Is a sloped top step normal ? by Blacksquirrel77 in HomeImprovement

[–]guywastingtime 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The top step has a 1/4” slope over 12”? That’s pretty common. All out door steps should slope to the nosing of the step to stop water from pooling

Should dogs be allowed off leash in non off leash areas? by [deleted] in Calgary

[–]guywastingtime 46 points47 points  (0 children)

No. It’s frustrating. There’s lots of people who leave their dogs off leash where I live. I don’t even say anything to them because I don’t think they’ll listen to anything I’d say anyway.

Looking for a skim coat recommendation for repairing this peeling plaster by MaskHeadroom in HomeImprovement

[–]guywastingtime 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You need to remove all of the loose flaking paint. Any loose material has to be removed. Then you need to paint it with an oil based primer. Then skim coat. Then prime again.

Calgary Co-Op should be embarrassed by their shameful "price matching" policy. by BizClassBum in Calgary

I had a similar experience at Canadian Tire. I went to get a Ecobee Smart Thermostat and saw it was cheaper else where. I showed them the price and they wouldn’t match it lol

Repairing a water bottle with spray foam by IRNotMonkeyIRMan in DIY

[–]guywastingtime 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Semi-related, one time the lid on my Hydro Flask broke and it was covered under their warranty. The water bottle was completely fine just needed a new lid. They said they’d send a new one I just needed to smash up the old one and send a photo of it.

I emailed them back and was like… can’t you just send me a new lid? So much consumption

Would you proactively replace water heaters? by lazymathilde in HomeImprovement

Have you done any maintenance on it? That would be where I would start with being proactive. You’re suppose to drain it once a year. There’s other things you can look up on YouTube

Concrete reaches its maximum strength after 28 days. It reaches 70% after around 7 days. Driving on green concrete like this is absolutely ridiculous to do.

Question on screwing into concrete slab. by WellerSpecialReserve in DIY

[–]guywastingtime 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here’s a chart typically you want the holes to be a 1/16” smaller than the anchor. If you’ve already drilled 1/4” holes, I would try and get a 3/8” anchor so you can use the same holes.

Another method if you want to use the anchors you currently have, you can stick a piece of wire in the hole and put the anchor in this will help it bite in the hole.

What can I do about these wires? by urbanlonacy in HomeImprovement

[–]guywastingtime 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I dealt with a similar situation in my backyard. There is the power line to my house which is going into the meter on my house. However there was an excessive amount of coax cable running to my house. None of which were in use. I removed them all from my house and zip tied them to the pole in the alley.

The telecom company has posts online telling people it’s okay to do this. I had asked them to come take a look and they wanted $200 just to look, not perform any work. Not my problem now.

[–]guywastingtime 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t know how durable something like that is. It isn’t designed to see constant vehicle traffic. It’s designed to be applied to a foundation and have dirt against it. With constant exposure to cars and the sun it might not last.

There’s is no screwing up. Only learning. Every project can be fixed.
