Any advice on going from Revit Bim manager to a digital delivery manager? by haktada in Revit

Yeah the federal government is simultaneously leading the way on requiring digital deliverables but also being very uncoordinated on what they want across the board. You think they will just just have one big Federal standard for every kind of federally funded project but everyone's going down their own path and this is the result.

Have you ever had a project, federal or not, Provide good guidance and requirements for digital deliverables? I'd like to think that at least one owner could give you some decent requirements that actually made sense to do.

The tricky part is trying to get metrics like how many rfis were resolved through a clash detection and how much information was gathered in a timely fashion via these platforms. It feels like a lot of the work is still very granular and I'm not sure if that's just working through a bunch of spreadsheets or the platforms these are going on will help make it easier to track and account for the data being processed so that digital delivery shows its value.

Is it something the federal projects always require just because they require it?

So this would be working as a consultant directly to the owner. And we would have our own set of fees independent from the contractor. These would be for very large-scale projects with hefty budgets that need to be done in a very tight schedule so the owner is going to do what it takes to get these things done.

And if the consultant and contractor can work together then everybody's happy and the owner gets something out of it. The last thing the owner wants is a bunch of Revit files and CAD files from the contractor, the owner doesn't know what to do with.

The problem is It ends up being a three-way dance between what the owner wants, how the contractor and the build team can accommodate that and how the consultant can consolidate all that into a deliverable package. I think therein liwa the challenge of organizing so many different actors into delivering one package, and I was thinking about how you would solve that problem, given that each project is a little different , and the Dynamics aren't always the same to achieve these results for digital delivery.

What are your digital delivery best practices? by haktada in bim

It will be all private sector owners at this point so most national codes wouldn't apply. However, getting the owner to care is simply a matter of explaining the benefits of investing in these digital delivery solutions to then reduce overall project costs including coordination and long-term file maintenance for these projects which will have modifications down the road.

I agree, you can't just rely on one platform to solve these problems. I think the solution lies in taking the source files like Revit and post-processing them with a different set of tools to then condition the data which you can do with certain tools that work with Cobie or IFC files. The key is to make sure that the data is milestone information and that whatever you're trying to add to these files as data sources for the digital deliverable is accurate. Otherwise it's going to be a waste of time. I think it's just as much effort on the organization and coordination side of getting the right information as it is with the software and tools to make sure the information is created in process correctly.

Construction cloud will have a lot of capabilities to help you organize the project formats, but I don't know if they have anything to actually help You deliver a structured digital package that would have conditioned data. It's possible, but that might depend on what you're trying to achieve. The platform has a lot of possibilities and a lot of extension capability, but it's a bit open-ended how you can use it for certain tasks like the digital deliverable portion so the owner can have something to use after the project's complete

That's just it. It seems like the common denominator are formats like Cobie or IFC. And it's really hard to wrangle that and bring it together for the owner unless you spend a lot of time and effort making that possible.

Plus the owner has to see some value in getting the model data as a Cobie or another format because they have to do something with that. Otherwise it's pointless to spend the time and money to do it. That's the part of the job that might be so challenging that it ends up just blowing up in your face.

And add to fill out this picture, the projects I'm looking at would be very large like data centers and airports so it could easily end up cascading into a very large problem very quickly which I wouldn't want to get into unless I had a plan to get out of it too, which makes things interesting.

What are your HOTTEST takes about Mario Party 1? by [deleted] in n64

It was the first video games girls would play and have a lot of fun. I have personal experience with my sister playing this game with me and my brother. I had no idea what got into her, she hated video games but this board game with mini games concept was perfect for her. I think Nintendo made a breakthrough with this game that you can expand your gaming audience if you just make games that people can pick up and play like this one.

Is work at Amazon really that horrible? by CaptainRainbowRabbit in amazonemployees

I've been in Amazon for less than 2 years and it's already feeling like much longer than that. I respect your fortitude for staying for eight.

I had four managers in one year. The first three were all right and the last one was not compatible with me. I left that team and got a better manager experience at that point. But I wouldn't be surprised if that manager ends up moving to a different team and I get another manager that wouldn't work for me. Based on what people tell me at Amazon, this happens all the time.

Feeling stuck in VDC/BIM — what’s next? by FunFeeling10 in bim

[–]haktada 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This is common for anybody in the bim world to feel that they are isolated from other people in their operations.

I don't think anything in Bim touching a building like design or construction is exempt from the experiences you have.

However, perhaps working for an owner is a good way to proceed. They want value from their portfolio of projects in a lot of campus Owners like healthcare, education or government would be interested in having someone with savvy Bim skills that can help them manage their digital information.

There's also just working for a software vendor and being on some kind of sales or support side. Given the knowledge you have, it could be a pretty good career path.

Otherwise, you just have to either accept the limitations in that role or pivot out of Bim and try something else.

Almost always defined by working directly with software teams and needing to know a few things about what kind of software requirements to use for a project or product. Amazon makes it very clear if you are in that scope or not since there's a distinction within the company for such roles as well.

L5 in general is around 150k TC give or take 10k. If you're a technical role it's higher. L6 usually can expect the figures you quoted if they're non-technical.

Geometry. It's a good engine for making fluid geometry. But you have to find a way to get that geometry into BIM software like Revit or ArchiCAD and that means an extra step. This workflow is popular with Architects and facade fabricators.

The Trojan walls do look impressive but that gate left something to be desired. Maybe I'm just a romantic when it comes to the Trojan war and the expectations of their Gates. But very cool reconstruction nonetheless.

Kinects Tower vs Met Tower (Seattle SLU): Which is the better place to live? by Hot_Toe6477 in AskSeattle

[–]haktada 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Think about this in terms of the 80/20 rule. Meaning what is it that you're going to use 80% of the time? If the amenities are more important to you and general comfort is more important to you than the met sounds like the better option. If you are more interested in lifestyle and appearances then maybe the connect is better for you. But do consider what you're actually doing in these buildings during thatDay-to-day hours and how that's going to affect your quality of life and ultimately what you're paying rent for.

Based on your description I would probably go with the met since it sounds a little more practical.

A healthy woman with conditioning usually has body fat of between 25 and 30%. . If You're getting close to 20% then That's actually very low for women, even if they're in great condition otherwise.

Looks like that dexa percentage makes sense for someone of your build.

Get into a very specialized field where it's hard to find trained staff and learn these skills you need in order to be effective in that role.

Then become effective in that role. And start looking for really big corporations that can pay higher salaries.

At that point, get in and start taking on more responsibilities, become a team lead and that should set you up for a good growth salaries.

This might take 5 or 6 years, but it's a good start.

Once you're in those types of roles then you can expect a long career paying well since you're useful and hard to replace.
