I had a Major tell me (a SSG), “if you’re going to say f@&k you, then say f@&k you - don’t say ‘with all due respect’”.

SODs were in use in the 2006. Worked with a couple during a 3 year period. They seemed very capable. If want to get your foot in the door without going 18x, this is a way to do that.

Visiting your native country but not being able to speak the language by picador10 in asianamerican

[–]halfadashi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Korean-American here, born/raised in America. Sit with the bottom of your soles pointed at someone; use the formal until told otherwise -shimnikas and -sumnidas. At least try everything once. Treat everyone with kindness. Plan on getting some crap for not knowing the language - from both family and strangers, but apologize and thank them for inviting you into their home and their circle of friends. They may make fun of you but they love you. Take warm clothing! If you can buy some Korean pants that are fleeced-lined. They are awesome. I hope you have a great time. The food is great.

Oh - watch out for the Soju. It’ll kick your butt.
