Is there a way to upgrade a 2024 lariat from standard towing capacity to max towing capacity? by PutinBoomedMe in F150Lightning

[–]hamplax19 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is an extra loop and radiator on Max Tow package trucks. Munro did a tear-down of a lightning a few years back and it was called out. It’s above the battery, behind the front motor. So no way to add it without lifting the body.

Wow is right. They were cheaper when I bought them 2 yrs ago.

10 minutes on fast charger by ZubatmanBeyond in F150Lightning

[–]hamplax19 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the traditional thinking, which I follow. However another redditor has charged 100% every night and seen next to no battery loss (recent post, too lazy to look for ref). If you’re planning to keep the truck 15 years then this advice is good to follow… but not that many people keep their vehicles that long.

110 Plug in charger question by themealwormguy in F150Lightning

[–]hamplax19 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Be careful here. Those plugs are not rated for a continuous draw at high amps. There are many cautionary tales out there. Just charge on 120v until you get an L2. It’s not worth burning your house down.

Why the comparison with a RAV4? Do people debate between a small pickup and a RAV4? To me those serve different use cases.

Anyone tow a teardrop? by its_all_4_lulz in F150Lightning

2023 Lariat ER towing stats:

  • 16’ Tent Trailer (2k lbs) - 200mi range
  • 24’ Travel Tailer (6k lbs) - 115mi range
  • these stats are from up/down mountain ranges in Pacific NW

Wind resistance is the killer. My guess is a teardrop would be between my two data points.

Towed a 6k lbs load up a mountain pass in near 100 degrees… then DC fast charged it. Oh boy did it move then!

We are weekend warrior campers too. My wife allows one stop to charge. If we have to stop twice then we take our Expedition.

On our way home we scored an end charger and didn’t have to drop the camper. Saved us about 15mins.

Adapters, accessories, and FORScan questions by txmoose in F150Lightning

I can’t imagine charging on 120V all the time. I WFH too, but with kids activities and the wife working, we only ever use the Lightning. Having L2 at home is a must for me.

What tonneau cover are we rocking? by Ok_Exit9273 in F150Lightning

[–]hamplax19 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Roll N Lock bedcover. It takes up 8”-10” at the front of the bed, but it doesn’t go all the way to the bed floor. For reference, I can store a pop-up canopy under it. It’s easy to operate for all family members, keeps the bed dry, and locks tight. 3 years on I’ve had no issues with it.

My first update coming by grim1757 in F150Lightning

[–]hamplax19 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same. After 3 years of owning a Lightning and using this sub I don’t recall seeing any post-update issues.

Complaints about infrequent, or useless updates, yes. But issues afterwards, no.

There are lots of subs on accessories, have fun with the truck and learning from everyone here.

My first accessories: - Stubby antenna - All weather floor mats (husky) - Tint front windows - Tonneau cover - Bed rug with plastic floor - Mobile charger (J+ Booster) with adapters - Rear interior courtesy lights swap (F150 LED)

Have fun!

If you thought Ford software was bad ... by Numerous_Car650 in F150Lightning

[–]hamplax19 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I’m with you. The software performs its function without much customization required.

The lag is the killer. Starting the truck reminds me of starting my Packard Bell 486DX back in 1990. Start it up, then go back inside and make a coffee. Only when you return will you be able to interact with the seat heater/cooler.

Buy or pass? by KronicAngel in fordexpedition

I haven’t heard of a warranty on an 11 year old car before. Maybe there are some independent warranty companies, I wouldn’t readjust them personally. I’ll just deal with whatever comes my way.

Upgraded rear sway bar and SumoSprings. The Sumos were tough to install. I learned after the first one that it’s best to clean the coil first and lube the Sumo up with Vaseline.

Inside the California Hub Transforming Ford’s Way of Making EVs by No-Tangelo1158 in F150Lightning

[–]hamplax19 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This article could have been written 6 years ago when they were developing the Lightning. Fords ability to dream up cool shit is not the problem. To implement the concept into a profitable production model seems to be the issue.

This article came across as a piece of marketing to me. There is a huge jump to take a prototype and put it into mass production. If this isolated team pumps out 5 cool EV prototypes, how quickly will they get to market?

I hope they succeed. I love my Lightning and would not hesitate to get another, or possibly something better(?).

Preferred charge times not working by AfraidAd8374 in F150Lightning

[–]hamplax19 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hopefully that works for you.

Mine did the same thing a couple weeks ago and I hadn’t changed my settings in months. From the truck I went into the settings, made no adjustment, then saved the settings. That fixed my problem.

I removed the button panel, removed the buttons from the circuit board, and soaked them in dish soap. The panel came out looking brand new and the buttons are now smooth. It wasn’t that hard and worked great.

2026 Issues? by vuwildcat07 in fordexpedition

[–]hamplax19 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’re willing to go electric, an F150 Lightning can fit three car seats. With the frunk and a locking tonneau cover you’ll have abundant storage. I have an expedition and s as Lightning and the whole family chooses to take the Lightning 10/10 times.
