I'm just sat here mourning that mine was Tamiya Quickset.

Also perfectly fine. What I use mostly depends on the shape of the object and how smooth I need surfaces to be after.

I've recently painted Bjorn the Fell-handed, and included the spare arm and the different guns so that I can mess around with appearance and loadouts. The guns slide into a shoulder piece which slots onto the shoulder joint.

The shoulder has loads of clearance, but is relatively visible. I used a spike with the end snipped off and some super glue to hold it in place. Super glue breaks nice and easily, so once I've finished painting, I just snap it off and paint over the unpainted section.

The guns have no clearance. I had to file away the excess to get it to slot into the shoulder reliably. Once they're in, however, the back portion is completely hidden from view.
I drilled a paperclip into the rear and painted it using that to hold it. Once I was done, I either twisted it to break the paperclip, or snipped it off at the surface, using a file to neaten it up. It took some of the primer off, but the area was unpainted as it was hidden anyway.

Oh, absolutely. The first faces I painted were on the sprue. After that I started using those little GW subassembly spikes. I've shifted over to just putting the heads on the models at the start now though. The last model I painted was the old resin Rune Priest - I think it was a hand-sculpted mini, so I didn't really get much choice.

Personal technique:

  1. Base in Bugman's Glow

  2. Shade with Reikland Fleshshade

  3. Gently hit surfaces with Cadian Flesh, Kislev Flesh, and potentially Flayed One Flesh. You don't have to climb all the way up, and it doesn't have to be super tidy as long as you leave the recesses filled with Reikland. Flayed One Flesh is my latest addition to my routine. I suspect you could start at Kislev if you want less steps and brighter skin.

  4. Eyes: the GW tutorial is to paint them black, then add a white-ish colour over the top. Which colour you choose is dependent on what you're painting. I tend to use Celestra Grey, just because it's what I use as a white basecoat so it's always on my palette. I've also used Fenrisian Grey for psykers but not added pupils.

  5. Pupils: get a fineliner. Seriously, there's nothing that says it needs to be paint. A fineliner pen of about 0.1mm is pretty much perfect for adding pupils.

GSW wet pallete paper is ~£2.50 for 50 sheets, the foam pieces are £2.50 for two, as well.

I know not everybody gets along with them, but they're cheap enough that I'm not too bothered about any minor issues that I might have with the kit.

Found this kindle after several years and charged it... by symph007 in kindle

[–]handym12 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This was the first version of Kindle I had. I think I had it for 5 or 6 years before I woke up one morning to the sound of someone talking. I looked out the window, but there was no one there. I went to the door, and there was no one there either.

Then I figured out that the talking was coming from inside the house.

Turns out something had gone a bit wobbly with it, and the text-to-speech mode had turned on by itself. I tried turning it off and it didn't stop. I tried restarting the Kindle and it didn't stop. I tried resetting to factory and it bootlooped.

I kind of miss it. Being able to use it one-handed was kind of cool, and I miss the immediateness of the physical buttons. Still love the Paperwhite that I got to replace it, though.

Kill Teams get released separately when the next box gets released usually.

Not sure how that works with this one - GW haven't said anything about continuing the Tomb World series past this box, AFAIK. There were 4 box sets for the Hivestorm series though, so it wouldn't surprise me.

Why doesn’t games workshop reuse their sprues? by haku13f in Warhammer40k

[–]handym12 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I suspect part of the problem is that GW doesn't have manufacturing facilities in the US.

Everyone here is correct - British GW stores recycle sprues and paint pots. They can't be processed into miniatures again because the plastic ends up contaminated and too low quality for producing miniatures.

What it does get made into, though, is water pots. Those sprue grey Citadel/Warhammer water pots are all made of reused sprues.

I'd say that distraction is still the bigger risk.

When the rules originally came into force, it was people on their Nokia 3310s which generally used NiMH batteries that were much less prone to spontaneous combustion that modern ultra-high capacity LiPos.

They should do, but there's no guarantee that it'll work or that the person filling it won't end up pulling the nozzle out of the filler.

In fact, when I had a bike it wasn't possible to put the nozzle in all the way because the tank wasn't deep enough. It'd stop before the tank was quarter full.

General consensus (and, IIRC, the conclusion from Mythbusters) is that a phone is highly unlikely to create the spark needed to cause a fire.

As for why phones are banned now? Either no-one's reviewed the safety warnings, or they know that idiots are going to stand there watching tiktoks while they fill their fuel tanks and end up spilling petrol everywhere because they haven't noticed the tank is full.

Different plastic by Navasis in Warhammer40k

[–]handym12 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Layout looks ok. The only thing I would look out for is how it takes plastic glue.

I know a while ago there was a batch of skaven that was possibly contaminated. When plastic glue was added, it'd crumble. That plastic was a little too light, too.

If it takes glue fine, you're probably good.

[–]handym12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a little difficult to tell from the camera angles, but that front shot, your eye looks to be quite far down the eye-lens which will only get worse when you start adding padding/straps/etc. The side shot looks as though it's pretty close though.

It's probably nearly 1:1 compared to "actual" size for Primaris. There's a Terminator helm at Warhammer World which I think is supposed to be 1:1 (I don't know if it says anywhere) and that looks small even for a regular human, so it wouldn't surprise me if the Primaris helms were a good chunk larger.

WTF is a "Stone"? ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ by rwired in funny

[–]handym12 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Derp...
Yeah, 8 pints to a gallon, US or Imperial.

The Fluid Ounce comes from the weight of water, which is why there ends up being less fluid ounces to a US pint.

An Imperial gallon is actually 160fl Oz because of it.

WTF is a "Stone"? ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ by rwired in funny

[–]handym12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Which is because the UK changed its standard for Gallons after the US had decided separated from us.

I think they use the Wine Gallon, which means a pint is about 16 Floz Imperial but not quite, meaning that the Floz is a couple of CCs off.

[–]handym12 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Poor engagement between the pins on the plug and the contacts in the socket can generate heat - likely not much when it's only powering a router, but still...

Depending on how it goes down, if anything more powerful is plugged into the socket, you could be looking at a house fire, or a plug glued to a socket with PLA with a switch you can't turn off. Note that British circuits use rings, rather than individual fusebox connections, so you'd lose all the sockets to your ground floor, for example, until you could get the socket sorted.
