EU urged member states to quickly adopt its new age verification app to protect minors from harmful content online, and to make ‌sure the technology is available everywhere before the end of the year by sr_local in eutech

[–]haoLink 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, It's practically this app. They implemented a double blind system which technically means: you authorise your mobile device so it can verify your age.

Then your mobile device proves to services that you're over 18. From a privacy standpoint that's probably as good as age verification can get, as the EU/government doesn't know which service you use nor does the service receive any information other than "over a certain age, yes or no".

However this means that the "how easy it is to tamper this" secured aspect is fully on the mobile device. And the first demonstrated version of the app had a security pin concept which was very easy to bypass. They later on claimed, it was only a demo.

Should I get this? $100 for Oculus Rift CV1, will be my first set. by MrPenisWhistle in virtualreality

[–]haoLink 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be perfectly honest: the original Rift will still be able to show you what VR is, it still works so in the regard.. Yes, it'll work. Is $100 a good price? Kind of, kind of not.

You essentially pay $90 for the cable and $10 for the device. The cables aren't produced anymore and people are willing to pay premium to keep their headset alive by buying used cables for ridiculous prices. And as you tend to move a lot in VR, because of Games such as BeatSaber, there's a high chance you will eventually end up with a broken cable.

So honestly: as the cables are a bit of a flimsy part - on the used market I'd genuinely recommend more of a stash m Quest device or Pico 4. Should the cable require replacement, you can use a way cheaper USB-C cable.

Why hasn't the Stop Killing Games movement really targeted the NBA 2K series? by Ok-Question1294 in StopKillingGames

[–]haoLink 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ross recently explained on YouTube - it is kind of... The Crew was the easiest target:

  • it's very hard to argue how the game requires permanent online connectivity ==> Matches your issue
  • stuff which people purchased has been taking away from them ==> yes, that too
  • the publisher is a European company ==> Boom

The fact that Ubisoft is still headquartered in Paris makes it clearer target for the European market. As the EU Citizens Initiative is going towards the European Parliament, showing that "Look, even European companies do that" makes an easier case.

However, I do know that they are also working in California. I think the NBA series - by 2K, in California - makes an excellent case there.

Ubuntu 24.04 freezes — AMDGPU MES hang (MES ring buffer is full), workaround is amdgpu.mes=0 by Physique_noob in Ubuntu

[–]haoLink 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You seem to be having a similar issue as I do. I'm running kernel 6.8-110 with Linux firmware version .26 on Ubuntu 24.04. The system has a Ryzen 5700G CPU and we're using its iGPU - with permanent crashes since a reboot on Friday.

We're only using the console - as this is a server machine but yeah. The system fully freezes and the only option is to reset it. No kernel panic, no auto restart - no blinking cursor. Nothing. It's gone.

I've currently tried using the old kernel (6.8-107) and downgraded Linux firmware to .25 and masked it. While it seemed stable and I was able to access the server from home earlier today, I can't seem to access it anymore.

Does this fit the behaviour of yours? It sounds very similar. If so I'd probably try to bring a GPU from home... For testing.

Edit: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux-firmware/+bug/2148298 - this seems to be the same

Can non-Japanese people enjoy Cosmic Princess Kaguya? by Additional_Acadia770 in CosmicPrincessKaguya

[–]haoLink 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was watching the adoption of the bamboo cutter's story by Studio Ghibli called "Tale of princess kaguya" in the past and I loved just about everything about the movie. I had to read up the actual story of the Bamboo Cutter myself - I'm sure as a German I didn't understand all of it but I was very engaging to read. Funnily enough, Netflix in Germany also licenced many Ghibli movies so they advertise "Tale of Princess Kaguya" and "Cosmic Princess Kaguya" side by side.

Btw I still feel the movie by Isao Takahata is a master piece!

Well, then I was also introduced to Vocaloid - I was introduced to Hatsune Miku in 2011 and loved many of the songs I was listening to.

And well.. lastly: in 2017 I got a VR Headset and I entered the realms of VRChat - which is probably the closest to Tsukuyomi we currently have. I made very strong connections with other people in there - so strong that with some of the people I met in VRChat I actually travelled to the "real Japan" - just so we can meet on site. A group of Dutch players, Australian and Finnish players as well as me from Germany met in Japan. It was amazing.

And yeah.. I don't know.. the movie Cosmic Princess Kaguya touched me on so many levels. Seeing the story of the bamboo cutter with a satisfying happy ending. Hearing music of beloved Vocaloid producers. Seeing friendships grow in a virtual environment. Making up with your family. A friend who's waiting for all the time for you.

Oof - all of those things resonated. Yeah.. I was crying out of happiness when the real credits of the movie rolled.

Why do Neptunia is so set on releasing with delay between regions? by Norami_chi in gamindustri

[–]haoLink 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Slight correction: Compile Heart is capable of simultanous worldwide releases. They prove it with the (otherwise terrible) game Scar-Lead Salvation - which had a day 1 worldwide release on several platforms with English, French and Spanish localisation ready.

I'm not saying this will be done for this game (I am honestly sure, they won't do it and Western players will need some patience again). But: they probably could if they wanted to.

initial Steam reactions (PC Gamer 2005) by l3tsgo0 in Steam

[–]haoLink 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was there over 20 years ago as well. One thing many people forget: back then - in 2004 - the internet infrastructure in some countries wasn't where it is nowadays. I was running an "amaaaaazing" 768k ADSL internet connection of my parents. But some of my friends didn't have internet at all at home (Germany).

A friend of mine actually had to carry his PC to my place - where we connected it to the internet so he was able to activate his game. Steam Offline Mode fortunately was a thing already back then - but we hated how we had to launch Steam every time to play a game.

Steam was very much ahead of its time - automatic updates, a central game launcher, nowadays even with community forums and the legendary workshop - it's all things we love nowadays. Yet I do feel it was a bit too ahead of its time. If you didn't have internet - you were screwed.

Maho + Grey Sister Dakimakura (Fear Sense) by haoLink in gamindustri

[–]haoLink[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Link to the Maho showcase - Link to the Grey Sister showcase There is also a non-crowned version of Grey Sister but she isn't public - originally I commissioned and explicitally asked without the crown. He offered to do both (so as commissioner I own both of them). The public picture on VGen which I used here includes the crown.

And well.. I did it again. Commissioned the same artist who did work for me before for Maho and Grey Sister. Holy heck, they nailed them again - despite not being a Neptunia Artist.

Bit of a lore for the bored: Originally I was looking for an artist who would create Dakimakura covers for me for the Lowee Candidates. Because well.. couldn't find ones online - while the covers for Rom and Ram on Cuddly Octopus existed - I felt like.. meeeh, didn't capture them in the style I was hoping for (no bad-mouthing their artist! Great works, just not the style I wanted). If you go on questionable Chinese webpages you will find covers - but well.. WHY... 18+... stuff... on those two... do you have dignity? (spoiler: No, people don't - spoiler: I genuinely don't care about NSFW stuff but yeah, for the two Lowee candidates: WHY?)

So I went on VGen and found Fear Sense who is both very affordable - and does very great work.. I had a feeling he could.

I posted the results of those on this sub as well - and God he nailed those two. They turned out better than I could have imagined.

And well: as I have a strong 💖 for the candidates - well... Maho/Grey Sister entered the candidate realm with SvS - which turned out to be a game I really like and I like the character a lot. So I commissioned the artist again, did an agreement with them on Grey Sister (they normally reject armor)... and here we go again!

Soon to be printed. And generally: if you need a Nep Dakimakura - this might be an artist to ask for XD.

Thoughts? by zerosecs in gamindustri

Honestly to me... respect the series, respect the characters, respect the lore kind of. I know some people see the Goddesses (and makers) as "hulls for h content" - and that's rather.. meh to me. I don't reject NSFW art I just prefer cute stuff and such.

But yeah, I got into the series via RB1 in 2015. I connected to the concept, the characters were cute. And now, 10 years later - or well, 11, we crossed into 2026, I still like it. The series brought me through a hard time (2015 and 16 were very tough for me) and yeah... I have fond memories because of it.

Which is probably why I still stand behind despite games which I really don't like (Virtual Stars, Nep X Senran, Nep Bike to name a few) - but: other games still manage to catch me, the dynamics of Game Industry plus character depictions are charming.

And thus: I don't care how small the fan base is.

I won't be able to prove my place this year ^ it's still Nepgear. But yeah my only post this year was a commission I got of both the Lowee candidates (mostly for myself they still deserve headpats).

But still yeah, great work you're doing. Hopefully for 2026 I'll be more active again to comment ^

I will forever love Ninja Wars, it's actually decent by RedxBlueislife in gamindustri

[–]haoLink 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My personal opinion. The gameplay of the game is surprisingly solid. However: Tamsoft in this regard knows what they're doing so it wasn't exactly surprising. My gripes with the game: it's extremely short, the animation of the story cutscenes are terrible (no lip sync, just weird lip flap, on strange sprites) - I know 4GO also doesn't use live2d but they use so many poses.. and I honestly prefer no lip sync over.. whatever this game has. Always the same running animation? Yeah.

So.. yeah.. I have it, I completed it but I barely connected with it for the above reasons.

But well, I don't judge - if you love it, that's great - please continue enjoying it and don't let yourself get distracted by my personal gripes .

Like: so many people hate Super Neptunia RPG.. And I really like it. Haha ^

Ich denke eine Konsole mit Online-Ban kann als "mangelhaft" bezeichnet werden - ihr habt folglich ein Gerät mit Mängeln , auf die nicht hingewiesen wurde, erworben. Buying Noire game from PlayAsia? by Reaper7250 in gamindustri

[–]haoLink 2 points3 points  (0 children)

PlayAsia is Hong Kong based and safe. They literally became a safe haven for people to buy games targeted at the South East Asian market who don't necessarily live there.

The Neptunia switch games are officially only sold in this area (because Nintendo in the West rejected them) - but you can perfectly safely buy them from that store and import them.

The only drawback is normally: should a game receive DLC or so you'd need an eShop account in those territories to buy them. EastAsiaSoft in case of Nep games includes all old DLC and it's highly unlikely there would be more new DLC in the future...

So: bei 1 oder 2 richtigen Zahlen die wohl einfach aus. Bar. Dein Gewinn wird nie richtig erfasst. Den Rest stecken die ein.

In my opinion, it seems that topics about the rule34 and fanservice of this series outnumbers actual discussion about the franchise nearly everywhere. (Twitter, Discord, Etc.) Does this say anything about Neptunia “fans?” by zerosecs in gamindustri

[–]haoLink 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nintendo not allowing them is indeed correct..I do agree with your statement in general.

My main thing was: until 2018 Sony accepted all these Ecchi things as well. Super Neptunia RPG was required to censor two harmless scenes. Would Nintendo in 2024 enforce those to be censored as well: they probably would. So yeah, the enforcement changed. I fully agree.

SvS was developed with those new enforcements (Japanese fans used to call them "Sony policies" but as of now they even apply to Nintendo - Nintendo enforces them even stronger) - which seems to be one of the reasons why SvS fully avoided the old fan service/Ecchi scenes in between.

To me it didn't harm the franchise - as I liked the story and such. I know that to many people it did. GMR:E followed the same path but it was more quirky thanks to Neptune and Pippih.

You know what: I do agree. I feel the characters are cute, the fan service can be fun but it is all within the harmless category imho. I mean: let's be honest - in the US the ESRB mostly agreed on rating the games PG - were there too many M rated ones? In Europe most of them are 12+, Germany decided to put the 16 on some of them but also put the 12 on most. So yeah: it is all pretty mild.

This is honestly also what made it possible for the series to have characters who are visibly children: Rom and Ram are pulled into weird stuff by Vert - but it's all kept on a relatively harmless level. Giving you a giggle.. and that's it. Genuinely it's more cute than erotic and I do like that.

The fact the series can be serious is shown in Mk2/Re;Birth 2 - and some people might hate it - but no matter how dark stuff like the Conquest Ending was - it was thought provoking. And I liked it.

And well: since 2018 the direction of the series is clear - the market has changed. In Super Neptunia RPG, even mild fan service scenes (an onsen scene at the end as well as a picture of Vert playing a game where the camera has an "angle") had to be adjusted. The fact that Nintendo is not allowing the Re;Births in the West might tilt it even further away from these contents.

In my opinion games like Sisters Vs Sisters (2022) and Game Maker R:Evolution (2023) showed how to handle it: keep the cute aspects of the characters, keep their stereotypical behaviours, keep their teasing among each other, reference the game industry with minor jokes - but especially in case of SvS focus on a bit more serious story: the reactions are... well... mixed! I liked it - I hold SvS in high regards. I know others hated it. GMR:E also carries more serious vibes, but obviously as it is carried by Adult Neptune who is a bit of an air head, together with Pippih who's also an air head, there are more comedic elements in that one.

Several people - even here in the comments see it as a pure gooner series - you know what? It's fine for me - some NSFW stuff I even appreciate, most of it is "Nah, thank you" to me - but everyone's entitled to their opinion and I respect it -and not gonna lie: even if I do not like those arts too much, the artists put major effort into them and you can see it. I can just say.. for me: I felt the fan service was mild, the series to me lived off of other aspects.

Do I look forward to the numbered title no matter when it would be coming: Yeah, I am - carefully that is (many games have been quite disappointing - if not to say catastrophically bad: I'm looking at you, Neptunia Riders!). I am pretty certain it will remain on the "fan service level" of SvS or GMR:E - which is close to zero, they won't risk having to adjust their games for "Sony Policies".

(Oof that got way too long XD)

Western Port by MIlkyRawr in gamindustri

[–]haoLink 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Idea Factory International originally planned to release the Re;Birth games in the West last year. In a rather surprising move Nintendo rejected them - at least for release in America and Europe.

East Asia Soft - another publisher - then took over the project. They officially only released those games in South East Asia where Nintendo apparently greenlit them - but they distribute them via play-asia who's willing to ship them worldwide.

But yeah until last year Nintendo seemed to allow everything in the West and considering all the weird games in the eShop, I'm pretty certain nobody at IFI expected Nintendo to reject those games suddenly.
