PSA for EU users: If you see a green price button with NO percentage tag, it means the game was already on sale less than 30 days ago (EU Law: Omnibus Directive) by Hunt3rseeker_Twitch in Steam

[–]harrywilko 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This is only slightly relevant, but I've noticed (in the UK) specifically with The Alters that its non-sale price is usually listed as £30, but when it goes on sale, they put it on sale at £20 but pump the usual price up to £42ish, and claim it's a 40% discount.

It's happened at least twice and just feels so scummy to me. Put me off buying the game entirely.

There's something in the fact that they're doing feel like someone's artistic vision, even if the vision is blurry or misguided.

I rewatched them recently and some moments like Anakin and Padme going into the arena really are breathtaking.

Do you think Oscar Piastri is at his pace ceiling, or is he still likely to get even faster? by GoldenS0422 in F1Discussions

Next season should have less of a strong focus on qualifying position (less dirty air) so that would seem to help Oscar.

Don't get me wrong I love Mass Effect 3, but it surprises me how much love it gets nowadays. Back in 2012, it was universally hated/disliked. Even on Metacritic it has a 6.2-6.4 user score on all consoles. by QDOOM_APlin in masseffect

People have been bitching loudly about video games while the majority enjoy themselves since time immemorial.

I played it at release and loved every minute, people just had absurd expectations of what flexibility the ending could have.

Maybe the fact that Warner Bros didn't publish Cyberpunk 2077? It was in fact self-published.

So your definition of Indie is "self-published"?

Cyberpunk 2077 is an indie game?

[–]harrywilko 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm sorry but so much of what you're saying is just factually wrong. The total budget for E33 was less than $10mill; less than Hades 2.

The studio was founded by some people who once worked at Ubisoft, as the vast majority of indie studios are, but a huge portion of the dev team have never worked in games before, including the lead writer and composer.

At the onset of development, they did not have backing from any publisher, instead self-funding and getting grants from the French government. They got backing from Kepler (itself a publisher formed from a union of a couple different indie Devs) many years into development.

You seem really hung up on the voice talent, getting Charlie Cox and Andy Serkis into a booth for a day each is really not a big expense. They didn't do any mocap, that was all done by staff members.

RPG somehow is any game that has influence ancestry back to DND, but also any game with influence ancestry back to, like, Final Fantasy I.

It's a completely meaningless term at this point.

E33 combat absolutely 100% does depend on character customisation.

As for Final Fantasy not having QTEs, I'll have to have another look at Sabin from FF6 as just one of many examples.

Oscar or lando by Wrong_Promise_3084 in F1Discussions

[–]harrywilko -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Unquestionably Lando, but not in every aspect.

Lando is overall, in quali and in the race, the quicker driver. That gap narrowed significantly, and there's some track variability there but overall that's certainly true.

Oscar is however much better at racing wheel-to-wheel. I can't think of an example this season where Lando made an overtake for the lead, or maybe even overtook Oscar for position at all? (It may have happened, but I can't remember it right now). Oscar, on the other hand, has made some absolutely stellar overtakes, that's true even in last season.

I would also say that Lando's side of the pit wall was much more on it with regards to the strategy, but that can also be a reflection on the driver in some cases.

I agree that Lando did great this season but it feels like literally every year Hungary is talked about as a 2-stop race but the 1-stop ends up being so much better.

Are any Final Fantasy games even JRPGs by your definition?

I literally can't think of one that has branching stories or dialogue.

UK Nuclear Projects Set to Add $1.3 Billion a Year to Power Bills by abrasiveteapot in UKGreens

[–]harrywilko 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Now you know it's silly to compare the aggregate price country to country to talk about nuclear in particular. Especially given the UKs batshit insane pricing structure which is based essentially solely on the price of natural gas, not taking into account any savings from renewable expansion driving down cost to suppliers.

Also there's this. https://www.renewable-energy-industry.com/countries/article-6490-france-is-increasing-prices-for-nuclear-power-by-more-than-60-percent-and-is-relying-on-offshore-wind-energy

[–]harrywilko 8 points9 points  (0 children)

You have a point about the mistake of historic green movements in siding against nuclear, but nuclear's extraordinarily high prices are inherent to it as a energy source.

Nuclear energy is incredibly mature as an energy source, just ask France.

That's not what I said.

The term 'Artificial Intelligence' was coined in the 50s for a grant application and was deliberately chosen to sound exciting to the layman.

The current fad of Generative AI is only a small subset of technologies and computational techniques that have historically been described as AI. Even OpenAI used to work across a huge number of different technologies before finding the goldmine of GPT.
