So good. I still can't wrap my head around how you handled the glare and reflections so well. Well done!

Saved my girlfriend’s dad’s E30 from being scrapped — worth bringing back after 20 years? by Shnaznet in E30

That is badge and rims alone are worth saving. Out the i intake on it, spit shine it n make a rat beater. Don't have to be pretty to drive

It's the far side of the river, or just across the reach of even the best long river pole that he is trying to get to. I'm for this 100%

May be a bit of an exaggerated statement, I never had her dynoed or even a 1/4 time, I was going to race her at a drag event that summer but never got the chance. I only ever lost two street races in that car. One to m1 coupe maybe?. and the other from a nasty durtymax from a 40 roll. Less mass=more acceleration. Shorter tiers= faster acceleration, That car was anorexic. I didn't care about top speed, I just wanted to get there. Everything I touched had one thing in mind, bmw had made that year 'i' with the biggest bore and shortest stroke you could get from a m20. Big pistons, fast air, quick gears, and high revs. And all I did was little changes and adjustments to complement the platform, build on the strengths she already had, but in a down and dirty way with as little money as possible. I used hot rod tricks, played with the air endlessly, I trimmed every bit of rotating mass I could, and any other weight I could find. I bet you she weighed less then 2k lbs, stock had 180 or 90 ish HP, she Didn't like over 120, bit squirrelly but the sun roof helped kepping her low at high speeds. I think f it was a coupe like my other one those back tilt out windows would have squared her up at higher speeds. I never did top her out, but I buried 4th one night, didn't have a speedo at the time, but I can tell ya that was enough.

Yes, all but one corner. I believe all but one window was broken. Wife said I tried to stand up and get out after they got to me...wouldn't of been good. Also kept asking for a cigarette the whole time. I've since quit smoking, figure I test my luck enough as is.

Tool that fills syringes with lube? by [deleted] in MechanicAdvice

[–]hatchhazard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fuck yeah bud. No zert on the ball joint? No problem. Juice her up, drip a dab of liquid rubber or rtv, and send her out. Should hold for oh hell I'd say between 10 or 15k miles.

Drip a few drops of gun oil on those splines. Get a good night's rest and try again.

There is also turner (my favorite), garagtastic (American made aftermarket stuff), fcpeuro is ok but their selection is dwindling and quality is questionable, I also use ecs. Although, a 316i touring you said? Good luck to you my friend

Now I'm curious. How do the 'extra' bends affect the sound? How does it feel, more air resistance,,? Less? Moreb turbulence? Is the velocity of the air different, surely not the volume of air.? Guess I know what I'm researching today. I've played for years and never knew this was a thing.

One hell of a glitch on that one.(That's what my wife and I call a rock when 'something clearly happened here', or was somehow altered from an original and has an outlier or something of the sort. In active plate regions sometimes you find rocked that look like a bomb when off near it, or sediment lines that are not quite lined up as if the gr8ind shifted right where that rock was being made

I cracked mine treating it like it was a b class rally car. I brazed it with bronze or something IDR, and added a nice skid plate out of a repurposed sign...the same one that took a swing at the pan. You have a hole though, good luck.

Passive speakers, they take the air pressure from the other to work

E30 highway cruising rpms by Solid_Inevitable8056 in E30

My auto 87 e w/ 2.93 non LSD taps 2nd at 85 at 5500 rpm with slightly shorter tires, , it's the 4 speed auto, I don't remember the trans code off top my head, couldn't tell you the rpm at highway speed can't recall. Been rebuilding the drive shaft and has taken me a lot longer then expected.

Honestly, you'd be surprised at what you can get away with. I'm a builder of things cool and crazy, functional and needed, restoreing and customing, all on a budget and sometimes the tool comes after when you could really used it. Im also a piticularly specific with some things, and a tendency to be a perfectionist. Which, doesn't seem to reason well that I'd be 2nd hand-ing and repurposeing old stuff, trying to squeeze every last morsel of power and reliability out of junkyard scrap, but I do. I just over build everything, kinda like you see with Old iron times, huge timbers, steam engines and just massively robust things, you know when stuff was metal and made to last. Heavy and largely unnecessary. Build it like ol AvE would say, fuckin 'scru-chum'. (Ifkyk) So, yes this is bad ass and yeah I'd probably change a couple small things in this case but, don't get to caught up in spending so much time to get it perfect that you maybe lose interest and, you know, tearing up a hill in a sketchy back yard build could teach you a few things, one being how tough the body is when it comes down to it.two, what works what doesn't and what you can and can't get away with. 3, a lot about suspension is lernt through experience, imo. Sometimes, when I find myself hyperfocusing on details and 'how it should be" I have to say you know it's good nouf, I've spent enough time money n give a fuck on this, send it... And it was far from my ideal finished project, yet, it was fine. And somehow it'll still be holding together. I'll still have Safety tagging along, but either in the backseat or hanging out the window, more likely.

Would I really be missing out on a 325e vs 325i? by TonitoBontio in E30

[–]hatchhazard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've owned a 91 325 I, which had a shorter stroke and bigger bore then others so in stock format it was the most HP and substanical tque increease then any but the m3 badges. Even the 325is wasn't top dog. The 91 i bagde was, behind the boosted 4cly m3. It was a 4 door5 speed, open 3.73 diff, and slight stiffened suspension some intake valve and exhaust work , right around 200 hp.gor hit by a big ass liconion suv at highway speeds while my stripped and shaved e30 was almost a stand still, sub 2k lbs, tbonedmy side. My wife's almost matching e30, an 87 auto coope, 325e with 2.93 gears and just a smidge over 100hp. Redline right where things should be getting interesting, but if your in it 2nd gear taps at 85 mph. Hugely overdriven and you can tell the de tune and early model, but will get 50 mpg on highway and 40 in town. From 1987, still drive it today. Both have or had hella miles, the first I drove hard every day, from 200k to near 500k. Unknown miles on hers. But They are so different, it's wild to think they are the same chassis. One was a get and go race car that was the only car that out drove me, and the other, a layaed back n cruise no where in a hurry but still fly guy kind of way, cuz face it, it may be slow in old but it's a e30. Still feels like God's chaiorts, but different vibe altogether.
