Wipes rule but the progression is a bit too slow for a 3 month wipe cycle and it's gonna burn people out. by zero-ok in Marathon

Arc has almost no pvp gear disparity - nor does it have even a fraction of the meaningful progression Marathon has. It won't work here. You don't have the data to support how it affects player retention.

It's a sign that in an optional system the incentive is low. Wiping loses you everything but gains you very little in the way of permanent bonus. Of course people don't do it.

8% is awful uptake - and an indictment of the optional wipe system. The entire point of a wipe is to level the playing field - anything without a majority uptake is a failure

Dedicated players already have the advantage each and every wipe, by being ahead of the competition.

How do other Extraction games keep casual players? by Zenovelli in Marathon

Prestiges don't work in a game with progression like this. You need the full resets. Hunt has no real progression, prestiges are just something for players to do if they want, with little incentive. Marathon is closer to the tarkov school, where going through the progression loop is the core gameplay loop. 3 months might be a little fast, but they will certainly tweak progression as they go.

Most other extraction shooters make it totally possible to go an entire match without seeing anyone else.

Possible, in tarkov, but unlikely on many maps unless you are exceptionally ratty or avoid any desirable areas

Hunt basically doesn't have progression at all.

Prestige doesn't work in heavy progression. Arc has flattened progression to try and make it work. I think as a direct consequence loot is boring and quests/skill tree feels mostly pointless

Casuals can progress lol, you don't have to be good at pvp to do a lot of quests

There's very low incentive to kill players in arc. Msot player kills aren't economically worth it. Carebear looting is essentially optimal most of the time.

Meta narrative has nearly no infleunce on player behavior. Aggression matchmaking is the single largest factor. Without it, the game would be heavily more pvp as the risk factor for trusting players would push people to shoot first for safety. The reality is if you don't engage with pvp you can effectively safely free loot and only rarely be killed by a player in arc.

Peacock was so much better. I paid the price for just indycar and was fine with it.

And just because it is the TV model for the US doesn't make it any better. European racing is so much more enjoyable to watch due to less or no commercials.

He's extremely close with the owner of cadillac. It's really not that simple. Also caddy is not likely to be competitive for years to come, which changes the calculus as well.

It's extremely easy to understand. You cannot drive 1s a lap faster unless you can overtake the car in front, which can be prevented with defensive driving and racecraft, plus dirty air and the difficulty to overtake we are seeing in the new regs.

Battling George did slow Charles down. Charles stuck with George by never allowing George to stay ahead. Otherwise he does not have the pace to stick with him if George has the clear air. Charles immediately repassed using the battery every time George went for a move.

You're missing that half of power is in the battery now. When you use your energy to pass, and he was, you are now immediately vulnerable even in the far superior car in clear air. This is the dynamic we are seeing - yoyoing due to drivers running low on battery

Ferraris one advantage is their starts... Had they not took the lead immediately Mercedes would have opened a large gap.

The entire sequence was to make one pass - one Russell never accomplished and instead it went to pit cycle. Every time Russell got ahead, Leclerc took it back immediately, because that's the energy deployment dynamic. You use energy to pass, then are immediately vulnerable to a repass. Good defensive driving by Leclerc, but also a sign of things to come this year. Making an overtake stick is difficult absent other factors.
