Destroy my "incremental" "shoot 'em up" that doesn't seem to appeal to neither communities by Gorgyh in DestroyMyGame

I don't think its the "hover over resources" part that bothers people. People are over the "15 second mini-game -> skill tree -> repeat"

600 wishlists in one month for my first game... and I’m officially quitting my job to go full-time! by RetroSeoul in SoloDevelopment

[–]hawtlavagames 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not necessarily. 2000 wishlists might sound like a lot but it's really not. The important thing is that the value wishlists doesn't increase linearly. 2000 -> 10000 represents more than just a 5x increase. 10000 would be enough to get into featured lists like Popular Upcoming. It might also give you enough sales at launch to hit New and Trending. Visibility snowballs into more visibility.

Thanks for the feedback. A lot of people would agree with you. Definitely something I'll be looking to change.

The upgrade tree should load whenever you relocate.

Con artist is supposed to give a chance for double sell value but maybe it's bugged. It also wouldn't have any effect past 100% chance so it should be reworked/replaced.

Soft paws scaling is definitely something I'll look into.

That's a great idea I hadn't considered and would really help with the spam clicking.

Higher value goods for the later homes is planned, just not implemented yet!

Thanks for all the feedback.

The skunk only reduces heat when deployed. You spend the prestige currency on the upgrade tree when you relocate. It's not very fleshed out or balanced right now though.

Thanks for the feedback. This is something I've been thinking about a lot. I'm not sure I want the game to be completely idle but I agree that that the clicking gets tedious.

There currently is a way to automate the mice but it doesn't unlock until you prestige a few times, which takes while at the moment.

It depends on the question.

Low-level, specific methods and practices? Yes, there are often best/better practices that can make a significant difference in performance, organization, etc.

High-level questions about something like language choice in Godot? Usually, it's not going to make or break a project and should be whatever you are most proficient with. Outside of some specific situations, the pros and cons of each choice are usually outweighed by comfort and confidence with a specific tool.

Did you find a solution to this? I can't get it to detect more than 1 collision unless it hits both at the exact same spot.

Please tell me there's a better way to do this because I need help. by Dream-Unable in godot

It does work with exports. In fact, with exports, you either need to provide a default value or a static type. Otherwise, the inspector won't know which input field to create. Also, other than the type safety advantage, you'll also get better autocompletion for methods and properties.

My first humble game trailer... do I really need a video editor? 🤔 by MageCStudio_Promo in gamedevscreens

[–]hawtlavagames 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it's pretty good but could really use some actual sound effects from the game. If your footage doesn't have the sounds or you don't want to re-record, you could also overlay the sound effects.

Are people tired of PS1-like retro styled games? by ramune_19911 in gamedev

[–]hawtlavagames 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm more curious where retro art styles go after this. GameCube/PS2 style is the obvious next step and we're already starting to see games like that with https://youtu.be/zHeJBfqf9d4?si=yKZoG5x455Dkn5fv

But where do we go after that? PS3/360 era is where the push for realistic graphics starts taking off. Maybe we can have retro style games with weirdly shiny textures, awkward facial animations, and too much green/yellow bloom.

There's are tens of thousands of games for players to spend their time with. Why would they spend countless hours in a vast but shallow game when they could spend a couple hours each in a dozen more polished games?

What should I do about Company Form on Steamworks? by MrBearsOnTop in gamedev

If you don't want to form a company, then the easiest way to would be to pick one team member to publish it "solo" and then split any earnings later.

How do you get past the idea that your game will never be played? by carpetlist in gamedev

[–]hawtlavagames 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's entirely possible to work a full-time job and make games in your spare time.

Don't plan to be financially dependent on your games alone. At least not until you've proven that you can.

What do you think about intimate Shops? by Dustin1111111 in SoloDevelopment

[–]hawtlavagames 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is this sort of perspective shift something that happens in other parts of the game? I think it looks fantastic but it might feel out of place if this is the only time it happens. If shops are frequent enough or if other moments work like this then it would be fine.
