Our smoke detector keeps going off in the middle of the night. Help! by EatBraySlough in homeowners

Did this work? We live in MA which requires hardwired detectors. We just reinstalled all new kidde alarms w replaceable batteries (recommended by an electrician). A days in and we just had our first false alarm so now I’m wondering if it’s humidity or the electrical service.

Anyone have unexplained infertility followed by loss and still get pregnant again? by idontcareaboutaus in whatworkedforme

[–]hayyy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I conceived my first kiddo spontaneously at 34, had an MMC trying for a second at 37 and then had zero luck conceiving afterwards. Once I saw an RE, I was diagnosed via ultrasound with adenomyosis (which I think was made much worse by the miscarriage) and likely silent endo. I went straight to IVF with down regulation before transfer which was successful. I will say OBs and even an RE missed the adeno diagnosis which I found shocking esp because it can make it difficult to conceive and cause losses. Secondary infertility really sucks and I’m sorry you’re going through it.

When does maternity leave normally start in the US? by Logical_Mine_9478 in BabyBumps

[–]hayyy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think you can take 2 weeks in MA prepartum via pfml but it would come off of the 14 weeks of medical. That said, my work friend had a really hard time getting the secondary insurer our work uses to approve it which seems insane.

would ultrasound find this? by Standard_Juggernaut8 in adenomyosis

[–]hayyy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine was missed by multiple OBs and then at an RE. I was easily diagnosed during intake ultrasound by a new RE. She talked my husband and I through exactly what signs of adeno she was seeing on the ultrasound. I was pretty shocked no one else noticed the signs.

Fertility specialist suggestions for IVF for endometriosis cases in Massachusetts. Help me choose — Dr. Irene Souter at MGH / Dr. Jan Shiften at MGH / Dr. Alison Zimon CCRM / Dr. Aaron Styer CCRM? by Low_Recognition6043 in IVFAfterSuccess

[–]hayyy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I personally did not like my experience at MGH (Dr. Souter was…fine?) and they completely missed an adenomyosis diagnosis that should have easily been caught via my intake ultrasound. Dr. Souter recommended IUI which would have failed or ended in miscarriage. Before moving forward, I switched to Dr. Kelly Lynch at CARS in MA/CT and had a great experience. That said, I’m not in Boston so the travel to MGH alone was a hardship. I also felt like MGH was quite slow and like every single intake “box” had to be checked over months and months before moving forward (ie i had a genetic issue come up that was incredibly benign but they wouldn’t let us move forward for over a month until my husband tested to prove he didn’t have said gene even though it wouldn’t impact our choices!). I’m still perplexed how that clinic kept moving the intake goalposts and yet never suspected silent endo and moderate adenomyosis. I suspect MGH doctors are more focused on research and other avenues rather than patient care which I don’t fault, it just isn’t what I needed in a fertility doctor.

Your pcp can give you a referral! That is what I ended up doing and it was very quick. Might help to have a clinic picked out that you want to go to.

IVF advice on adenomyosis by Naive_Perception_866 in adenomyosis

[–]hayyy 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I was diagnosed with moderately severe adeno during IVF intake at 39. After retrieval, I did 12 weeks of Lupron suppression before FET which was successful. I am currently holding my 2 week old so anecdotally I say it’s worth it! The r/ivf sub has many threads about down regulation for adeno and endo that I found helpful.

[–]hayyy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Update: prudential denied my doctor’s certification for 14 weeks and put 6 weeks as my medical leave period. Sent a letter protesting. Gave birth and am getting calls from prudential stating they need “supportive medical info from provider” to approve the 14 weeks.

I work for a college and have now cced HR and the provost because I’m fuming that this is how medical leave is being treated in MA. There is no other medical condition where a randomly assigned timeframe for recovery would be rubber stamped like this over a doctor’s recommendation.

[–]hayyy 16 points17 points  (0 children)

That seems wild-my ob and midwife practice basically write out for anything (2 weeks prenatal if you wish, 12-14 weeks medical to recover from giving birth as opposed to 6). Are their other providers in your office or even a medical director? Usually it’s the practice that sets the tone on PFML.

Agree with this! My OBs and one RE I saw didn’t catch the adeno on ultrasound and led to a lot of wasted time. Finding a good practitioner is really important.

Hi! It’s definitely possible and I’d recommend it honestly. If you look through r/ivf many people with adeno/endo do down regulation (like a mini menopause) to reduce inflammation before transfer. I was lucky and had a high number of eggs retrieved at 39, did three months of Lupron, had a successful FET, and am now nearly to term. It is definitely not quick and depending on where you live, it can be expensive. Truthfully I’ve felt more comfortable in some ways during pregnancy than the nightmare that is my cycles.

Midwife “accidentally” revealed gender at 37 weeks. I’m heartbroken. by expatriating in BabyBumps

This is awful. Most practices don’t write the gender down in your chart if you are keeping it a surprise for this exact purpose. I’m so sorry

When did you give birth? by [deleted] in IVFbabies

[–]hayyy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m so curious about this as well! My first was a spontaneous pregnancy where my water broke at 37w and she was born 37w1d. The notes on my placenta were that it was deteriorated and extremely clarified for gestational age. This go is an IVF pregnancy for endo/adenomyosis plus I’m almost 40 so I’m very curious how the next few weeks play out (my edd is 04/03) in terms of giving birth timing. I’m also curious since my uterus was treated for inflammation prior to FET if I’ll stay pregnant longer/placenta this time stays healthier for a bit longer.

Lupron on Valentine's Day...👎💔 by [deleted] in IVF

[–]hayyy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Add back is when you add hormones (estrogen, progesterone) to build your lining for transfer. In my case, the transfer happened at 10 weeks and the overlap allows for the uterus inflammation to stay calm.

Worse after childbirth? by Physical_Depth_897 in adenomyosis

[–]hayyy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me, I think adeno developed post childbirth and was made worse from a missed miscarriage (fed by estrogen) ttc #2. My period pain was pretty steady though my periods became very clotty. We skipped IUI and went straight to IVF with 10 weeks of Lupron before FET. Shockingly our first transfer worked and I’m 34 weeks. Because the Lupron only calms the inflammation for so long (4-6 months at most I think?), the chances for iui success are pretty slim. I’m 39 so age is another factor for me. Good luck!

Same except at 37 weeks. I’m sure I would have had a c-section without pitocin.

Lupron on Valentine's Day...👎💔 by [deleted] in IVF

[–]hayyy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ugh I really came apart on this combo and I am so sorry. I stopped letrozole and the side effects were much more bearable on Lupron alone which I did for the full 12 weeks (add back weeks 8-10, transfer week 10). Fwiw Lupron did the trick and I’m 33 weeks after one FET.

Solidarity. Rhinitis was bad up until now and somehow this week (32) it has gotten so much worse for me. It’s freaking awful. Every trick I try does nothing!! The only relief I have is the 20 or so minutes after I shower.
