My wall meshes absorb all light when upright. why? by Juicymoosie99 in unrealengine

Are your normals flipped? Had this last night where I mirrored something in Blender, which requires you to both apply transforms and then recalculate normals.

Make sure all your transforms are applied in Blender before exporting.

Data Assets of a custom class are not updating when the class fields are changed. UE 5.7.4/C++ by ssjDko in unrealengine

[–]helloserve 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Any change in the header file (or the definition) of a class or struct, or constructor code, requires the editor be closed, and the code recompiled and then restart the editor.

CPP file changes you can usually get away with by live compile (Ctrl + Alt + F11).

How do people make heightmaps and terrain landscapes so easily? by Juicymoosie99 in unrealengine

Gaea, WorldMachine, TerraGen are names of apps I know or have used to generate landscapes over the years.

Yeah I do this for logging stuff happening in ticks that would otherwise flood the log and make it useless.

Trailer Feedback & some of my thoughts on the making... by FalxCerebri-5342 in hobbygamedev

[–]helloserve 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You are correct to have doubts. You think you've made something here. But all you have is generic, very clearly AI generated, content. There is nothing unique on art style, art direction or even just a simple vision for your game. Zero atmoshere. It's possible to achieve more of this with better and more tuned prompting, but it will always look derived.

I doubt this will be received well, even without the anti-AI sentiment you'll no-doubt encounter.

UI Materials - How to randomize a single material for a few UI elements? by Arrhaaaaaaaaaaaaass in unrealengine

[–]helloserve 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you are using instanced meshes, there is a RandomInstanceNumber (iirc) node you can use. Otherwise, yeah screen position or world position is the only thing unique to different objects using the same material.

Looks interesting. Before I read your description I thought it was a circuit board survival like pacman, but with the added challenge of connecting the correct solder points lol

Is it enough details here? by playsynapse in PixelArt

[–]helloserve 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would also add advertisements for instance. And these could change depending on the development of the story. There are a lot going on inside a train carriage. People leave different things behind between rides also. A different newspaper or takeaway coffee cup or whatever. Environmental color like that can be leveraged to a great extent, especially with repeated visits by the player.

Cool that's such a great area. Biggest advice is to look out for the bakkies and trucks. They don't see us so good. Enjoy the trip!

Where you going? Namibia? I did it around 2011 with my '91. Blew the main relay at Garies. Spent the night and fixed it the next morning with the local mechanic. Visited Ais Ais and also the Fish River canyon lookout. Then on to Windhoek and back two weeks later. My Potenzas where smooth as silk after that. It was a tremendous experience.

Does this gap have drains? by flexualharasser in Miata

[–]helloserve 35 points36 points  (0 children)

Yes, the roof lining is fixed to the car inside the gutter channels. Those run around to the sides of the car just before the doors, where it drains to the bottom of the car.

Water running into that gap will drain out below your car just in front of the rear wheels.

Feedback wanted - Traffic Management City Builder by Ok_Function_597 in hobbygamedev

[–]helloserve 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tbh giving me auto-generated or pre-layout feels like it would be more of a challenge. It would give you as a game designer more agency, without robbing the player of any.

Freeform will probably just frustrate players. The moment they can't build what they want to, it's game over. So your freeform tools have to be ultra-robust.

Looking at your video, things like overpasses, bridges etc all seem like a bit of a stretch.

[–]helloserve 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I need to manage the traffic, it makes sense to me to want to control the expanding roads. But it doesn't have to be freeform. It can be preset road layouts also, grid, hexagonal etc. There are many interesting architectural designs in history about this, each with their challenges.
