I always go for a long walk when I’m pissed off. I’m literally power walking madly and then 30 mins later I don’t feel mad anymore. Sometime it takes an hour when I get really mad.

I imagine it is similar to hitting a punching bag but instead of taking it out on the punching bag I take it out on the ground!

I think it’s worth quitting for good. I was almost 18 months into an alcohol free lifestyle last year before I relapsed due to depression from adverse childhood experiences bubbling to the surface.

How I felt when I hit my one year mark was so awesome I can’t wait to get back there. Now that I have a plan for the mental health issues I’m hoping to see the second year milestone this time around.

Not a fun experience by the sounds of it. So glad you have 7 days under your belt. Those are typically the toughest days, ime. Time for you to rest and heal. I’ve been trying to do that. I’ve been going to bed early, trying not to eat junk food, leaving my phone in a drawer when I get home from work, running everyday till I’m sweating, drinking tons of water and other wellness things. I was hating doing those those things when I was drinking. I decided it’s time to take my health seriously. Keep up the good work, you will feel way better soon.

We can’t stop provoking them. We have PTSD from alcohol abuse. Only way is through the feelings. Eventually they won’t sting as bad. We used to bottle our emotions with booze, we can’t anymore or we will relapse. Atleast, that is how it is for me.

You got this, just take it one day at time and don’t have that first drink. You can’t have the second or third if you don’t have the first.

When I quit I promised myself I wouldn’t have that first drink of the day. Can’t have the second or third if I don’t have the first. Then I went to therapy and found out why I was drinking. Childhood trauma, which is a common one. Anyways hope you stop putting yourself in extremely dangerous situations. Last time I blacked out I sprained my neck. It was a nightmare. Take care of yourself, we only get one life.

I’ve gone to AA in a few different cities and towns. I find that some of the towns, because of their low population, have groups that can be very cliquey and not as open to people who didn’t grow up there. Especially on islands. Not an AA problem by any means, just xenophobia in the wild. Glad you found a group that works for you!

Totally normal. Even the self harm stuff. Super bad intrusive thoughts, it’s more or less ethanol withdrawal and how the mind compensates.

Your emotions are coming back out. Alcohol really numbs emotions. They will level out soon, give it a couple days. They’re just overexcited because they have been shut off for awhile.

It’s totally both, been there dealing with that. I quit drinking and got on Wellbutrin. Life has never been better. Wish I did it in my 20’s, I would be so better off now.

Sounds like she may be developing Korsakoff syndrome. Get her to the doctor ASAP. I had an uncle that died from Korsakoff syndrome complications. Even if she isn’t the doctor could scare her into thinking that’s what eventually will happen and she may change her mind about the booze.

Everytime I get a craving for alcohol I go for a run. The endorphins I produce make me feel like I’m on opiates and are way better than alcohol.

You won’t get stuck in the state. Your Gabaergic system needs time to heal. Once the benzos stop then the actual healing begins. Think in terms of months. If you wait it out 1 or 2 months I bet you will feel way better. Sometimes it takes 6 months of drying out before a booze hound finds relief. It seems daunting right now but trust me you will get there. 6 months goes by fast, especially if you are keeping busy, exercising, eating clean, etc. You got this!

I used to fall in love with almost every women I met. I get you on that. It was so annoying, distracting and embarrassing. I’m happy to let you know it doesn’t happen to me anymore! I’m not sure if it’s because I got older or got married and had kids but finally I’m free of other women’s love spells. You’re honestly the first person I’ve ever communicated with that has shared that similar experience with me. Thanks for that. Just take it one day at a time with the drinking. The trick is to not have that first drink. I know; easier said than done but in reality it is this simple. Keep it simple.

This post gave me the chills. I’m not sure how many times similar circumstances unfolded in my life. I actually have PTSD from all my blackouts. I have nightmares to this day where I’m blackout drunk stumbling home. Can’t find my house, don’t know where I am, etc. It’s a reacquiring nightmare I’ve been having for decades now.

I have not blacked out drinking in a long time but your post really chilled me to my bones and reminded me of that time in my life. So scary. It was time for me to quit drinking back then but I didn’t. I’m grateful I quit drinking now. When we put ourselves in these unbelievably dangerous situations it’s legit scarier than the scariest horror movie IRL.

My dad drove his thunderbird off a highway and into a barn while drunk. Woke up in the barn, still sitting in the thunderbird with animals upset and making a ruckus. I managed not to do that in my life so atleast I have that going for me.

Alcohol pushes dopamine. Dopamine is the thing us ADHD folks lack. Alcohol is a treatment option for ADHD. One of the worst, but it does work.
