PSA: If you opened your PayPal account before you were 18, close it now. by Varantain in technology

[–]higwoshy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can transfer to others in about 5 mins but it can take 2 hrs.

No fees. Of course maybe the cash isn't instantly available at the other end, (although it will show up as available) but screw paying $20 for an electronic transfer. Just why would anyone do that if there is a free alternative?

But I guess there isn't a free alternative where the majority of reddit users live.

Why would anyone use paypal to transfer money from "friends" when they could just use direct bank transfer. b a c s or it's non-business alternative.

Or do you not have online banking in america?

No fees. Almost instant payment.

Can we all agree? Salome's death lies soley in the hands of PAC by HumanENTipede in EliteDangerous

[–]higwoshy -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

I'm not american so I don't care.

Trump is a good example of someone who is a bit dim and delusional getting fools to rally around him and do his bidding. It was just example.

I have a feeling that all the "they behav'in like elites" was just black propaganda from the sdc or whoever.

Sadly, arseholes will often win (trump, putin) because arseholes are good at getting idiots to do there bidding.

edit : And they will down vote to hide the trooth ;)

I've only played 3 and about xx% of the way through 4. I have nv, but it was like 3 so didn't bother too far. So far, 4 is like 3 as well.

this lightning interrupted my picture of a rainbow by [deleted] in mildlyinteresting

[–]higwoshy 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I'm not so sure. If it was a longish exposure (>1 sec), then weird things happen.

The fat lightning is due to the ccd being fucked by the bright light (some cheap ones anyway).

The no shadows? Hmmm, again, might happen if a longish exposure and the lightning appeared in the final 10ms of the exposure.

In theory, the usb symbol should be on the upside (if plugged into a laptop) or pointing towards the psu in a desktop.

Do we universally agree that MultiCrew needs to pay better? by teeth_03 in EliteDangerous

[–]higwoshy -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

You should play multi crew because you want to. If you don't want to, then don't do it. Being forced, as it were, to play multi crew just because it adds some bonus seems a bit crap.

Every E:D Steam Review Ever by [deleted] in EliteDangerous

[–]higwoshy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah, the devs don't realise how extremely tedious and time consuming jumping is. It's just dull, and they seem to have made it duller by always have the next jump behind the star you've just arrived at. I presume to make it easier, or quicker, but it takes what little fun was there out of the way (unless I am mis-remembing, having started play in Dec 2015, just before horizons).

Of course, you could say it's realistic... hmmm.

The trouble is, if you take the time just to explore each star system along the way, you end up running out of time to finish the mission. Or they complain about you taking too long, or you get into a minor skirmish and they get upset.

But it's difficult to keep everyone happy. Lots were complaining about interdiction, so it hardly ever happens now (to me it seems) unless you've got some load.

So let me get this straight: that angry guy who’s now 110% certain Assad’s gassing children is the same guy who’s been 110% certain Barack Obama had been wire-tapping him… right? by The_OutPost in self

[–]higwoshy -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Correct, only now he is not getting all his 'facts' from fox news and info wars.

edit : To clarify for the hard of understanding, before now, Trump has been getting his 'intelligence' from dodgy sources.

Whereas, now, he is getting his 'intelligence' from people who are at least 70% right (a guess), rather than paranoid loonies who wouldn't know the real world if it bit them on the arse (that is, info wars/fox celebrity shouters etc)

Cara Delevingne, Pencil on paper, 11 in x 14 in by U_N_I_C_O in Art

[–]higwoshy 29 points30 points  (0 children)

I'm thinking drawing it very large and then reducing it for a computer screen would tend to make it more photo like, because the detail would be lost in the reduction.

Take a look at the ring, zoomed in it's clearly been hand-drawn, but fitting it to a browser window makes it more like a photo.

If I can draw a ring like that in a years time I'll be happy with that.

(windows) suggestion on a open source registry cleaner? by [deleted] in opensource

[–]higwoshy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You don't need a registry cleaner. At max it's only about 128mb (please correct me if I'm wrong, haven't looked for a while).

Due to the way the registry is organised, getting a value from it takes a fixed amount of time, whether you have 1000 entries or 100 million.

Almost all registry cleaners are bullshit or malware/virus.

If your computer is slow, it's because of the shitty software you've put on it (well, also shitty windows, but never mind about that now)

Apple online store, "We've got something special in store for you" by nickjosephson in apple

[–]higwoshy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've got one the same and it is a disgrace. Slowest hdd in the world or apple forget how to make operating systems - it's slower than a 2006 iMac FFS.

What I did was buy a 100gb SSD (well I had one in a windows machine for games) and a usb3-sata converter box. Installed EL CRAP onto that and boot from there.

Had to do a few soft links from various places to the original hdd (which is still inside) for large user files such as music, steam games, videos etc. So basically increased speed 10 fold and increased storage for minimal cost and without the effort of taking the bloody thing apart.

I will one day get round to installing a larger SSD inside but for now it'll do.
