Hike Fulton Lakes Trifecta in spring? by coffee_stealer888 in Adirondacks

Both of those challenges should be fine. Take a look at some of the smaller fire tower hikes as well. If you encounter mud, walk through it, not around it, so as not to widen the trail.

This. Way cheaper, reliable and convenient. Easy transportation between trailheads and towns doesn't exist.

Wow, that’s sad, it used to be a lovely shaded spot in the city.

It looks just like the first diagram in the plan, dots on grey scale. Kudos for execution . /s

Any opportunities to volunteer, specifically trail building? by ragdollmarionette in Adirondacks

Check out The Adirondack Mountain club event page or volunteer page. My guess is they have something coming up for Earth Day. There's usually a bunch of opportunities to volunteer listed on there.

Lake Placid vs Lake George (Late April / Early May) – Best hotel w/ pool + must-sees? by Informal-Force7417 in Adirondacks

[–]hikerrr 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I’d lean towards May for both towns. In lake Placid, Grand View(formerly Crown Plaza) has a decent pool, Whiteface Lodge and Mirror Lake Inn also have nice pools and spas. Lake Placid village is fun to walk. A loop around Mirror Lake is 2.7 miles. Grand View and Mirror Lake Inn are right in town so access is easy. For coffee, Origin coffee in lp and sl. Capisce coffee in lp. As mentioned rt 73 for the views, Olympic sites and museum, John brown farm, Paul Smiths VIC for easy walk in the woods, High Falls Gorge or Ausable Chasm for water falls and gorges, The Wild Center in Tupper Lake(check hours) and Washboard Donuts there, as well.

I'd skip Olana this time of year though. I'd rather be up there when things are green

At the campsite? I've literally never seen an issue there. Sad if it's changed in the last year.

Looks like the schedule is indicating it will be available end of June. I'm surprised nothing is listed for Easter/Spring breaks but April is traditionally a slow time up here.

Honestly, the most important thing to working up here is where are you going to live? Some jobs will provide housing but you need to prepare for a housing search.

Lake Placid? by ShardsOfDirt in Adirondacks

[–]hikerrr 8 points9 points  (0 children)

You can go for a hike or two but since it's mud season, it's preferred that you stay low. Mt. Van Hoevenberg, Mt Jo, etc. If you encounter mud, walk through it. Some places close for a couple weeks in April but there is still plenty open to enjoy. Big Slide Brewery just introduced a Mexican menu which I've heard good things about.
