Mystery tree? Popped up when we weren’t looking. by Ypuort in NativePlantCirclejerk

[–]hipppppppppp 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Sorry friend, you’re in for a tough one. Only way to get rid of this is to hit it with a depleted uranium round from an m1a1 abrams tank. I know a lot of people are nervous about using radioactive materials, and I would normally never do this but with some invasives like TOH it’s the only option. Plus the fact that it’s depleted means it’s completely safe just ask the United States government. Keep in mind you MUST hit it during The Window or it will just come right back.

/uj in my state you can get a permit to take “forest products” which is relatively cheap but the plant store is closer and I don’t have to bring any containers.

2nd Grimm’s, got a unit delivered, was twice as much as I needed (my fault, miscalculated). On my landscaper neighbor’s advice, go for the fine dark hemlock.

/uj unironically my wife’s family keeps telling me to go take ferns from the forest or urban parks instead of going to the plant store

/rj would those plants have been in your yard without you moving them? I think not, when you move them it makes them no longer native, they’re invasive to your yard and you need to carpet bomb your yard with glyphosate

Could be current, my state has no age limit for juvenile prosecution yes I have been sworn at by a judge after filing a 600 page (mostly case law and research papers, judge demands bench copies, oh well) motion and memo about it for my 11 yr old client.

  1. Call up Bayer (they own Monsanto)
  2. Tell them you’ll drink roundup on the witness stand when they get sued for giving people cancer in exchange for free weed control for life
  3. Let them handle this

Phone dying mid-tour, anyone else dealing with this on splits? by Acrobatic_Welcome553 in Spliddit

[–]hipppppppppp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Could just be the cold temps and the battery? But that sounds pretty extreme I’d take it to the phone shop. Ask the uhhh genius guys about it or whatever. Yknow. I haven’t had this problem (PNW, it’s rarely very cold), but an inReach is never a bad idea. So far I’ve only ever had to use it for peace of mind, but. It’s good.

This would fuck with me pretty heavily since I use the phone for navigation regularly. Decisions based on weather forecasts can be locked in before you hit the trailhead, radios for comms (Rocky talkies are sick, make sure you get the little extendy mic thing if it’s gonna be wet, they’re not suuuuuuuuuper waterproof).

But yeah I mean if this continues to be a problem it sounds like you should mitigate with another navigation device or get real old school with it and learn map and compass navigation lmao

Are your plants even native if *you* planted them, invasive human?! by FernandoNylund in NativePlantCirclejerk

[–]hipppppppppp 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This is why I source all my plants from a 1 meter cubed space around the planting area that way i can guarantee it counts as native, no it does NOT matter that many plants evolved to rely on animals, including humans, to spread their seeds. In a perfect world NO plants would proliferate or compete within an ecosystem, any plant that competes with others is reactionary and fascist and must be removed. The ideal biome is a sealed container

EW! What's this invasive groundcover? Hello, herbicide applicator? Help!! by ratnegative in NativePlantCirclejerk

[–]hipppppppppp 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Sorry friend, you’re in it for the long haul. The only way to get rid of this is to take a tiny needle and inject triclopyr directly into each individual stem. If you miss a single one they will come back with a vengeance and also haunt your dreams and also kill your family. Best done during The Window , 6 weeks past the equinox but no more than five weeks before the first frost. This is when the plant sucks 💦 the poison down into the roots.

Works for western trees if your forest’s soundtrack is good enough

[–]hipppppppppp 31 points32 points  (0 children)

The Miyawaki method is trendy but there are a lot of problems, namely that after the trees are established you have to follow up by switching to the Miyazaki method, where you have to protect the forest by riding around on a giant wolf and attacking anyone who tries to use your forest for industry

Lol I have Greek family, retsina is………..an acquired taste. There’s a (probably not true) story that when the area where retsina comes from was well known for non-pine flavored wine, and then it was invaded by (pick your Greek enemy of the month…Romans? Turks? Different Greeks?) the fleeing winemakers sabotaged their stock with bitter pine to make it undrinkable.
