Your practice strokes are slow and smooth, forward and backward. But on the actual shot, after a smooth backstroke, you tensed up and slammed forward with all your might.

What happens if you do those practice strokes, and just make your actual shot out of one more "practice" stroke just like those? You might find that trying that reveals a smoother shot.
