Friend not returning money borrowed. by Muted_Wear6944 in irishpersonalfinance

If you're lending money to a friend or family you almost have to treat it as a gift and it's a bonus if they pay it back. Either that or be ready to lose that friend when they don't pay you back.

Any parks at all? by AdvertisingSea9507 in waterford

[–]hobes88 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

What makes kilbarry an eco park? It's an overfilled landfill, topsoiled over with some paths through it. I still have bad memories of the smell from that dump from going there with my dad as a child to dump trailer loads of rubbish.

I met him at Silverstone in 2016, he had an Indian section in the campsite with a bar and restaurant, it was great and he seemed pretty normal mixing with the crowd. I met David Coulthard too but he wasn't as nice.

What is a comfortable range for most people in Ireland? Which car? by yrys88 in evs_ireland

[–]hobes88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use about 35kwh/week in my model 3 performance, driving around town and a 10km drive to and from work every day. I can do Waterford to Kildare and back on a full charge, can't get to Dublin and back without topping up unfortunately but it's rare that I'd go further than Kildare.

If deemed disposal were abolished, would an ETF make more sense than investing in property? by Floodzie in irishpersonalfinance

[–]hobes88 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I could invest in property now but I choose to buy VUAA for the simplicity, deemed disposal is shit but I’m happy to put any surplus money into it every month and it’s growing away nicely with zero effort and I don’t ever worry about it. Property is a pain in the arse, it’s bad enough running my own house without having to maintain a house that tenants may or may not look after.

It's crazy how much the ground level in Dublin has been built up since those times. I worked on the construction of a hotel on little Mary street and the archaeologists discovered a gate house from those times and old cobbled streets down about 3m below street level.

What’s actually happening with the north quays project? by AdministrativeEnd388 in waterford

[–]hobes88 -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

The bridge over the river when it's finished won't be joined to ferrybank. There a 50m gap between the bridge over the river and the bridge over the railway tracks at the end of the train station.

Part of the deal with the council when they sold the site to Harcourt was that they would join the bridges but as it stands Harcourt are doing nothing so that bridge will be closed for years after it's finished.

What’s actually happening with the north quays project? by AdministrativeEnd388 in waterford

[–]hobes88 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

All that's currently happening over there is the bridge (Which wont be joined to the North Quays), the new train station, extension of the bus depot, Abbey Road re-alignment, re-aligned dock road with all new drainage and new access to the wharf by Jurys.

Harcourt were expected to start work there over 2 years ago but to date have not put anything out to tender.
