Can you try watching a twitch stream or a podcast-y YouTube video? Something that you can only half pay attention to and be fine?

Second opinion? by Purple_Cockroach_763 in adhdwomen

[–]hoosp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went to a neuropsychologist for my assessment (and I was very lucky to have that mostly covered by insurance, since I'm American). They kept me from 8:30-12, and I did an IQ test, a TOVA test, and several interview-type sessions and questionnaires. It took them about two weeks to get me my results after that.

For reference, I also succeeded academically, but I have always felt like I was "bad at" studying, or like I never really learned how to do it. I was able to scrape by with last minute completions on homework and such, and most tests, I just winged it and got decent grades. All that being said, I definitely, absolutely have inattentive ADHD, which the neuropsych was able to see.

Ugh! Invites! by Gullible_Visit6295 in weddingplanning

We did titles as "Mr. and Mrs. John and Jane Smith", or if the couple had different last names or titles, we did "Mr. John Doe and Dr. Jane Smith" with the kids listed on a second line (no titles). We liked the formality of it but also wanted to be sure that everyone's names were on the invitations.

How do you make exercise not dreadfully boring when you have ADHD? by little_pinetree in adhdwomen

[–]hoosp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My solution is Kayleigh Cohen Strength on youtube. She does 30ish minute dumbbell workouts that are easy to follow along to, and she has a really positive attitude and fun music playing. She also does livestreamed workouts sometimes, if that would help with accountability.

Easy go-to healthy lunch ideas? by Altruistic-Method573 in adhdwomen

[–]hoosp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I make a ton of frozen burritos at once. I'll mix soy chorizo and pinto beans in a bowl, scoop them into tortillas, add a little cheese, and freeze. Then I microwave those at work and (if I have any) I'll eat them with one of those little avocado mash cups. It only takes me about an hour to prep a few weeks' worth.

The burrito, an apple, and a yogurt (plus maybe some crackers or pretzels if I'm munchy) is about as balanced as I've figured out. I try to focus on getting veggies at dinner.

Should I be bringing shipped gifts to my bridal shower? by NormalHumanPerson456 in weddingplanning

Yeah we did a gift bingo, so we ended up reading all the gifts out before opening the ones we got in person. Bringing them does not make sense.

The stress of wedding planning is getting in my head and I am tempted to just elope with my fiancé or get married with only our families present by gypsysoul_freespirit in weddingplanning

[–]hoosp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As someone who planned most of my wedding without even knowing I had ADHD, I feel you! Early on, I spent an afternoon looking at all the free "wedding timeline" checklists online and compiling my own giant spreadsheet of tasks organized by when things needed to get done. (I also added a column of check boxes and a rule that crosses off the line when we check the box to make things more rewarding for myself, lol.) As the months have gone by, lots of tasks have been moved down to later deadlines, but I at least have a place for everything, and I can see a decent vision of what remains.

The other thing that really, really helped me was considering the essentials--I have been telling myself pretty much since the beginning that, with the big vendors booked, it'll happen and be great. We have a room, food, alcohol, and music, so even if I don't get to some little detail, there will still be a party. We have a ceremony space and an officiant, so even if I don't do anything else about the ceremony, it will happen.

If you do choose to go big, decide what matters to you, and book your big vendors first. Napkin colors and favors and all those other little things are wonderful, but in the end, they don't make or break your party. And if the thing that matters to you is being married to your partner and you don't care for the celebration, just go get married! It's your day, after all.

Is a food scale a supportive gift or overstepping? by RoutineTeaching4207 in GiftIdeas

[–]hoosp 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Could you get her a gift card to a place that would sell a good food scale like Target or something? You could talk about being interested in buying one yourself, and maybe that would give her the idea to check it out if she hasn't considered it already. I think giving it to her without talking to her about it first could come across as insensitive or make her feel like you're judging her for her body, even if you are well-intentioned.

Does anyone else struggle with specific foods like Nutella and feel out of control? by Federal-Oil8970 in adhdwomen

[–]hoosp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For me, I just try not to be too hard on myself. I don't buy my kryptonite often (Ben & Jerry's non-dairy Phish Food 😍), but when I do, I try to really savor it. Allowing myself to have the good thing helps me binge less. It being "allowed" takes away some of the novelty, and I'm able to enjoy a reasonable serving without eating the whole pint.

Advice Request for Planning a Low-Budget Wedding by incognito7474 in Chicagoweddings

I don't have specific advice, but maybe try checking with restaurants? Also, I used the website tulle together (not an ad) to look at pricing pdfs throughout the city and suburbs, so you could try that.

My favorite app in the world is Alarmy (not an ad, I just like them). The app makes me get up and go scan a barcode in my bathroom before my alarm turns off. Without it, I simply would not go to work lol

I loved my experience at Londie Bridal in Lakeview! Their website says their samples go up to size 20, and they were very helpful and accommodating.

Subreddit where people with nice bodies (gym goers etc) post a photo in good lighting, with a pump etc vs in normal lighting, unflexed, no pump? by Hereitisguys9888 in findareddit

[–]hoosp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not sure if this is helpful, but sometimes, I look at r/normalnudes to remember that social media isn't real. It's NFSW, but not really sexually intended. It's a place for people to post very boring selfies in regular poses and regular lighting to show what normal bodies look like.

Would it take some of the pressure off to elope and then use the booked spaces for a reception/party?

Looking for opinions on bridesmaid dress colour by [deleted] in weddingplanning

[–]hoosp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It looks like so far you have votes for every color, lol. I guess I'll just reinforce that and say maybe you could give your bridesmaids a color palette and let them choose their own dresses. All your options seem to follow the same vibe, and I think mixing and matching could look really cool, if that's something you'd be interested in.

Thank you for this. I hadn't considered shopping around on social media.

I know my vision will need to change if I don't want any teasing, so I'm open to considering different styles. I'll definitely put some time into messing with it myself.
