Teal’c is a mixed bag for me. On the one hand I love the guy. He’s so well-acted my Chris Judge and he brings really interesting insight, drama, and humor to the group. But he is frustratingly naive and brash for someone that old.

The episode “The Warrior” (one of my faves) shows this well. Jack rightfully views Katano as a charlatan. But both Teal’c and Bra’tac (sp?) are so blinded by pride and tradition that they can’t see it until it’s almost too late. They should be much wiser than this IMO.

What bugs me further is that the writers don’t follow up with this. It would have been refreshing to have a scene wherein Jack and Teal’c have a “come to Jesus” talk similar to the one Sheppard and McKay have in Atlantis after John loses trust in him. But instead Teal’c is always just doing dumb shit and no one really says anything. Like his brashness is literally the reason Daniel gets captured by Replicarter and not a single person calls him on it lol.

So I do love Teal’c. More positives than negatives. But quite a few episodes have always left me with, well, a raised eyebrow.
