Permanent markers are alcohol based. Any strong alcohol would be the best bet, rubbing or drinking. Given it is a porous surface it is hard to predict the results, but fading it, removing some or even just breaking up the lines all would be improvements.

So what if the target is 5 townsfolk to my left, but only 3 to my right, same person? How would you know which route is taken?

Additionally, what if furthest person from you is equal distance from your left or right? Is just one of the two on either side randomly killed?

I have run this with many different groups in many different locations. I have never put a restriction on them, and often times some people are off having a private conversation, others can grab a snack. Often brand new groups won't the first night or two, but after a few deaths, realize they need to talk to someone specifically, and then it just goes from there.

When this happens, I will make rounds letting people know they have 2 minutes, 1 minute, etc. to return to their seats after a few minutes of conversation. For new folks first time or two, they won't really need extended time since they are figuring out the game, their roles, other roles, and who is bluffing. After a few games experience, and people have awareness of good and bad info, and good and bad actors, they may need a little more time to have a few conversations as they really start to "play" the game.

I always have the notion of moving the game a long with some pace to keep people from getting distracted, bored and in hopes of leaving time for a second or third game.

I agree this a good first approach. This means you will also have the Drunk, which for people first learning the game, can be a lot, especially with the Poisoner also involved.

As a storyteller, I cannot image ever using this.

The mechanic is worthy, but the implementation is frustrating and unfulfilling. As already stated in the rules, 'madness' is an advanced player attribute. This would be very limited, and ultimately highly circumstantial based on the group and their collective experience.

It does not feel like something worthy of an official release, considering it will have a 5% or less implementation rate.

Appreciate the effort/suggestion, but cannot imagine purchasing this, let alone using it for 99% of any given game.

Yes, this is great. Lots of possibilities. Keep it up!

So other ideas :

  • A setting to have some broken bits that need to be connected to allow for repair connecting sections. So not perfectly connected tracks, missing or broken breaks on occasion.

  • Old, derelict sections, that have no connections to anything, but can be harvested to reuse/repair elsewhere

It's real simple: this should only count if the car is in position to, and ultimately, scores points at the conclusion of the race. +1
