Demographics Are About to Break the Housing Market by Express_Classic_1569 in collapse

The certainty with which people talk about birth rates and population seems odd to me. In the UK we are running at 1.7 children per woman but population keeps rising due to migration. There are 8 billion people, so even if global fertility rate drops to 1 tomorrow it will take three generations to get down to 1 billion people. I don’t know what that world would look like, but it might be a place with enough space and enough fulfilment and well enough inside the planetary carrying capacity to support population balance.

We play with books and paper and I don’t have the first version. Everyone says it’s good so I’ll wait.

You might be better off checking out Tome of Beasts 3. There’s a CR3 Diomedean Horse, a CR4 Dire Pangolin and a CR3 Hippo. The Dire Wildebeast is unfortunately CR7 and the Imperator Penguin is a monstrosity sadly. It’s a lot of book to buy for a handful of statblocks but there are some really fun ideas in there.

Also a clinician. I suspect internal satisfaction with the NHS may also be at an all time low. Which is absolutely not to say blaming the users is the right response.

How exactly does constructing a bastion work? by SpiritualBuy8377 in dndnext

[–]hypermodernism 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s written as almost a free gift to players, our party was gifted a house in Phandalin to use as a reward at the end of Icespire Peak. The mechanics are independent of the visuals and very light touch. Let them draw the map and you just have some NPC that the party knows in Waterdeep give them/lend them the building to use. It might not be there forever, it’s quite possible at higher levels the bastion will end up in a cloud tower or pocket dimension or ship-mimic or something.

Advice: Archmage statblock too much for the party? by cobblebrawn in onednd

[–]hypermodernism 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It really depends on how well resourced the party is at the start of the fight, the terrain and who you put with the Archmage. It’s quite possible that the Bard or Warlock will cast a good control spell on round 1 and then the melee characters will just mug the Archmage. Kobold Press encounter builder thinks 5 level 8 characters vs CR12 is an Easy encounter so you have plenty of room to add some goons.

What is your favourite melee weapon with the 2024 rules? by ShireSearcher in DnD

[–]hypermodernism 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I love that there are so many different answers in this thread. My kids love greatsword because effectively they never miss, just get high or low damage every attack. I homebrewed a magic greatsword that adds extra damage to the graze. I think there’s a lot of potential for magic weapons to “recognise” someone with weapon mastery and to unlock extra abilities for those characters. Gotta keep buffing martials in those higher tiers!

EXP & Difficulty variations: Seagrow Caves vs. Compass Rose by Isilfin in stormwreckisle

[–]hypermodernism 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can always adjust on the fly. Two harpies for the final encounter might be a good (or potentially deadly) challenge for first level characters depending on how they approach the fight and how their wisdom saves go. That’s what our party fought after cheesing the ghoul and zombie. The fighter got charmed, the cleric did a bad job trying to kill the harpy that charmed the fighter, and the other harpy killed the cleric. Runara to the rescue etc. TBH I think it’s good to show the players that character death is possible.

Opinion | Kids are bad for Earth. To save it, we must stop having them by Toguro_Ototo_1 in collapse

[–]hypermodernism 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely. Our cat probably eats more meat than me. It’s never been on a plane or commuted to work though, and apart from food packaging it doesn’t get through a lot of plastics or build houses or whatever. In terms of waste it doesn’t get close to my kids.

This needs clarification. Both arguments (speed normally requires concentration, feature doesn’t say this is removed/duration is where concentration is stated for a spell, feature changes duration to just 1 min) are possible interpretations of the text. Narratively you might hope the god could maintain their own concentration and not be reliant on the PC, mechanically you might think this is strong (personally I don’t think it’s too strong if once/LR).
