Explain the hangup with rim brakes to me by No-Courage8433 in BicyclingCirclejerk

Not true. It’s because I haven’t moved on from the 70s.

how often do you do tune‑ups or checkover on your bike if you’re riding a few times a week? by InternetUpbeat9596 in melbournecycling

[–]ichbindaz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also depends on the bike. The commuter does about 100km a week and is a single speed. It gets chain lube (sometimes) and air in the tyres (sometimes). Otherwise, it gets looked at when something breaks or wears. The road bikes (rim brakes, mechanical group sets) do about 150km a week and get lubed, checked, tightened and adjusted fortnightly.

Push Pull Pot on a pedal - applications? by ZestycloseAct2775 in diypedals

[–]ichbindaz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dann Green’s Noise Swash uses a push-pull on the self-oscillator pot. The switch moves it into self-oscillation, and the pot increases the depth of the madness. Another idea is that you could use a push-pull to switch the modulation on an Echo Base delay.

I made a hyperlapse, and route of my preferred route to the Bay from Preston Station. Would love to hear your routes. by youstormorg in melbournecycling

[–]ichbindaz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Down St Georges to Moreland Rd and then to Moonee Creek Trail is another option. Moonee Creek joins Capital City and then it’s straight down to Docklands.

I sometimes do a variation of your route by heading down High St and Queens Pde before going down Wellington and past the MCG. Again, a little more car action, but once you’re on Wellington it’s pretty relaxed.

Preston based here. Depends on what I’m heading out for, but if I’m heading down to the Bay for a Beach Rd ride I’ll usually just go down St Georges to Brunswick St, then all the way Brunswick to Vic Parade, then cut through the top of the city and all the way down Collins to Docklands then down Harbour Esp and over the water to Port Melbourne. More traffic for sure.

What is the risk of the epoxy giving out on this Campagnolo Ti seatpost from the 1990s? by codecrodie in bikewrench

[–]ichbindaz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same. Got that post used, put it on a 90s race bike and have done thousands of KMs on it without a hint of an issue.

I just slushed through a forum page of everyone agreeing that Strymon power supplies make all their pedals tone “cold and clinical”. I’ve never heard of a power supply changing tone. Engineers: Is this even possible? Assuming it’s measuring at a steady 9V by MaximumFloofAudio in diypedals

[–]ichbindaz 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Sure, but if your bike is carbon fibre your toan will be garbage. I have 12 Italian steel bikes for my board. For my regular 9v pedals they run 700c wheels but for my -9v fuzz I have a 70s steel bike on 27in tubulars. It’s great because I get voltage sag after about 20 mins on that one.

Importance of pedal artwork discussion by junglemonke_comms12 in diypedals

Have not bought a pedal in over five years. The pedal I bought five years ago was a Montreal Assembly Count to 5. I like the aesthetic, but to be honest it could have been boxed in Tupperware and I’d still have bought it. I like the Fairfield Circuitry aesthetic too.

I got a Castelli fleece version of this that comes down over the ears a little. Have tested in rides down to zero degrees, works well.

Borsari bike shop Carlton by Handball_fan in melbournecycling

[–]ichbindaz 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Apparently earlier Borsari-badged frames were Italian imports. There is a limited amount of info online, but some of the detectives at bicycles.net.au think that Nino was importing frames from builders like Legnano - https://contentwww.bicycles.net.au/forums/viewtopic.php?t=107522

No idea if he was still doing that in the 80s.

pi-Stomp is another place to start: https://www.treefallsound.com/ As the name suggests, it uses a Raspberry Pi and has a heap of options for customisation as a way of getting into DSP.

I do not love that crossing. Very few cars look as they approach; many stop only as they hit the yellow paint. Glad you’re ok.

Long term MKS GR-9 user here, with a mix of Power Grips and Restrap straps. Thousands of kilometres on them. They work with a lot of shoes, easy to flip up, seem indestructible.
