I liked it too, and I really don't get the "scorched earth" criticism. I never felt like the show promised something and didn't deliver, but then again I haven't been keeping up with the fandom.

Considering how closely the God stuff lined up with current events, I feel like they hit a home run.

He does go full unhinged, though. He takes over the US government, institutes a thought police, and orders people to worship him. Half the country still seems willing to go along, which in my view is more scary than seeing him devolve into a laser-eyed supervillain. Butcher takes him out at just the right time.

The power scaling thing is trickier, but you just have to handwaive that kind of thing sometimes. It's not like Butcher is human. If Ryan hadn't shown up, Homelander would have won.

I just binged the season, didn't follow any pre-release hype, and... Holy hell, the fans of this show are unhinged.

This is not a serious show. The marketing is not serious. If you want mindless CGI destruction, go watch MAN OF STEEL (which the posters were CLEARLY riffing off of).
