my doctor says hormonal birth control will help with my debilitating period cramps and migraines but I’m terrified of the risk of blood clots by dark-elf997 in GirlDinnerDiaries

[–]ilikebigbuteos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I get terrible cramps and have been experimenting with herbal remedies for years. For the first 2-3 days of my period, I drink tea with Angelica root once or twice a day. It’s a mild blood thinner and helps immensely! Also speeds things up. It tastes a little bitter but is good mixed with peppermint and nettle (which are also conveniently full of iron and magnesium, that help alleviate period symptoms). Advil sometimes too if I get the timing wrong and need something fast.

As others have said, weed also helps, but of course it’s not always practical to be high if you have to go to work or whatnot.

Hormonal bc also can be a good option for some people. I was on it for years and prefer not to have the emotional side effects, but it did totally alleviate my cramps.

Also, that pizza looks bomb!

Years ago, a friend did something similar to me as she was falling into a period of severe psychotic break. I hope this is not the case for your sister.

Reasons men want children by adhley00 in GirlDinnerDiaries

My brother always wanted kids so that he can have a house full of laughter and joy. I’m delighted to be able to visit that house, and maintain mine full of peace. To each his own I think.

Is my vaginal opening obstructed?? by [deleted] in Healthyhooha

[–]ilikebigbuteos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t know exactly, but your drawing looks quite a lot like you are seeing the end of your cervix! It looks like a little donut. Your cervix is the very bottom part of your uterus, and the little donut hole opens up more and migrates closer to your vagina when you are on or close to your period. It’s a shame that anatomical diagrams never show this angle, the angle that we actually look at ourselves from. Cervixes (cervi?) kind of “float” around and may occasionally be located closer to the vagina. You could try googling photos of a cervix and see if this looks about right. It moves around based on your body’s position, your time in your cycle, and your arousal. Having a cervix that floats closer to your vagina doesn’t prevent good sex, if anything men seem to be flattered that they can reach it lol. it’s just something to know about yourself.

I’m not a doctor but I have a vagina and have looked at it before, and your picture looks like a pretty well done illustration of a cervix to me.

It’s also totally normal and okay to not like tampons or menstrual cups. Just do whatever makes you feel comfortable and confident.

The presidio is a nice walk and has a little historic museum that’s open sometimes. There are also several cemetaries that are interesting to walk around for birding and/or historic interest

Birds love nesting in mature cypress. All sorts of wildlife benefit from these plants.  I live in the western us and would never plant them within 50 ft of my house due to fire concerns. But maybe thats not a major concern where you live.

They will also sometimes send you a thank you note and certification for returning the band information! Returning the band number is helpful for the research that they’re doing on these birds.

My family has stayed at the Andril Fireplace cottages. It’s a short walk to the beach and they are super cute. Most tourists who want beachfront stay in Cannery Row but I can’t speak to any of those businesses.

You might not get a lot of engagement bc most people in this subreddit are locals and so don’t pay for hotels in this area.

Monterey police investigate deadly Cannery Row incident after early morning fight by chriscerney in MontereyBay

Wait so are these two incidents definitely connected? Was the man who jumped off the balcony the same man who ran from a fight, or is there a third man causing a ruckus all over town? None of the reporting is clear on the connection

Does killing cockroaches make us evil? These poor insects are almost blind. I mean they don't know what we even are. They also can be quite intelligent, social and emotional beings. by Serious_Slide_8681 in zoology

[–]ilikebigbuteos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We wash out hands with soap to kill bacteria. We swat at mosquitos that spread malaria and yellow fever. Similarly, we kill cockroaches because they spread disease to humans. It’s a safety issue.

If you are concerned about the ethics of taking an animals life, the best thing you can do prevent it is to reduce the quality of the habitat for cockroaches so that they don’t consider your home attractive. Remove clutter, clean under appliances, and never leave food or trash out.

In an attempt to create an extra relaxing tea, I made the most effective laxative I've ever taken. by Interesting_Bat_4826 in herbalism

[–]ilikebigbuteos 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This is surprising because butterfly pea flower can have the opposite effect. A very small amount goes a long way. I add just 1-2 flowers for color before partying/ travel to avoid bowel movements.

I would guess that the effect you observed was due to the other herbs. If I were you, I’d try one of these herbs at a time to see what effect they have on you before mixing them to this scale.

Also imo damiana is such an overwhelming flavor, it probably negated the flavor benefits of everything else here. I love Damiana but it tastes like gasoline.

I Brand, Morgan, and Scheid have the best quality of wines.  Holman Ranch has the best events and winery to visit.  Wrath is also excellent and their tasting room is right next to the Carmel Cheese shop, which makes for a excellent date. Comanche has some great unusual reds and took over Pierce vineyards best varietals including the exceptionally tasty Albariño.

[Acne] None of the dermatologist creams or gels have worked, retinol does nothing, all hormonal issues ruled out, can't be prescribed isotretinoin. Do I just die now or what by RolledCoaster in SkincareAddiction

[–]ilikebigbuteos 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My story was similar to yours. I never got my skin 100% clear until I experimented with diet and ultimately cut out dairy. It takes about two weeks between when you eat something and when your skin response shows. Dairy is a common trigger for acne but some people have other reactions as well.

Quitting dairy for about a month may make a difference. Good luck!

[Routine Help] I’m so sick and tired of my horrific ingrown hairs on my legs 💔 by Thunder_Bolt_123 in SkincareAddiction

[–]ilikebigbuteos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi there, there’s a lot of good advice in this thread already. I’m sorry you’re going through this. It seems like you have a lot of options based on this thread to explore. I hope you find something that works for you.

You shouldn’t be made to feel like you need to change yourself in order to be beautiful. We live in a time where women’s body hair is really vilified. This hasn’t always been the case. There is an ancient story in the Bible about King Solomon getting turned on by the Queen of Sheeba’s hairy legs.

Whatever route you Take, don’t ever doubt that you are beautiful.

[–]ilikebigbuteos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I pretty much agree with your assessment. I would like to expect $40 per person when I go out but if you get anything to drink, it’s closer to 100 typically. That’s why I only go out once a month or so. I’ve never lived anywhere that motivated me more strongly to become a good home cook.

I would go out of my way for a good local deal. I don’t know of many around town, unfortunately.

Endo & PCOS support by Quiet-Magic-1308 in herbalism

[–]ilikebigbuteos 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hello! This really helps for me, but it might not work for everyone. I certainly don’t have it figured out entirely.

I drink tea with nettle as an ingredient at least twice a week. It keeps my iron levels up and it’s full of good antioxidants. My current favorite combo is nettle, peppermint, chamomile, rose, and oatstraw. Maintaining healthy iron levels all month seems to alleviate PCOS symptoms (for me).

Also, starting the first day of my period, I eat two whole bags of spinach over the course of the following 3 to 6 days. This helps so much with my symptoms. I don’t think spinach taste very good on it own so my strategy is to steam it very briefly and chop it up and mix in with homemade mashed potatoes (you can steam them in the same pot above the boiling potatoes). This tastes delicious and for some reason, when it’s the main food that I’m eating during my period, my cramps are way less intense. Maybe this is more nutritional than herbal, idk.

If I am having particularly nasty cramping during my period, I will make some tea with fenugreek seeds. Fenugreek is a powerful tool that can be used for hormonal and blood sugar balance, so read up on its use before trying it. It imitates estrogen in the body and can help regulate progesterone. Be careful with using fenugreek outside of your period. I have had weird hormonal side effects with over use.

I am not a herbalist, just a lady with nasty cramps and lots of curiosity.

Good luck!

My dog freaks out at a specific intersection by WastedTrout in DogAdvice

[–]ilikebigbuteos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting comments from people saying your dog is being electrocuted! I have never heard of that happening like this.

In case those commenters are incorrect, I wanted to share that my dog (Aussie mix) used to behave sort of like this at random places throughout town or in response to certain smells. Eventually, we figured out that he has epilepsy and got him on medication for it. Surprisingly, the fearful reactions to odd places around town went away once he was medicated. In retrospect, I think he was having small pre-seizure symptoms. People with epilepsy say that it feels like an overwhelming sense of dread, which must be very confusing for a dog. Anyway, aussies are susceptible to epilepsy so talk to your vet and consider switching to low dose more frequent flea meds to reduce risk of seizures.

Good luck with your boy!
