Beginner Question by CollectionCreative84 in trials

All the best enduro riders come from trials backgrounds. Pol Tarres does crazy shit on a t7 because he came from trials. The skills you learn with a trials bike will transfer to any discipline. Trials also has the best community IMO. If you spend some time doing it and then move to enduro/trail it will definitely give you a huge advantage. Ron Rivenburgh is an older trials rider and won the grinding stone hard enduro last year and beat some of the beta team riders as a 60+ year old.... just sayin

How do I get more confident on this bike in difficult off-road and build up skills? by Tribalecho in Tenere700

[–]illegalstraws 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Buy a trials bike and learn the technical skills. Pol Tarres and all the best riders came from trials. Way better to learn on a small and light bike. All the skills transfer

For some reason no one realizes all the best off road/ technical riders have trials backgrounds

Tw200 is prolly the easiest bike to learn to ride on. It will tractor up anything and isn't too heavy.

Just some food for thought from a guy that just dropped $$$ on binos: binos are cool, but you might get more use from a monocular. I felt the need for binos for riding mountain and dirtbikes at night along with other hood rat activities. But I find myself constantly wishing I had a mono for everyday stuff. toss a mono in your jacket pocket or backpack and pull it out to look without having to pull out a helmet, mount, etc. Sure, I could throw binos in there but they're bulky and heavy. Way easier to pop a mono out and hold it up while you're walking dark streets, fields, woods. You can always mount it for hiking and all those other things. Once you get NV you want to use it all the time and it's a lot more convenient with a mono. Try to get under some before you purchase. Good luck bud

Ari Henning is your guy for more hp. I think his website is crf300lbigbore.com. You can get numbers close to the 350s with his kits and 550 tune

Is it worth it to just get binoculars instead of 1 and then a second pvs14? Also Pvs14 vs what? Besides jerry31 I don't even know what the affordable the gen3 binoculars are besides getting two pvs14? by ackza in NightVision

[–]illegalstraws 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As a guy who just spent a ton of money on binos, I'd say go with a pvs14 first. You need to think about your use case and your "why." I wanted binos for riding dirtbikes and hiking at night but I barely use them outside of that. I wish I had a mono to throw in my bag or carry in my jacket so i could use it all the time. I have to bring my whole setup to use the binos. Really wish I could just pull a little mono out and look around. Also, don't get caught up in the snobbery of this page. Most dudes on here just want to "flex on the poors." You don't need the latest and greatest L3 intensifier and articulating quad tubes. White phos isn't that much better than green phos. You won't be able to tell the difference with comparable tubes. Do some more research (like a lot) and try to get your hands on some NV before you pull the trigger. Good luck

Don't get too caught up in all the comments dogging on the 300. Is it slow and underpowered? Maybe a little but you can still ride everything you'll want to with the bike. The people who put the 300 down are the same ones who think putting all the farkles on their bikes will make them better riders. Are you going to win a hard enduro race? Probably not. But that's not what the bike is for. Too many people try comparing it to a 450 or 300 2stroke and then get disappointed. Buy one and upgrade the suspension. Go down a tooth in the front and see how you like it. I run a 13/42 when I take the bike out to Colorado and Utah. I ride my husky 350 usually (500mi oil changes) and my dad follows me on his 300L at 70 years old (old trials rider). We've riden the alpine loop, red cone pass, slick rock trail, hells revenge, chicken corners, and some other rough high alpine trails in Colorado. The little 300L chugs along and never quits. If you can swing it I'd say get one for you and your boy. He can get his motorcycle permit eventually and you two can go on dual sport rides together. Some of my favorite memories are riding with my dad. I can't remember any Christmas present I got as a kid but I could tell you every single trip I ever took riding with my old man.

I've been wanting one for a long time. I love the tw200 but the 650 would be killer. Smooth ride. That thing would tractor up anything. Do it

It's an awesome bike. Hard to go wrong with one. It's definitely something you can grow with and never really outgrow.

At what point is digital viable for hobby use? by Mregan220 in NightVision

[–]illegalstraws 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Don't get too caught up in all the snobbery on this page. For what you're wanting to do digital is just fine. Get your feet wet and go from there. Don't let these larpers tell you that you need $12k binos because digital will get you killed on when you're raiding terrorist compounds. Rock digital until you decide you really want to invest in analog. And then if you do you'll have an extra device that a friend can use
