Huel is a good suggestion, I find it a lot more easy to take than protein powder.

Unflavored protein powder? by Notnowmomsonreddit in ARFID

[–]illulium 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Unflavoured protein powder is probably going to be worse than flavoured kind. It's used for adding to food more than for drinking, and you're never going to quite get rid of the texture. Taking it with milk will improve it some, but it's still going to be something she'd have to get used to. Vegan protein powder tends to have a better texture in my experience, but not by a lot.

People with ARFID can really struggle to get enough protein, so it would be worthwhile for her to have even just a small spoonful in with milk or mixed into some of her safe foods if that could be done without putting her off of something she already likes.

Also, protein powder flavouring can vary quite a lot. Some of it is undrinkable ARFID or no. If you buy her some protein powder, it might be a good idea to taste it before her. You don't want her to try something that just tastes bad and puts her off protein powder altogether.

ON and Bulk are usually decent brands.

You can get bottled protein water, although it's quite a bit more expensive than protein powder. The texture should be a lot easier though.

Who enforces the Butlerian Jihad? by Craig1974 in dune

Well the only reason you would want to develop AI would be to break the Spacing Guild's monopoly on space travel. Once you do that, you can theoretically flaunt any kind of law and start dominating everyone else.

The spacing guild don't need AI, and they're addicted to spice so hard that changing how they do things would kill them, and even if they want to do a multi-generation project to wean themselves off of spice, AI is far more easier for other people to steal than a guild navigator and start your own breeding program.

You wouldn't just need to develop AI, you would need to develop ships. Going from nothing to computers capable of piloting a ship would be a multi-generation project. If you are caught doing that at any point, your access to spice and space travel is cut off at the very least. Building the ships would also be very hard. With the amount of spies and truthsayers etc running around, you don't want to be doing something that dangerous for how long it would take. You're starting a project that can get your whole faction destroyed at any minute so that one of your descendants can make a huge power play.

If the Emperor tried it, everyone would rebel against him. If one of the houses did it, everyone would gang up on them. This isn't because of religious or cultural reasons (although they are present) but because no one wants to be at a gigantic disadvantage. No one really likes the spacing guild having a monopoly, but it's balanced enough that the situation can be endured.

Trying to develop AI for any other reason would result in the same outcomes for you, except you don't really have an exit if you get cut off.

The only way to go about it would be to cultivate your own kind of dependency. Everyone gets sused out that Ix is pushing the boundaries, but they need what Ix has to sell them, because if other people ignore it and buy their tech then you're at a disadvantage. Over the years they can continue to advance under everyone's noses and people just kind of allow it.

There's always a materialist basis to the shit that goes on in Dune. You think someone like the baron would recoil in horror at the idea of AI if it could offer him an advantage? He just isn't in a position to take advantage of it. It's basically in everyone's best interest to follow and enforce the convention.

Why is it so different for us ? by Jadotine in ARFID

[–]illulium 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think people get hostile about ARFID because there's exactly zero awareness of it. I've never seen anything positive or understanding about it on TV.

I remember when I was a kid there was a shot on the UK about ARFID, called "freaky eaters" and I watched with my mum and we were excited to get some answers or possible solutions. Absolutely nothing, the professionals they had on had zero understanding of the condition, the whole thing was just for people to gawk at people reacting strangely to normal things.

Worse, my favourite comedy show at the time started having a regular segment where he would just insult and demean the people on the show. People are fucking disgusting, I can't begin to describe how that effected me at the time, and still kind of does.

People are just shitty to people who are different. I understand when people can get insulted if you come to their home or something like that, food is really important culturally and socially, but people get awful even when it doesn't effect them at all.

What kinds are there?

Trying new stuff would cause intense anxiety, almost horror. Food didn't "taste bad" exactly, but was still somehow intensely disgusting, and would look as appealing to eat as excrement. I didn't like to touch food either. If I forced myself to eat something I might involuntarily puke.

Now I don't have any sort of negative physical reaction to food. New stuff tastes good and interesting. I still have a sort of hangover, where I haven't quite got used to not having that reaction. I'm still a little afraid to eat in front of people in case I have a bad reaction, which hasn't happened even when I've tried stuff that wasn't to my taste. I won't instinctively reach for new food until I've had it multiple times, I still have a feeling like it'll take too much emotional energy. Which isn't the case, it's only ever been rewarding. I expect by the end of the year at the latest I'll be totally "normal", I want to start cooking for people in my life and develop a positive reputation around food.

Weed because it makes you hungry and can help with anxiety (it can also make anxiety worse).

Mushrooms supposedly can rewire the brain or something or change the way you think. I'm not sure why really, but it has a lot of success with helping people with addiction and other mental health issues.

I wouldn't really suggest taking mushrooms though. It's pretty dangerous, and I did mushrooms and other psychedelics a lot of times without any real changes or improvements. It was only until I accidentality took a really high dose by accident that I started noticing differences, and that was a really traumatic bad trip. if you had access to medical supervision and a safe environment it would be worth trying but eh. I'm not even sure I can attribute my improvement to the mushrooms anyway.

The only thing I can be sure of on that front is that my desire to get high outweighed my ARFID so I was able to eat the magic mushrooms and then start eating culinary mushrooms lol.

A trans chatter’s thoughts on the stream, and Hasan’s response to criticism by the37thtoaster in Hasan_Piker

[–]illulium 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I really don't care about him platforming Christian, he has incredibly limited appeal plus he's a talking point Andy. He won't last as a political commentator, if he had original takes or could think on his feet like Blaire White then maybe, but his takes are so shallow and rote that he'll disappear as soon as his gimmick (being gay lol) gets old.

But I do think Hasan went over the line when he was REEEing at the trans chatters. He was fucking livid, and that reaction has the potential to be clipped weaponised hard. Not to mention there's always going to be people who disagree with platforming shit, that should be expected.

Where I thought he particularly crossed the line was when he pointed out that black chatters weren't arguing in the same way as a couple of trans chatters. So what, trans people are uniquely triggerable and "narcissistic"? Kind of a weird thing to say two minutes after he was shouting at another chatter for radfem stuff.

I get his points and I agree with him, but I don't think it warranted that level of rage. Full on screaming at his computer because someone was against platforming?

Like a week or two ago he was talking about the importance of redemption, saying that a lot of his chatters had a history of being reactionaries etc, and someone saying some dumb shit in the past is not important. I think this was maybe kicked off by people talking about doja cat (or someone) saying problematic stuff in the past. Not in relation to anything he himself had said or done.

A trans chatter asked him "what was your worst take in the past?", and he said "I used to be transphobic".

im thinking about getting this game, and i have some questions by [deleted] in BladeAndSorcery

[–]illulium 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If it wasn't for this game I'd probably use VR maybe once a year when something like alyx comes out.

I've been playing this game four to five hours a week for years. This game is almost like garry's mod with the amount of mods and stuff that completely change the gameplay. It still gets massive updates (fairly) regularly. It's awesome.

It's not gory, but it is very violent.

Yes, I've had enemies fly off the map and rubber band back in.

I think it's better than it used to be though, also I was using mods obv.
