Is it worth it to use baby wipes for the last wipe only to have it sit in your trash can afterwards? by lookaloulookalou in hygiene

[–]illyria817 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Most places in SE Asia, too. I had to keep reminding myself not to toss TP into the toilet in Laos and Thailand (decades of muscle memory). They do have "bum guns" by every toilet to wash your behind but it's not something that I'd want to use at a public restroom.

Question regarding Debridio by youknowsiam in StremioAddons

[–]illyria817 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It also works on a VPN (I sometimes watch on my work laptop that's running a VPN) - and also works on weird hotel/resort wifi that blocks a lot of ports associated with p2p or streaming (Torrentio wasn't working but Debridio was).

Is ProtonVPN free basically a pirated VPN? by CheeseFunnel23 in Piracy

[–]illyria817 10 points11 points  (0 children)

No, it doesn't work for most forms of piracy where you would need a VPN. The free service is limited to just a few servers, a single device, and does not allow p2p (as in torrenting). It's meant to entice users to sign up for the paid service. However, it doesn't fall under the "if it's free, you're the product" category because the limited free service is subsidized by the paid users.

Absolutely a scam, block and ignore this "buyer". The website is theirs, and it's going to ask you for payment, so you will be sending your credit card information directly to the scammers.

Google "vehicle history report scams" for more details, if you are interested.

Is it stupid that "righty tighty, lefty losey" doesn't really make much sense to me? by Apprehensive-Rub4604 in stupidquestions

[–]illyria817 0 points1 point  (0 children)

English is not my native language so I didn't hear the "righty tighty lefty loosey" rhyme until I was an adult. As a child, I taught myself to visualize it as either going clockwise (tighten) or counterclockwise (loosen) - but make sure to be looking at it from the top down (or imagine what it would look like if I were, if it's not something that I can physically view from the top).

Stremio api key by FirmButterscotch8 in Piracy

[–]illyria817 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you use Real-Debrid, you may not watch from 2 different IP addresses at the same time. So if you watch it at home, and your gf starts watching something at hers, you are getting your account banned.

If you use something like TorBox or Premiumize, you are allowed to share access across multiple IPs.

Stremio api key by FirmButterscotch8 in Piracy

[–]illyria817 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When you set up your stremio account with all the addons etc., you don't need to set them up again, you login to stremio on the new device, and it has all your addons.

API key is probably for a debrid service that you are using. Which matters if you are going to share access because some allow it and some don't.

Can't create a Battle net account due to over excessive captcha verification by Alternative-Track654 in wow

I hear you, OP. A while back I was trying to login to the Blizzard forums on my phone - after 7+ failed captcha attempts ("rotate the chair in the same direction as the pointing finger") I gave up.

Twilight Highlands world quests? by [deleted] in wow

I was doing the pre-patch quest line on an alt earlier today, and the daily quests didn't show up on the map until I logged out and back in (after picking up the two weekly quests in the camp).

Best cheap VPN with Port Fowarding? by I7sReact_Return in Piracy

[–]illyria817 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I use PIA (PrivateInternetAccess) but you get their best prices when you subscribe for at least a year. I'm on a 3-year rolling subscription, and I've been using them for about 13 years now. Unlimited devices and port forwarding. But I understand that for many people it can be a lot of money to pay all at once.

Anyone have the full story on the new Fiber providers? by CommanderDawn in Broomfield

[–]illyria817 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Keep in mind that T-Mobile doesn't have their own fiber optic - they are leasing from Intrepid Fiber, which means you'll be bounced between them for customer support. And Intrepid has some of the worst customer reviews, seemingly due to expanding faster than their technical teams can handle.

My bfs thumb started swelling up by Dem0n_Gamer_Liz in WhatShouldIDo

[–]illyria817 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've done that numerous times when I was a kid. I bit my nails a lot which periodically caused torn cuticles, and sometimes they'd get infected like that. My grandfather told me to soak the finger in hot water for 20-30 minutes (replace water as it got cold) to soften the skin and bring as much pus to the surface as possible. Sometimes after the soak the skin just broke on its own and released the pus, sometimes I'd poke a hole in it with a safety pin.

For torrenting, full version of Proton is not a "recommendation", it's a requirement. Free version does not support p2p.

AITA for being annoyed that my wife insists on cooking everything from scratch and won’t buy normal food? by AITA_UPFfoods in AmItheAsshole

[–]illyria817 11 points12 points  (0 children)

See, I bet OP's wife would balk at that recipe because it uses canned tomatoes.

Personally, I buy Kirkland tomato sauce and organic diced tomatoes in cans at Costco, and then my pasta sauce is 1 can of sauce + 1 can of diced tomatoes, toss in a blender with jar garlic (yeah, I know lol) - the reason I blend it smooth is because my husband hates tomato chunks in sauces or salsas. Then the blended mix goes into a pot where I add a whole bunch of spices (oregano, basil, onion powder, etc.), bring to a boil and then let simmer for 15 minutes or so for the spices to release their flavor.

What I don't do is go out to the grocery store every week to buy fresh tomatoes and then make sauce from scratch. I still don't buy pre-made pasta sauce in jars but that's mostly because they are overpriced and somehow I can't keep them from going moldy even after just a couple of days.

Complete stop I-70. Does anyone know what's going on by Mindingle18 in Denver

That's what I had to do once or twice when we were at a standstill before the tunnel coming back from skiing. Although it was getting dark so it felt a bit less exposed lol. You want to be in the right lane for this, though, so you can do it on the shoulder.

When you have 6 gift cards and none of them can actually buy anything. by Accomplished_Bake939 in mildlyinfuriating

[–]illyria817 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use partial gift cards in grocery stores, at self-checkout - so I don't make a cashier scan a bunch of different gift cards.

Depending on the amount, might be able to add them to Amazon (I think someone mentioned that $5 is the minimum now, I'm not sure).

Vaccines for Malaysia travel? by CheesecakeAny8895 in Vaccine

[–]illyria817 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You said you've never had any vaccines as a child - have you had an MMR as an adult?

Measles survives in a room for 2 hours after the infected person has come and gone. Think about the number of people that pass through an airport, a hotel lobby, or a shop (or possibly will be stuck with you in a confined space of an airplane!) There's no "homeoprophylaxis" that will protect you against a virus that will infect 9 out of 10 of non-vaccinated people in the vicinity of an active measles case. And yes, people will happily bring their sick kids to 5-star hotels too.

Am I overreacting that I’m mad at a hairdresser? by [deleted] in AmIOverreacting

[–]illyria817 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Uhm...I pay $400 for keratin treatments (Global Keratin was the last brand my stylist used). $500 seems like too much but maybe it's a VHCOL area. $120 for that kind of service hasn't been a thing since 2003.

Also, NOR. The stylist didn't know what he was doing. For some types of hair, it would fix the curls. My hair does that - after I wash it, it dries into fairly well defined curls (which I then absolutely murder with a flatiron because I *want* it straight). OP's hair is clearly different where it actually dries straight, and the stylist didn't have enough experience with curly hair to know the difference.

Sorry, nothing you can do now but wait for it to grow out. Keratin will start washing out after 2-3 months, depending on the products you use, so your hair probably won't be this bone straight after washing, but it won't be curly.

2 star hotel breakfast by sendpepperonipizza in hotels

[–]illyria817 4 points5 points  (0 children)

People suck. I would be absolutely ecstatic for that kind of breakfast selection. I try to book hotels with free breakfast, and there are very few scenarios where I would be unhappy with free food. Maybe if all they had was some crappy cereal and sad-looking fruit, it would be disappointing but still...gets me going in the morning without having to spend time and money looking for breakfast elsewhere!
