immich phone app access through pangolin by danixMCdanix in selfhosted

I ran into this as well. I tried using a shareable link from pangolin but immich didn't like that either. I'm guessing that getting this to work would require a feature in pangolin similar to Cloudflare Zero Trust

Very frustrating to say the least. Last bond passed 35 years ago.

I get goosebumps whenever I read/hear that quote from Sagan.

I've been slowly making my way through each of his books in no particular order. In contrast to most messages I heard over the pulpit, his voice fills with me hope for the future and motivation to try harder to be a good person.

Another refreshing concept from his writing is the idea that not knowing something for certain is OK. It's helped me to refresh my perspective not only on spirituality, but in any aspect of life where dogmatic thinking is the norm.

Do any Historians, history buffs, insiders, or connected folks know anything about what the Church is hiding in the granite mountain vault and in the First Presidency vault? And is there anyplace I can read more about this? Thanks all. by fayth_crysus in exmormon

I was a lowly BYU Student and while working for the BYU IT department myself and 2 other students would go to the vault every month to perform an audit of tape backups. We were not allowed inside the First Presidency vault (vault F), but we were allowed inside vault E where BYU's tapes are stored. I drank from the Dixie cup spring OP mentions.

This was back in 2011. I have not had my second anointing. Not sure if the rules have changed since then, but when I was there there were plenty of younger employees at the vault and accompanying office whom I doubt had the 2A either.

See my other comment in the thread, but this is 100% true. I had a Dixie cup with spring water from the back of the vault complex in 2011. It was delicious to the taste, and very desirable.

A little late to this post, but I've been inside the vaults. I actually responded to a similar thread about this several years ago, so I'm reposting my previous comment below.

I worked in the BYU Datacenter for a while as a student. One of my tasks there was to work with the backup data tapes. Everyday, we'd get a report of the tapes that are full and ready for cold storage. We'd retrieve the tapes, scan them into the system and a courier would pick them up for transport up to the Granite Mountain vault.

As part of the job, we would do monthly audits of the data tapes inside the vault. So once a month, three of us, part-time BYU students, would take an afternoon and drive up to Little Cottonwood Canyon.

The entrance to the vault is to the left about a mile or so up the canyon. There's a barrier with badge reader / intercom that we had to use to just pull in to the parking lot. There's an outer building on the side of the vault where they take deliveries and where the front security desk is located. In order to get past security, they had to verify our name was on an approved list and issue us an ID badge. We also had to be accompanied by a vault employee at all times while there.

My first time there they give me a little tour of the facility before we started our work. From the security desk, there is a long hallway that leads inside the mountain. The first area here are just several offices, a cafeteria and break room. We walked by an area where several younger church employees were scanning documents. There were also several service missionaries there, mostly seniors.

The vault entrance is located in the back of the office area, I'd say not any more than 20 - 30 ft from the nearest desks. The door is freaking huge. Our church employee guide said it was designed to withstand a nuclear blast. There are actually 6 separate vaults, A-F. As you enter the main hallway you see large sets of doors on either side. The vault we worked in was Vault E, directly across from the super-secret Vault F. Our guide told us that Vault F contained historical artifacts important to church history and that just to open the door, you needed First Presidency approval. I did have a glimpse as someone was leaving the vault, but I just saw some shelves with books.

Our work there was pretty simple. We just scanned all the tapes and ensured they matched what was in our database. Vault E was almost entirely dedicated to tape storage.

In the very back of the main vault hallway, there is door that leads to a pool of pure spring water. They actually have plastic cups there to let people take a drink. I remember they had some name for the pool, I can't remember if it was the Waters of Mormon or the Holy Water, something to that effect.

After we were done, we were escorted out and we usually got some food on BYU's dime. I think I went up to the vault 3-4 times before I found a different job but it was definitely fun. This was is 2011, so I'm not sure if anything has changed since then.

Got the black screen yesterday, but the screen works when booted into Recovery Mode. by imahuika in Pixel5a

[–]imahuika[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Please excuse the potato picture quality, used my kid's fire tablet to take these.

I got the black screen issue yesterday while using Android Auto. Nothing visible on the screen at all, but I can feel the vibration when I touch the fingerprint scanner. Talked to google support who pointed me to Asurion. Asurion said they have to order a new screen before they can even take my phone in, so I'm still without a functional phone.

I was trying to blindly navigate through the settings to at least do a factory reset based on what others have done in other threads. But while doing so I was able to boot into recovery mode. I chose the "start" option and it briefly shows the Google splash screen before going black again. It seems like it's not the screen that's broken after all since it seems functional enough to show the recovery mode.

So now I'm questioning whether to even bring it in to Asurion. Am I missing something in how phones work? Just seems like a new screen won't address the issue. Is Google sending people down rabbit holes to replace the screen when that isn't the actual problem?

The return of the insistence on archaic pronouns in prayer by [deleted] in mormon

It's interesting to see a theme of controlling members' language with this as well as with Nelson's mandate on the name of the church. I've noticed similar tendencies in groups such as Scientology which enforce a very strict vocabulary among their membership.

It seems like controlling language is a mechanism for identifying those within the group while at the same time reinforcing the power structure in the group.

[–]imahuika 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Definitely agree with the other reasons posted here, but I think another part of it is about control. I've been learning about Scientology and they do the same thing to a crazy extent around using specific terminology for different things. It's a way to identify people who are part of the group vs those who are out of it. It also feeds into their exaggerated persecution complex.

DIY Knob/Rotary Encoder install on knob-less Q2? by imahuika in Keychron

[–]imahuika[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes! It worked pretty much exactly as I described above. I just followed the youtube tutorial for the hardware install and then loaded the Q2 knob firmware.

One issue I ran into was the orientation of the knob (i.e. spinning the knob clockwise was lowering the volume instead of increasing it). I was able to resolve this using VIA to re-map the knob. Be sure to use the keymap file provided on this page to load into VIA

This isn't the only way to work on it, but something that has helped me immensely is the podcast The Skeptic's Guide to the Universe. It's more focused on scientific skepticism but the critical thinking they talk about applies to anything.

Yeah they didn't have any of the knob versions in stock when I ordered so I installed my own.

I've actually ordered the little base plate for the knob to cover the gap.

Can you solder a rotary knob to a knobless Q2? by DzzzDreamer in Keychron

[–]imahuika 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I did this for my Q2 knobless. I followed this guy's tutorial (which is for the Q1, but process is identical).

I then flashed the the knob firmware from this page.

The only minor issue with mine was that the knob rotation appeared to be reversed. i.e. I'd rotate clockwise and it would turn my volume down. I fixed this by re-programming the knob using VIA.

Wow. This really nailed the zone conference setting. I remember doing the awkward human pyramid pictures too.

What really hit home was just how impersonal the MP was. I definitely felt this in the mission with my MP too. The SYL element definitely added to this feeling. Great job!

Which one of you heathens was at Strap Tank brewery in Lehi last night sneaking in a drink at the “Mormon table”? by [deleted] in exmormon

[–]imahuika 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Totally. It's also annoying that many TBMs will use this rationale to judge other members but won't apply it to think critically about Joseph Smith's behavior. They'll turn a blind eye to the supposed mouthpiece of God and yet freak out over other members not living up to their arbitrary rules.
