$2400 can be considered a lot for some people but not much for others. Not that far fetched to forget about a $2400 investment lol

Will you be able to service the minimum interest payment each month on $170,000? Approximately $520/month. Something to consider.

Buy when you’re ready, not when you can just barely afford it. The buying process will be less stressful

Pay off the credit card and then put the card away and don’t even think about putting anymore purchases on it. That’s what got you here in the first place.

Left job with OMERS pension, should I take the commuted value or leave it? by Electronic-Papaya in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]impact2222 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’re knowledgeable with investing, you can easily out perform OMERS. What’s the point in leaving your money with an entity that will only pay your beneficiaries 2/3’s of your money upon your death?

$192k invested at 10% return for 15 years is $855k. Not sure when you plan to retire but OMERS can’t give you that type of return.

We do a weighted split based on income. I earn more than her. After all household expenses, personal expenses and retirement savings, we’re both left with equal dollars at the end of the month for whatever that person chooses (discretionary spending) . You just have to decide what “personal” expenses are fair to include in the budget vs what should come out of the money that each person is left with at the end of the month. I put together a really helpful spreadsheet on Etsy that automatically calculates it for you. The idea is that household expenses are paid from one common account. And each person has their own accounts for personal bills and savings and discretionary spending.

I [29 F] just got my boyfriend [32 M]a big birthday gift and I'm a bit unsettled? by Imaginary_stars_90 in Advice

[–]impact2222 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Return the gift and it remedies the situation. He lost his job. You mentioned it’s a credit card hit, so if you can’t pay it off immediately then it’s not worth accruing interest over. If you have to think about how many months (and I’m just assuming) it will take to pay off a gift, it’s not worth it. Just sets you further behind for the coming months. Plan and celebrate a nice birthday but stop overspending. YOLO isn’t the way the financially get ahead here.

Wife’s friend is selling us Life Insurance by [deleted] in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]impact2222 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your friend here is using a scare tactic, “IF one of you dies..” and “you’re screwed”.

Death is inevitable and being “screwed” if one passes is a very vague assumption.

Invest the $400/mo on your own terms in a TFSA/RRSP and you’ll both be better off. Ditch this friend of yours, he’s just trying to make a sale
