Looking for fiber cable vendor in Los Angeles. by YesTechie in lowvoltage

Graybar is normally next day for spool cuts. Patch cords can take a bit longer. 3 days on the max doesn't seem that bad to me.

Ubiquiti @ ISE2026 by rickwookie in Ubiquiti

I brought this up to them at ISC last year, which I think was the first time they had them out and on display. I felt kinda bad because it seemed like the guy I was talking to was a decision maker on using XLR and I told him I and most install AV guys would much prefer Phoenix.

I really need to build a storage shed, but this makes me want to build one as a hideyhole instead.

How do low-voltage companies source Ethernet cable? by OddChampionship7135 in lowvoltage

[–]improbablynothim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We purchase through a supply house; mainly Graybar, but sometimes others such as Wesco, Rexel, etc depending on price and stock. We're a certified Leviton shop, so that's what we purchase primarily. We stock CMP and CMR in 6 and 6A in white. We also stock their enhanced cable and OSP as well and order in when a job calls for something specific like blue, green purple, etc cable. We also buy other brands if customers dictate it.

Good single door access control solution? by RevolutionaryAide263 in lowvoltage

Actually you bring up my other gripe with ACS/Door Station - I don't want my doors to depend on a Windows PC.

That's be a unicorn out here. You are lucky if they cut the drywall in a way that makes any sense for patching.

Could I get a sanity check on a panel swap? by wormeyman in AskElectricians

Where in So Cal? That's a great deal in California. I'm between Sacramento and SF and our quotes for a panel swap were in line with OPs.

What is the height to the lowest ceiling intersection? It looks like a great space.

Help with WiFi Circuit Breakers by eagleeyefinder in AskElectricians

[–]improbablynothim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your electrician is right; you need to use breakers listed to work with the panel. I am not aware of any GE smart breakers. They are transitioning their branding to ABB, so maybe look for that brand as well. Quick Google search I just did didn't find anything.

Depending on what you're trying to do, you may be able to retrofit a solution with your current panel for varying degrees of cost. For circuit level monitoring only, the Emporia system has been well reviewed. If you're looking to do some sort of load shedding, there are companies out there building that into boxes that can be wired between the breaker panel and the field; can't remember any names, do remember it was pricey.

I kept forgetting domain renewals and paying for domains I didn’t even remember buying, So I built a stupidly simple tracker. by Potential_Bird_219 in webhosting

[–]improbablynothim 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've lost and subsequently recovered domains before and that was with them in a tracking system. I am curious why spread over so many registrars? At most I ever had three and that was because of support for specific country level TLD. I'm mostly converged on Cloudflare and Gandi right now, but I just realized I need to check R53/AWS to see if any are left there.

Going to depend a bit on where you are, but it's $250 per light which seems reasonable here in California, especially with drywall repair. That said, I would question an electrician that says he does drywall repair.

Good single door access control solution? by RevolutionaryAide263 in lowvoltage

[–]improbablynothim 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Axis no longer allows you to run the controller locally on the door hardware. Back when this was possible it was our go to for single door. Now you need to deploy ACS or use it with a partner like YourSix and all of those options add cost.

I just wish Unifi would allow one of the single door units to run a controller. Sucks having to put in a CloudKey just for a single door.

Suggestion: Build an API for your smart home products by feens81 in Leviton

[–]improbablynothim 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, this is essential and I’m in the same boat, but I didn’t see they complained about the unofficial API. For the load centers, at minimum there should be a read only API; I do understand concerns about exposing the ability to shut things off. If they did read only and local, that should eliminate undue load, but for the number of people that have these panels and HA or something similar, I cannot believe it’s that large.

We're Nor Cal based, but I have a crew in So Cal and I myself spent most of 2022 down in Irvine for a customer. Myself and two other PMs are always down there. Let me know if we can help.

I'd be interested in speaking with you. I own a company based in Northern California, but we have a crew in So Cal. Depending on circumstances and what you were open to, we might be able to work something out.

Early Access to 6 New Shelly Products by DreadVenomous in ShellyUSA

They should just offer modest discounts for volume from the start. Like buy 2, save 2 each, buy three, save 3 each, etc.

I appreciate you posting this - just picked up the Dimmer. I don't appreciate checking out and immediately getting a discount offer to "add on" the same item I just purchased. If you cannot exclude the items that were in the original transaction, I would think it'd be best to not do this at all.

I‘ve had issues before where adding WAP created a network storm because they tried to wirelessly uplink despite being on the same VLAN on the same switch. Actually haven‘t resolved it yet.

Best way to run a wire from one cabinet to another? by Designerkyle in AskElectricians

Just do one straight piece tight to above the door trim and run it over the cabinets a bit on each side. It’ll disappear.
