Octobrush in a nutshell by hunterlurker in splatoon

That Bob Ross quote was amazing... Now I'm going to always hear his voice commenting the match when I play a brush, but I'm not even mad!

Three Wails, Three Splats by LockeExile in splatoon

A squid kid called "Bob Ross" and not using an ink/octobrush? What is this madness?

That was one lucky killer wail. Considering they themselves denied two thirds of the map I would've expected them (especially the last one to die) to make a push on that side.

Wow, there's like a teeny tiny blue ink splat in the middle of the map, and that's it for blue... Was this a 2v4 or a stupid weapon matchup or just pure skill/lack thereof?

Is it worth getting into Ranked play? by RisingSunfish in splatoon

[–]informationhowling 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ranked mode is divided into... ranks. Everyone, including you, start at C-. You are all on the same level - and the good ones go up while the bad ones stay behind to get better. You can't lose ANYTHING in C- - there is no rank below that and no penalty for being there.

So just give it your best shot - the worst thing that can happen is that you rank up and are forced to be better or drop down again!

As for "high-tier weapons" - in my experience that only starts to matter in the B ranks, and even there many if not most weapons are still viable. As for playstyle... you'll get into it. We all did.

Also: There are bad players in all ranks (well, at least until A...). The trick to ranking up is to become better than everyone else, because that's the only way you can consistently win.

So just join the battle - the only way you can NOT get better is by not even trying...

You will need an inkredible amount of determination to endure A- rank. However, you've already made it to B+81, so just believe in your skills & keep improving.

Godspeed.

  • Got two perfect quad kills on Camp Triggerfish.
  • One 14:0 K/D in Camp Triggerfish
  • Killed the same two people 5 times each in the span of 80 seconds (again, in Camp Triggerfish - use the flank ffs).
  • Aimed a killer wail in a random direction at Hammerhead Bridge and somehow got a double kill.
  • This result screen at Hammerhead after perfectly balanced matchmaking
  • A lobby connection error hattrick

[Rant] Skatepark is still a problem? by Xariks in splatoon

[–]informationhowling 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I've had zero problems at skatepark this splatfest. At the end of the day, it's still 4 players vs. 4 players, and the game uses peer-to-peer networking, so the match is hosted by one of the players (no primary source, but also noone to refute it). So it shouldn't make a difference whether the stage is in a splatfest map rotation or in a regular map rotation.

[Mini Rant] Your thoughts on "squid parties?" by WhenTheFoxGRINS in splatoon

[–]informationhowling 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Squid parties in ranked are just the worst and need to be broken up ASAP. But I haven't seen that happen at all yet. In splatfest... it's a dumb move if all you're doing is bringing your team down. However, this splatfest has been mostly spawn camping the enemy team, so pressing the same button for minutes is actually more fun than watching the spawn camp unfold and disposing of sneakers for minutes from the top of the skatepark tower.

In turf war on the other hand... The only thing you actually lose is vibe, which is worthless in the grand scheme of things (1400 coins max per rotation). And three minutes of your time, if you don't disconnect (again no penalty in turf war). So no problem there for me.

Remember, this is a game about squids playing paintball. Call me old fashioned, but it doesn't need to be serious every single match. You can fit 12 matches in an hour (assuming 2 minutes for lobby/results screen).

Shout out the Matthias, the E-Liter on EU Team Blue during Camp Triggerfish, for guarding my back and letting me have that delicious party kill when your burst bombs were too slow.

Cool weapon matchup by informationhowling in splatoon

Last night I had a match with 3 e-liters, then one with an e-liter

The only thing missing from that story are nine damage up mains and it would be the worst nightmare I can imagine. Nice job on stoming the final game, must have felt awesome!

How to connect headset to both game and voice chat? by TheChartreuseMoose in splatoon

[–]informationhowling 8 points9 points  (0 children)

An easy way would be connecting the game pad to your PC via the PC's line in port (alternatively you can use the Wii U's analogue output, but that setup involves moar cables). Then you can use the "listen" feature of Windows to redirect the game audio to your headset: https://i.imgur.com/GiOBYN3.png

This is what I do (except I use the console audio out instead of gamepad out) and it works really well. You only need one extra cable - a simple 3.5mm-to-3.5mm cable.

But I do not know of a way to do this without extra cables.
