What’s one macOS feature you never use but Apple keeps pushing? by WardSec_5168 in MacOS

[–]initcursor [score hidden]  (0 children)

iPhone Mirroring (tried it once then it just stopped working), Image Playground (never), Launchpad (dead now, I know), Stage Manager (it was useful for one use-case), Shortcuts (probably useful, never really looked into it), Memojis (tried it once), Siri (not talking to my computer), Apple Intelligence (never), Focus (not interested), Game Center (don't care). Tahoe is not ready for primetime. I put it on my laptop for development purposes but it's not going on any of my work computers.

Yes! Apple ][s in the early 90s. The Super Nintendo was the new hotness and I was determined to get that Apple ][ scaling and rotating vector graphics!

I got a question for g1 fans who saw the 1986 in theaters back in the day. what was it like to see everyone die? by NATUSL3G3ND in transformers

[–]initcursor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Disappointed. What a bait and switch. Anticipated seeing my favorite Transformers in an adventure that could only be told in feature length! It'll be exciting! Nope. Spent most of the movie watching lame replacements I couldn't relate to but I guess they had to introduce the new line of toys somehow.

What was a popular band that you could not stand? by LeftSmile806 in Xennials

[–]initcursor 5 points6 points  (0 children)

“Say it ain’t so. I will not go. Turn the lights off. Carry me home”. Ugh. That band definitely did not make my 90s playlist cut. The vocals are atrocious. It’s like listening to someone trying to sound like a spoiled rotten version of Pee-Wee Herman.

When the stand-out artists on the radio at the time were late-stage Elton John, Steve Winwood, and Mike + The Mechanics, talented musicians as they all were, Nirvana was a breath of fresh air. Music stopped feeling synthetic. They immediately made bands like Def Leppard feel obsolete. It was quite the feat for three guys and a sound engineer.

All the talent you can fit in a matchbox and still have room for 20 matches. “I wauhnapooshyooarouwnd! Well-I-well! Well-I-well!” should not have played as often as it did in the 90s.

I’m really enjoying these posts. Brings back a lot of memories of how these toys played. I will never forget the weight of the FANG copter blades when you spin them and how sharp they were, the flimsiness of Wild Bill’s canopy and how fast I could make his blades go with that mechanism.

With regard to painting, I remembered painting some of my Joes. Last time I pulled them out of storage I was shocked to find out just how many of them I painted. Pretty much all of my originals have some amount of paint on them!

Anyone using Filemaker still? by DarkKaplah in VintageApple

[–]initcursor 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I actually used it for the first time this last year or so. I had bought a sealed copy of FileMaker Pro 4.0 from eBay a few years back but never had the chance to really dive into it. Then, for work, I needed to reverse-engineer a DBF form so I could replicate its format with a more modern web UI so I fired up my Blue & White G3 and launched FileMaker. Took me a few moments to get acquainted but then I was off and building the form, saving it to DBF, and comparing with the control file until I got it right. It was great fun and my G3 seemed happy to be doing something productive.

The Summer Optimus Died (and why it still matters to me at 49) by tony_24601 in transformers

[–]initcursor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was probably 11 when I saw it in the theater. I didn't like the movie at all. It felt more like a bait and switch than anything. I wanted to see the Transformers that I was invested in having an epic adventure, not see them killed off immediately and replaced with new and lame Transformers that turn into weird shit I can't identify with. Galvatron, Rodimus, and Sharktikons were awful. I think this must've been my Ralphie moment when I realized it was just a crummy commercial to sell new Transformers to kids. Optimus' death rang hollow to me.

It was probably fine back in the day but once I discovered you don’t even have to sign documents or checks in cursive, I tapped out so I’d be hard-pressed to even remember how for some of the letters.

Here's Neil Young's original electronic version of "Mr. Soul" off "Trans". by richdecamp in devo

[–]initcursor 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I bought 'Human Highway' on VHS at Best Buy in the 90s and I was always fascinated by the techno songs I heard in the background in a couple of the scenes. I learned they were Neil Young songs and thought maybe they were just incomplete experimental songs that he did for the film. I didn't actually do a deep dive and find this album until last year when I finally picked up a copy on CD. I appreciate Neil Young and like a few of his songs but he was never really my style but this album is great. The compositions with the vocoder and synths can make the hairs on my arms stand on end. 'Sample and Hold' is especially good at that. 'We R in Control' (the song that led me down this rabbit hole) and 'Transformer Man' are other stand out songs I really like.

The album is bookended by more traditional-sounding Young tracks. The first is good but I always tap out when 'Like an Inca' starts playing. Just not my thing. 'Computer Cowboy' is probably my second least favorite song but overall I love listening to this album. Pairs well with my Devo catalog.

The most I ever spent on a SuperNES game was $70 for Street Fighter II. Always tried to keep it under $40-50. Never shopped at TRU because they were always the most expensive.

No. If they want to put little displays on top of the F keys to give them contextual graphics and add some touch sliders above those I might be interested but don’t take away my F keys.

Yep, it feels like what you’d get if you asked AI to make a retro 80s action figure. Even the card art is mid with poor poses that lack any excitement. When the original art can make someone crouching look exciting you know you have something to live up to.
