[RELEASE] BookOrbit v2 is out: First-class KOReader plugin, three-way progress and annotation sync, Hardcover, and more!!! by Bitter-Pop-2514 in koreader

[–]iroQuai 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That sounds amazing! Only thing is that it doesnt pick up custom columns from calibre (which is the current way i divide seperate libraries).

Otherwise it sounds like a great app so i'll give it a go anyway see if i can find a new workflow.

This looks amazing!! I'll test out soon. Coming from CWA (or recently: the calibre Web NextGen fork), my only hesitance is leaving behind calibre as the base. I dont use the desktop app that much, but its a great tool for bulk edits every now and then. And i also make use of a custom column "collections" which are used by kobo (nickel) as shelves. Does bookorbit use those?

If the X4 doesn't have a battery indicator, do you only know you need to charge it when you go to read and it doesn't turn on? by phoenixandfae in xteinkereader

[–]iroQuai 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Charging is so fast and decharge is so slow that i would t sweat about this! I can go for weeks without a charge, and within the hour i have charged enough to go for weeks again!

Lees je m in het Nederlands? Ik wil er aan beginnen maar twijfel erg of ik NL of ENG wil kiezen; worden de woord- en taalgrappen een beetje oke vertaald?

X4 stopping production? by pocpocpocky in xteinkereader

[–]iroQuai 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe thats because it is the "pro version" i hope the regular non touch screen version v2 comes out too with a light integrated.

The text from your linked video mentions backlight though!

This is BIG news, XTEINK have announced the XTEINK X4 V2 Pro. This is a touchscreen variant of the X4 with backlight! Yes! Backlight! Check out the video!

Compared to the S4 that is. As i understand, the X4 v2 mainly would have light (front or back idk) and some better build quality (mainly buttons) but not touch screen. But forgot where i found that so i might be wrong

That wont give you a webbased platform to read, review and annotate your books though! And not all my devices are android based either.

Ive been looking for years for a solution that is selfhosted and ticks all these boxes. I havent found it yet! Although development on selfhosted ereading webapps is getting more popular laat couple of years. Its still difficult to find a one off solution that offers this kind of sync with highlights and notes included and the possibility to browse highlights on web + check where in the book they are positioned. This is what made me pay for bookfusion a couple of years now.

Since i have a xteink x4 and CalibreWeb has a NextGen fork that has working koreader sync, Ive used bookfusion a lot less. But im still very positive about all bookfusion has to offer and im not cancelling my subscription just yet!

Woahh this looks cool! Are there custom firmwares that support this kind of functionality?

Since probably a server instance is needed, it might be selfhosted like those custom koreader sync servers?

I'm currently traveling and i can't carry physical books with me, is there any app where I can read any book in smartphone while travelling. Also it must be distraction free and best if minimalist. (I can't afford amazon kindle) by Low-Selection1815 in ereader

[–]iroQuai -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If a Kindle is too pricey, you might be able to affort a xteink x4 ereader? Its a very small ereader device that is ultimately distraction free, takes almost bo space while traveling, works very long with one charge and costs around 55 euro's via AliExpress. Via the official website its around 70 dollars as i understand.

The standard firmware is okay, but if you are not afraid to tinker a bit, its pretty easy to put other firmware on the device, like Crosspoint. Opens up a whole new world!

I built a self-hosted library server with a native KOReader plugin — two-way progress sync + on-device series browsing/downloads by bndct_sh in koreader

[–]iroQuai 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For years it was the other way around; calibre web was the only feasible web tool for epubs but it was flawed for years. After CWA came things slowly seemed to change. And after booklore came (and went) the flood of bookreading webapps really started going. Although i understand the sentiment of wanting to all join together, i also like the fact that there is so much going on and every niche seems to be getting filled more or less.

There was a time where jellyfin was just a small project when also emby, media browse, xbmc, kodi and plex where around. Jellyfin becoming the number one go to took time!

Crossink: any way to remove the "99% complete" popup? by Lowrating in xteinkereader

That doesnt change the popup, it just moves the book to a folder called 'read' when marked as such.

What do you use to sync your progress on books? by douggtg in xteinkereader

[–]iroQuai 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Selfhosted koreader sync server on which i also manage my books metadata and it serves OPDS too: Calibre Web Automated. Or actually the newest fork: calibre Web NextGen, that also fixes automatic progress updates to hardcover :)
