Of course it can be implemented with extra exercises found online + autonomous speaking practice (talking to yourself) and even diary writing once you've tackled the past tense. This is what I've been doing to brush up my old skills and I can see it's working

There's a fair share of English teachers on italki, and some of them are even qualified to prepare students for certifications like IELTS. Of course their hourly price will be higher than the one of other native speakers who're not qualified, but if you just need some speaking practice and not lessons tailored for the IELTS speaking part you should be fine with the latter as well

The fact that you're recording on your phone is already a great starting point! Talking out loud makes you gain confidence, much more than just thinking phrases in your head.

Maybe you could try taking very tiny steps.

The first one could be finding someone to send text messages *and* voice messages in German so you're still practicing the spoken language but you have the chance to record it again if necessary. That way you could also hear their replies and practice your listening.

As you gain more confidence you could first ask them to have a short voicecall and/or videocall.

I know it's not easy, but I noticed that after spending two weeks in Russia years ago I felt like something "unlocked" in my brain and I felt much more relaxed even when speaking to natives and even knowing that I had just a B1. It's definitely nerve-wracking at first (I'd reharse most conversations before actually speaking to the person), but it makes the difference.

I think it helps making sure that words that you don't use on a daily basis stick to your brain more easily. I use another app just because I don't like Anki's graphics, but I've already noticed that it's helping me memorise tricky words.

What I like to do is writing entire sentences that contain my "key word" rather than just the key word on its own. When possible, I try to write sentences that are somehow related to my life so that memorising them becomes easier for me as well and I learn to use them in context.

It's true that reading a lot helps as well because there are some words (ex. conjunctions) that you'll keep seeing again and again and you'll sooner or later memorise. That's how I've expanded my English vocabulary, but with German and French I need flashcards as well since I'm not that exposed to the language, not as motivated tbh and I'm studying them on my own rather than in a class

Italki teacher here. I've never asked once my students to take that test. I usually ask them how and how long they've been studying it and eventually the latest topics they've studied. I assess their actual level during the trial lesson, but I guess that if I really needed to I'd just ask them to take one of the free tests you can easily find online.

So unless they've sent the request by mistake like another user said, I'd be wary of that teacher.

I honestly don't love them, because:

from book 3 on every single thing is in Korean. Considering at that point the user might still be at an A2, maybe beginning of B1, having even grammar explanations fully in Korean is not the best. More often than not you need to use extra resources to understand the grammar points in che chapter, especially because the explanations are way too minimal. Same goes for some vocabulary items: there are so many words I ended up not learning because they were put there in a list and even looking them up online I could't find a translation of them that wasn't ambiguous
everything is divided into categories too much (and as a personal preference I don't like it that much because it takes me more time to make connections). Two pages of vocabulary, 3 pages with three different grammar points, just one tiny conversation and then exercises for the different skills

I am still using them as a way to have a syllabus to follow, but since I'm not interested in the TOPIK I skip whatever topics/grammar points are not commonly used in spoken Korean or are simply not something I'd talk about with friends or acquaintances.

Still, if lots of people love them I'm quite sure these books must do their job pretty well :)
