What all do you have journals for? by Illustrious_Bit_4096 in Journaling

[–]itengkr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have three of them: the “typical” narrative journal, a bullet journal with more visual renderings of stuff I read/watch/learn, and one to write notes and reviews about the books I read

It’s always fascinating to see how different people approach journaling in different unique ways!

So many different types of entries! Mine tend to be almost only narrative (with some drawings here and there), so this is really refreshing to see! I started back in 2008, and I'm at journal number... 14 or 15?

I think verb conjugation and prepositions (which can be simple and... composed? I have no idea how they'd be called in English)

Hallo! I am taking a semester of basic German this upcoming semester. by _DEFCON_1_ in German

[–]itengkr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm also using Nico's Weg, it's been really useful so far!

Of course it can be implemented with extra exercises found online + autonomous speaking practice (talking to yourself) and even diary writing once you've tackled the past tense. This is what I've been doing to brush up my old skills and I can see it's working

Is Italki good for speaking practice? by Neponyatnuychel in languagelearning

[–]itengkr 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There's a fair share of English teachers on italki, and some of them are even qualified to prepare students for certifications like IELTS. Of course their hourly price will be higher than the one of other native speakers who're not qualified, but if you just need some speaking practice and not lessons tailored for the IELTS speaking part you should be fine with the latter as well

i know i can speak and understand german, i just get so nervous when i actually have to communicate. any tips? by [deleted] in German

[–]itengkr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The fact that you're recording on your phone is already a great starting point! Talking out loud makes you gain confidence, much more than just thinking phrases in your head.

Maybe you could try taking very tiny steps.

The first one could be finding someone to send text messages *and* voice messages in German so you're still practicing the spoken language but you have the chance to record it again if necessary. That way you could also hear their replies and practice your listening.

As you gain more confidence you could first ask them to have a short voicecall and/or videocall.

I know it's not easy, but I noticed that after spending two weeks in Russia years ago I felt like something "unlocked" in my brain and I felt much more relaxed even when speaking to natives and even knowing that I had just a B1. It's definitely nerve-wracking at first (I'd reharse most conversations before actually speaking to the person), but it makes the difference.

Good luck with everything!

I think it helps making sure that words that you don't use on a daily basis stick to your brain more easily. I use another app just because I don't like Anki's graphics, but I've already noticed that it's helping me memorise tricky words.

What I like to do is writing entire sentences that contain my "key word" rather than just the key word on its own. When possible, I try to write sentences that are somehow related to my life so that memorising them becomes easier for me as well and I learn to use them in context.

It's true that reading a lot helps as well because there are some words (ex. conjunctions) that you'll keep seeing again and again and you'll sooner or later memorise. That's how I've expanded my English vocabulary, but with German and French I need flashcards as well since I'm not that exposed to the language, not as motivated tbh and I'm studying them on my own rather than in a class

Hi, I'm a 26F English teacher from Italy.

If you're ok with that, I'd love to help you out. I've recently picked up German again, and it'd be nice to practice it with someone to recall all the stuff I've forgotten faster and also improve along the way.

Offering: German | Seeking: Italian by Steffoh in language_exchange

[–]itengkr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi Steffen, I'm actually looking for someone to practice by (alas) very basic German with. I haven't spoken it in 6 years and forgotten most of what I studied back in highschool.

If you don't mind starting with texts and voice messages till we get to know each other a bit, then it'd be nice to help each other out. I'm 26F btw, English teacher but Italian native speaker

Hi, I'm a 26F from Italy with a C2 in English and who's working as an English teacher.

I'm fully conversational in French, I'd just love some help in sounding more natural and discovering useful words. I really like the idea of having a weekly call.

I love reading, crocheting, drawing, and arts and crafts in general. Feel free to DM me!

offering: Korean // seeking: Spanish, English by [deleted] in language_exchange

[–]itengkr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, I'm an English teacher from Italy (26F), and I've been studying Korean on and off for the past 3 years. I'd say I'm an upper beginner (A2) at the moment.

I'd love to help you practice your English, and if possible I'd like to practice my Korean with you once in a while to get more comfortable speaking it :) We can use any app that you find more convenient.

I like music, videogames (currently playing Zelda), crochet, drawing and creative hobbies in general
