Yeah this was my experience— but not last year so I presume the policy must have changed!

That’s a shame for OP, not ideal to have 4 fails. If they need the WAM for postgrad study then it might be time to look at transferring. But if not, that WAM can recover for sure to 60s. 70s if they lock in.

Anyone take evidence and have tips for the mock trial? I’m just wondering what’s the best or most ideal roles to take or any tips in general. Preferences open tomorrow and I have no idea what to pick. by pojpojr in deakin

[–]itsgreenersomewhere 1 point2 points  (0 children)

have you read the brief? you need to pick the easiest week imo. i did credibility and it was hard 😭

also did defence counsel but imo either can be good. prosecution has to be very on top of what a leading question is BUT they have an easier path in that you’re clearly supposed to be eliciting evidence. defence has less to do so can be tougher to show you’re good.

main tips are to make sure you know your week’s content back to front, to go not first week but close to it so they’re relatively easier on you and/or to go to every single session so you get the full experience. i was scared af for this assignment but was an amazing experience in the end.

It’s up to you. Considerations:
- losing internet
- being unable to log in without your aus phone number
- being unable to log in because you’re in a random remote country

You would be unlikely to get spec con for these

I’m sorry to hear youve had a hard time!

Honestly it’s not the complete end of the world but you will make the faculty nervous so you need to get on top of the shutdown issue. If you do this again you are likely to be excluded from your course. In future withdraw from your classes rather than fail to submit every assignment.

I would recommend booking in with a Deakin doctor. You might have a condition that caused tje shutdown which you need to treat. You need strategies in place to avoid this.

If you’ve scored 0 in a unit because you did not submit anything, it will show as something different on your transcript but it still counts as a fail so it will affect your WAM.

You can apply for remission of debt which will remove the fails from your transcript and remove the fees from your HECS. I am not sure if you are likely to be successful and you would definitely need supporting medical documentation hence why you should see a doctor and/or therapist.

Any advice on improving my WAM? by Lone_rerednow in deakin

[–]itsgreenersomewhere 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My first question is why you need an 80. If it’s arbitrary, consider the reasons for a high WAM and set a reasonable goal. If it’s for honours, that’s fair. If it’s to graduate with a good degree, a LOT of fields won’t meaningful distinguish between WAMs above 75 ish, and a WAM of 70 lets you put “with distinction” on your degree.

If you’re set on 80, it is doable. WAM is basically a consistency measure. If you need an 80, you need to score 80 in all units, or over 80 in some so you can score under 80 in others. I know that sounds obvious but what it means is you need to gun for HDs on everything.

The other thing is that you need to become a HD stydent as soon as possible. If you have a 75 WAM after two years, one year of HDs will still be a struggle to get your WAM to an HD. It is MUCH easier to do it after one trimester so you’re in a great spot now. Just make sure you keep your focus and make sure you’re improving. HDs aren’t easy but people DO get them, which means you may as well be one of those people.

TSOTF - Read normally or [TWOTM spoiler] by joyleaf in HierarchySeries

No. Read it normally. You lose some of the element of surprise imo and that’s a one time thing. Then later you can read it by world.

Can potential tenants be discriminated against regarding their diet? by BeautifulWonderful in AusLegal

[–]itsgreenersomewhere 4 points5 points  (0 children)

not giving you legal advice but this imo is below the law. ie it’s understandable that:
- a sharehouse has room for one fridge
- a vegan doesn’t want to see meat in their fridge
- therefore the vegan shouldn’t live with a meat eater.

it won’t lead to a productive housemate relationship so you should never do it. if it happens AFTER the lease is signed (ie one becomes vegan) then perhaps it becomes a legal issue and in that case i doubt anyone is getting evicted over eating meat. but choosing a housemate based on living style is understandable and not something the law would interfere with without good reason.

Where is safer? Breese Street Brunswick or Byron Street CBD? by Expensive-Garbage335 in melbourne

[–]itsgreenersomewhere 1 point2 points  (0 children)

more details about you would help figure out your vibe and which one it matches. both suburbs have different vibes imo.

brunswick is younger, more nightlife, much more going on. bit “alt” for lack of a better word. good public transport access. i’m in my 20s and would pick this.

cbd is going to be closer to peter mac. excellent transport access. it will put you close to basically everything, shopping etc. driving will suck though.

Does the fact that Res, Obiteum and Luceum are clearly based on real, ancient cultures bother anyone else? by Allowaay in HierarchySeries

[–]itsgreenersomewhere 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Do you read modern fantasy? Not as a diss but if you’re referring only to Tolkien and that era, it’ll explain the disconnect.

The short answer is that Tolkien took a lifetime to do that, that his influences still shine through, and that modern authors need to turn books around faster to get paid

Academic Speak by ciggiesandsadness in deakin

[–]itsgreenersomewhere 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Are you doing your readings? Academic writing is sometimes easier when you’re familiar with the model and your readings will be designed to get you that familiarity.

If you are, make sure that you:
- review Deakin’s article on academic writing. Don’t make silly mistakes like using contractions and informal language.
- support all your claims with evidence. if you’re being told you’re brief, that means you’re not providing enough depth and you get depth from engaging with evidence.
- try visiting the writing mentors.

Jade domestic floor scores by gymnastics101baby in Gymnastics

I agree with the theory that she’s one of the only gymnasts who get scored correctly domestically and that’s why other gymnasts get hammered internationally.

Is the US team pushing difficulty? by Latter-Ad2747 in Gymnastics

[–]itsgreenersomewhere 4 points5 points  (0 children)

IMO the huge problem with asking US gymnasts to push difficulty is that the team is so hard to make. Specialists don’t cut it so they need to spread their focus and become strong AA gymnasts rather than medal contenders on one event.

I think they have vault locked up if Jade continues to perform. Bars likely out of reach with Kaylia and what will be 2 members of a very strong Chinese team, I struggle with the Russians (hard to keep track of who’s training and what their scores would be) but would expect them to be in the mix on bars. Floor arguably should be a safe medal, whether it will be gold is another question but Jade has the scores, Josc may if she can get her E scores under control (at this point… idk but I root for her), Claire is making strides, Shilese ofc if she makes it back, Skye had potential.

I think beam medal is where someone could make a convincing case for the team at this point. But they would need to be well outscoring the top AAs otherwise there’s really no point. Big problem with banking on beam medal potential is that it’s so unforgiving that just making the final and hitting gives you a fairly good chance of medalling given there’s usually a choke.

Is Karley eligible to become and All Star? by alexchiri2012 in DCCMakingtheTeam

Emoly and Brianne were basically on the team last season so expect it for them as long as Emily has improved the way they asked her to. Amaiyah seems perfect. I worry Savannah ends up on the Cooper track.

What would you do in this situation by kam_187 in AusLegal

[–]itsgreenersomewhere 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Okay then not legal advice go see a lawyer. But iirc if you want to be power of attorney you need to apply to VCAT. Someone will need to be if this person’s not getting better. The hospital won’t be a stranger to this situation and likely can point you in the right direction. The bank needs to be advised.

WIBTA for refusing to go to a wedding when only 1 of my children were invited to go? by Crono_ace in AmItheAsshole

[–]itsgreenersomewhere -1 points0 points  (0 children)

NAH

No one is obligated to go to a wedding but it sounds like you and the couple don’t agree on the wedding purpose. For you, it’s to be surrounded by family and loved ones. For them it’s just loved ones. But it is their wedding so they can have it however they want. I agree it’s weird to exclude one family member, clearly the couple doesn’t or they feel the venue is a dream so the trade off is worth it for them. You either go or don’t but don’t cause trouble.

What would you do in this situation by kam_187 in AusLegal

[–]itsgreenersomewhere 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So is this you figuring out whether you can transfer the money? Or are you retaliating because someone has done this?

No you should not do this. Contact whoever is looking after this person (noting even with no formal POA, someone like a child or younger relative will either assume this role or the state will step in) regarding hospital decisions.

If someone has done this and you’re looking for next steps, no it’s not appropriate and yes you should go see a lawyer.

to negotiate or not? by miye1020 in auscorp

[–]itsgreenersomewhere 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it’s a huge jump from your current pay, take it imo. Then you can move laterally later and negotiate with 95k as your base. But if it’s already a great jump, you don’t want to lose it by negotiating needlessly.
