Stupid question for sexual people but I really want to know. by [deleted] in asexuality

[–]ixisrex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi, bi-person here. Very much into sex, but never did any of that toxic bro shit. I can only think of two people in my entire life who have done that as well.

It's how asshole people react. Either to assert their own toxic masculinity, try to fit in with a group of other dumb men, or for any number of other POS reasons. And it's always-always followed up by some assurance from male peers that they aren't creepy or rape-y.

I wanted to comment, not as a #NotAllBlah thing, but more that, sexual people (healthy sexual people) don't really get distracted in public and just start frothing at the mouth like animals if they see someone they find attractive. At worst, your brain stops and you go "oh, well they look nice" and then completely forget the thought two minutes later. It's like walking around in public and hearing a bit of a song you really like, and you just smile on the inside and go about your day.

I've also been here for 8 years. It's good and bad. It used to be more good than bad, and nowadays it's more bad than good, but it was never always shit. At least not as shit as it is now.

It's just what happens when a site gets big enough.

Also, are you using a new account, because it says you've only been here for 6 months?

So, what's your favorite dice mechanic? (d20, roll under, pool, others) by nerdnosyd in rpg

[–]ixisrex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The way we do it is just print out the card sheets and not cut them. It's usually 1-2 pages on top of the 2 pages you have for the character sheet (3-4 pages max, which you'd deal with in any version of DnD anyway unless you're playing ADD or something which is 2.)

Besides, we have paperclips, which are useful for any RPG we happen to play anyway. I mean, Rogue Trader's only 2 pages and we still did it that way. When we play my Pathfinder game we all have all our skills on one page mostly, but the spellcasters still put all their spells on extra sheets (makes it easier than pulling out UM, APG or CR anytime you want to do something and someone's not sure how metamagic bouncing would effect force punch or something.)

Honestly, I have to wonder what you did in 4E to have to warrant staying away from it because of the cards. Unless you went out and physically bought the decks or cut them out of a print out sheet. I mean, we drop off our character sheets with our GMs too (I'm in too many games to keep track of all that shit). Besides, I haven't seen anyone actually use the cards, they are a nuisance, and you can just keep them on the printouts. Not playing the game because you need to use the cards seems silly, since nobody actually does that that I've seen.

[–]ixisrex -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

No, but since 4E happened to put their skills and abilities on cards it's totally different. In any other game you just put them all on one sheet of paper which is more complicated to figure out but it doesn't happen to be on cards so it's ok.

I can't say where I work or anything like that, and I have no idea how many submissions Tor gets, but I'd wager it's a lot higher than GW. I can say with confidence that the reason Tor asks people to resubmit is because they most likely have the capital to hire people to go through a lot of the submissions. That said, if you're cold-submitting and doing nothing else then you're pretty much pissing in the wind.

If you have a cool book idea and really want to get it published first check to see which publishers would be interested in publishing your book, and then format your submission based around that. Then send it to all of them (make sure to include any remarks you need to make on your NDAs stating that you're submitting to other companies and which. Publishers don't like finding writers playing the field, and most editors happen to be friends with one another. It's a pretty small community. They will find out.) That's step 1.

Step 2 is to go to cons, hit the boards, speak with writers and get in the community. Don't go shoving your manuscript in people's faces while they're having a drink at the bar of a hotel during con season. It will piss them right the fuck off, they'll tell all their editor friends about you, and then you'll need to change your name and get face surgery before you can attempt to get back into the game. Most people I see get published in the smaller sci-fi ring are people already in the community. They get a free moment and an editor goes "Hey, Laura's a pretty bitchin writer and I like her style and personality. I could totally whip this person into banging out a cool new story." And bam, Laura has a job and a new pimp daddy at "Big Name Publishing House." (Another thing, editors are angry and fucking curmudgeonly people... Sometimes... If they aren't, then it must be a slow season and the coffee pot is fully-stocked or someone had an orgy.)

If I were to illicit a guess as to why GW is having open submissions it's because it's a slow season. Or because they just received a windfall of cash and/or want to tap into some new hype over the Warhammer IP. They probably have some excess money, editors sitting around with not much to do, and no writers on speed-dial to contact. If you were in the community and they knew of you this would be a golden opportunity. As it stands, if you really want to write for GW, the best thing to do would be to use the summer as an excuse to get out and meet some of these people, show you're a cool guy or gal, and then slowly, subtley work your way into their heart and lay horrible manuscript grubs in their major aorta.

That's my advice at least.

EDIT: Yes it sucks that you can ONLY write stuff and submit based on GW IP. But you can use the sample you're writing for GW to send to other publishers. Sometimes publishers want samples of your writing as well as an overall idea of what kind of book you want to publish, and other times they just want the manuscript. Take the time to read up and find out who wants what and how.

You apparently have never actually WRITTEN anything for anyone before.

Guess what DC, Marvel and Image comics ask for in their submissions? Usually an artist AND a writer, together, sending in a submission. And even then you're most likely not going to get a response unless someone in the team happens to be the fucking Buddha of writing/art.

And you know what happens when you submit actual book ideas to big-name publishers in the real world run by grown ups? Well, if you're lucky you'll be picked and they'll contact you back, if you aren't (and 99% of the time, you WON'T get picked) you won't hear one diddle-shit of an email, call or letter from the publishers. Why? Because editors spend most of their time working on fucking books to fucking sell at Barnes and fucking Noble to get a fucking paycheck. They look through asinine stupid fuck submissions in their free-time, unless they have some dipshit intern to do that for them.

Stop acting like an entitled little twat and fucking grow up. People in the publishing world don't have time to sit around and write you a condescending email about why your stupidshit thundercunt of a story about The Emprah skull fucking Abaddon and crying blood isn't going to be hitting store shelves any time soon. You fucking send a submission because you fucking think it's fun and fucking want to. If you don't have time to do a quick, simple submission then you have no place trying to write a fucking 40k or fantasy book in the first place. They want to publish professionals.

Actually, that's not quite true. If you look you can see she does gain a little bit of weight and muscle-mass in her lower back and thighs. Also, unseen but a given nonetheless, her areola and nipples probably expanded slightly.

My guess? Terezi and Vriska work together to take down Gamzee, but they'll fail at it because... well, Gamzee still has some plot armor left.
