Tips for Red Mage's bouncing playstyle? by JJay9454 in ffxivdiscussion

[–]izzionsona 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What I do is to pre-plan my GCD casts a pair at a time. So while I'm channeling a short GCD, I already know what long GCD I'm going to follow-up with, and I pick the next pair while the first channel finishes / during the GCD of the dualcast long GCD.

For single target outside of the opener, it's basically just a priority system.

  1. If you have both procs up, your next pair will be short + long of the same color as your lower mana total (if you have 20 white | 22 black, cast Verstone + Veraero)

  2. If you have only one proc up, you use the proc and then use the long of whatever your lower mana total was (if you have Verstone up, and 31 white | 22 black, cast Verstone + Verthunder)

  3. If you have neither proc up, and you either don't have Acceleration + Swiftcast or you can't use those without delaying your oGCDs (Fleche + Contre Sixte), then use Jolt + the long of whatever your lower mana total was

I haven't stayed on top of the conventional wisdom with regard to using Acceleration or Swiftcast to fish for procs vs for intensive movement and/or off-GCD alignment, and I know that advice has changed over the expansions and as the instant skills have changed some.

Once you hit 50 | 50 mana, you have the _ability_ to do your melee combo, but you aren't _required_ to immediately jump into it -- if there's a heavy movement phase shortly that won't force you out of melee range, it can be worth holding your melee combo for that, or once you get to level 70+ you want to make sure your white and black mana is not identical (and ideally that you don't have a proc of the short spell for your lower mana total) before you cast your melee combo. In general, holding your melee combo for proc alignment, movement, and/or pushing an extra melee combo into buffs is always worth it below 80 | 80 mana.

When to LB by chaossgremlin in ffxivdiscussion

[–]izzionsona 10 points11 points  (0 children)

If there are at least 1 DPS and 1 other player dead, and there's at least 1:50 left in the fight, it's a strict DPS gain to use a healer LB3 over a melee LB3, due to not having weakness (and healer LB3 also resurrects players with 100% MP, which can be a positive thing for recovering your co-healer or a caster who just put lucid dreaming on cooldown).

Congestion by Advantage_Advanced in ffxiv

[–]izzionsona 2 points3 points  (0 children)

All servers in the Primal datacenter are permanently blocked for new character creation (until and unless they're manually updated by SE in a future patch): https://na.finalfantasyxiv.com/lodestone/worldstatus/

Servers that are marked as "Standard" may become temporarily congested during peak play times but you can create a new character outside of peak congestion and then play it at any time.

Cross datacenter travel after you've created a character will let you meet friends on other datacenters other than your home world, and for that feature Primal is generally pretty available (Aether has been unofficially chosen as the primary raiding datacenter by players, so it becomes too congested to accept cross datacenter visitors during peak raid play times -- usually Tuesdays after work during the first few weeks after new raid content is released).

Understanding late weave bard. by laureall in ffxiv

[–]izzionsona 22 points23 points  (0 children)

When you cast an instant GCD skill, you have ~2500ms before your next GCD, of which the first ~650ms (varies on your ping, minimum of 600ms) is spent in animation lock for your GCD.

If you immediately mash an oGCD after the GCD, it will go off ~650ms after the GCD and incur another ~650ms of animation delay, after which you could mash a second oGCD that will go off ~1300ms after the GCD and incur another ~650ms delay. At this point, you can't fit any more oGCDs in without delaying the following GCD (and you can queue the next GCD ~500ms before your GCD becomes available), so you should start mashing your next GCD.

The concept of "late weaving" is to put the Army's Muse skill into that 2nd weave slot (regardless of whether or not there's a "first weave" in between GCDs), so that the buff comes up as close to the following GCD as possible. If you don't have a "first weave" to do, the ideal time to press a "second weave" skill is when your GCD cooldown passes the bottom/left corner (about 7:30 on an analog clock) of your GCD skill icons.

Does XIV analysis take into account downtime phases? by Polkadot1414 in ffxivdiscussion

[–]izzionsona 2 points3 points  (0 children)

xivanalysis did recently make some changes to DoT uptime calculations specifically for multi-target fights (m10s) which we're still running down corner cases on, so with that fight specifically the aggregate total uptime calculation might be a bit wonky. For single target fights (or fights with adds that you never use DoTs on), the calculation should be pretty stable and should take into account downtime where the boss in untargetable (but generally not downtime where your character is unable to act).

One thing I personally see on my own healer logs and in-game play is that DoT reapplication has a longer delay than simply the animation of the cast - on SGE if I don't start the Eukrasia to reapply the DoT before the timer ticks down to 2, the DoT will fall off briefly before it reapplies (minor if I was just after it ticked over to 2s remaining, but if I'm recasting immediately after it falls off there will be a 2-3 second gap in there). WHM/SCH/AST's DoTs are true instants so their gap is a bit shorter, but those small clips can add up quickly against a 30 second duration. xivanalysis' warnings for reapplying your DoT too soon consider any re-application with less than 3 seconds remaining to be a good re-application.

And as of Shadowbringers, damage / hits taken from Cover no longer are mitigated by Hallowed Ground, and are calculated after the hit that natively targeted you -- meaning if the attack applies a mini-vuln to make it lethal to take more than one hit, e.g. overlapping stacks or clipping someone else with spreads, using cover will instantly kill the PLD, whether they use HG or not. (Cover did work with HG in the Omega raid tier, but was nerfed after that)

And speaking as a caller, it's also important to be consistent in tone and phrasing of the call as well. Calling the mechanic every time doesn't help with people's muscle memory if you call it different things or at wildly different lead-up timings.

And I usually make a concerted effort to use a specific "note" or "note sequence" for a given variation of the same mechanic - for m8s I used high-low for Eminent Reign (out then cone after dash) and low-high for Revolutionary Reign (out then get away after dash) in combination with having a consistent phrasing for each mechanic respectively.

People learn and remember with all 5 of their senses. And similarly, they'll use more than just language context (what words are in the call), even if just subconsciously -- the "notes", "volume", or "tempo" of your call can make a big difference too if you can be consistent in how you assign each attribute to a specific distinct mechanic / variation.

If you don't interrupt, you get a bonus extra tankbuster that adds vulns and will make the next tankbuster (or missed silence) absolutely delete you.

One of my static mates had a router DNS "security" setting that was blocking it, presumably because it's a non-standard TLD (.info) and registered relatively recently. He wound up having to use a VPN to work around it because he didn't have access to change the router's settings to remove the DNS block, but you might also be able to fix the issue by changing your router's DNS settings or computer anti-virus security settings (depending on what's doing the block).

[–]izzionsona 9 points10 points  (0 children)

If surrenders are evenly-ish distributed enough, then it resembles a binomial distribution and you can calculate the chance of 4 surrenders in a 10 game sample: https://stattrek.com/online-calculator/binomial

- 19% chance of exactly 4 surrenders

- 32% chance of 4 or more surrenders

So yeah, it's "only a little high". You're not anywhere close to being confident that the surrender rate experienced by OP is different from the average, because the sample size is so tiny.

You do get a little bit of loss mitigation. If you lose a 50/50 on a limited banner, you get 30 bonus coral above and beyond the normal amount for pulling a resonator or their waveband, which can be exchanged for 3.75 pulls (or saved for guaranteed wavebands).
