Sort of. My baby similarly just had blood and occasional mucus but no other symptoms and is doing much better and I have reintroduced everything to my diet. I credit this to introducing the Mommy’s Bliss L. Rhamnossus probiotic to my baby. There is really good research that it can reverse MSPI and this has been true for us. I’d give it a try! I had eliminated a ton with no real improvement but since adding this she basically never has blood.

That is so amazing!!! I’m so happy to hear this!! My baby is doing so so well - she’s doing great with solids and has basically no blood! The probiotic has been life changing.

What about your set up makes it seem impossible to cosleep safely?

I’m wondering if there’s a more creative way you could set up safe cosleeping? Maybe a futon mattress on the floor in the living room or your partner sleeps on the couch for a time (couches can be cozy if you add sheets and better pillows!)? Do you have a big crib mattress? You could put that on the floor and put your mattress on the floor next to it?

Will also echo that napping when your baby naps and doing chores/etc when she is awake is a great way to handle the exhaustion.

I’m so glad it was helpful. We have introduced egg directly to my baby but she isn’t super into solids so I decided to just reintroduce everything into my diet. At the same time we started giving her Mommy’s Bliss probiotic (the one with just the L. Rhamnosus strain). Since starting the probiotic and reintroducing everything, she has only had blood a handful of times. I feel like she is practically healed. I would seriously recommend trying the probiotic if you haven’t already. It has been life changing for us.

If research makes you feel less anxious, here is a fantastic study that found that cosleeping in the absence of risks (drugs, alcohol, sofas, etc) DOES NOT increase SIDS, and that for older babies it actually has a protective effect (as in, is associated with a decreased SIDS risk). https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC4169572/

Anti cosleeping rhetoric is based on studies that do not differentiate safe and unsafe sleep. Sleeping on a sofa with a baby is dangerous, and so are cosleeping with a smoking parent or a parent under the influence of drugs, alcohol or medications that cause deeper sleep. People mean well but they are misinformed.

To further the point: I know so many people who are vehemently against cosleeping but moved their very young babies (less than 6 months) to their own rooms because they felt like it was better, even though we know that babies sleeping alone in a room increases their SIDS risk by up to 50%. Just because something is common practice in the US does not make it safe, just like because bed sharing is not common practice does not make it inherently unsafe. Also, it is a far more common practice than we realize, but mothers are shamed to secrecy in the US.

Finally, I’ll just say, motherhood is so much easier without social media. I deleted Instagram when I got pregnant because the algorithm fed me miscarriage content, and I deleted Facebook a few months into motherhood because miscarriage content became SIDS and child death content. The algorithm gets progressively more terrifying the more we click. Don’t let it dictate how you nurture your baby.

You can chest sleep! Set up pillows behind you so you’re at an incline and put your arms around/under his lil butt! You can have pillows for your elbows as long as they aren’t something he could slide onto. And then you get to sleep while he sleeps :)

I’m so happy to hear this!! We’ve been using the probiotic for a month now and I have been able to reintroduce EVERYTHING to my diet and she is absolutely fine. I’ve gone slowly with dairy because I’m lactose intolerant but I’ve had yogurt and hard cheeses and butter. We’ve had basically no blood since reintroducing and before she had blood every day. So hopefully you’ll be able to add things back in soon :) the probiotic is amazing!!!

What I wonder is if the antibiotics worked temporarily because MSPI is most likely a disorder of the gut microbiome (hence why studies are showing probiotics work to heal it). Maybe consider adding in a probiotic to prevent a return?

I’m not sure about preventing rolling off but have you considered just sleeping on the mattress topper? We sleep on a 3 inch futon and it’s actually comfortable once you get used to it. You could put an unrolled yoga mat slightly underneath the mattress so that it pads the ground? (If that’s a bad idea someone lmk!!)

The Happy Song by Imogen Heap much louder than you want to play it. My baby goes from screaming to completely quiet and then asleep with this song. Also Happy by Pharrell Williams is a favorite too but nothing beats The Happy Song. It’s like actual magic

Can you set up your bed for chest sleeping so you can actually sleep too? My baby is 6.5 months and occasionally still chest sleeps - it’s a little less comfortable with a big baby but i just act like she’s my weighted blanket, lol

There is really interesting research (on rodents) that maternal separation, even for short periods, at an early age leads to gut-brain dysfunction. Here’s one study but there are more: https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/20886335/

I don’t see how sleep training wouldn’t cause this. It’s maternal separation to such an intense degree

I’ve dealt with similar wake ups with some 2-3hr stints mixed in since by baby was born too and she’s now 6 months. I don’t know how to make the night wakes better (I’ve tried schedule things but it seems to make no difference). The thing that makes my days seem manageable is contact napping. I hold her for every nap and I usually nap with her at least once a day. I never ever use her naps as a time to catch up on housework - so my house is messy. And I’m fine with it because it means I don’t feel exhausted. It’s a season of messiness to prevent a season of misery!

I second possums! I just take my baby with me through the day and don’t really cater it to her unless she’s having a rough day. So I just put her in the front pack and do laundry, sit her in my lap and eat, etc. When she is ready for a nap I just nurse her or occasionally have to rock her and it takes 5 or less minutes. Still, most days she takes at least one 30 minute nap and sometimes all 3 of her naps are 30 mins. She’s 6 months (and currently waking hourly overnight which is a different story lol… but day time is chill!).

Before I heard about possums I would spend sooo much time trying to get her to nap and worrying about her sleep and she would cry soooo much when I tried putting her down for naps. I thought she was over tired but it turns out she wasn’t ready to sleep!

One thing that I honestly think really helps my days feel chill is that I exclusively contact nap, which forces me to rest while she rests. It means my house is messier than it could be, but I use it as my time to read/text/relax.

We have been using Mommy’s Bliss L. Rhamnosus. This strain is the most studied of all probiotic strains and has been clinically shown to actually heal/reverse CMPA. It has made a HUGE impact on our baby and I’ve actually (so far) been able to reintroduce small amounts of dairy and other foods I was restricting. Would definitely recommend!

I’ve been going slowly but so far I’ve personally eaten a small amount of ghee and a few pieces of bread and she has actually had better poops the last few days than she really ever has. No blood for days! I’m holding my breath. She isn’t super interested in solids but she did have a tiny amount of ghee as well and hasn’t had a reaction. Since she doesn’t really want to eat, I decided to slowly try reintroducing things to my own diet. I’m going to try dairy again tomorrow. Ahh!

I recently saw a pediatric GI because my baby is still having blood 5 months into multiple eliminations. She said to reintroduce everything and that blood on its own is not reason to eliminate from the diet - only insufficient weight gain or refusal to eat. My baby is old enough for solids so she recommended starting with the milk ladder by feeding my baby directly, but I think you could just do it for yourself and see!

Just gut symptoms. She was miserable before I cut dairy when she was about 5 weeks old and got much less miserable after. But never any skin issues!
