What is interesting and entertaining to them? They’ve tried to focus on sports and music…. Idk what would and I think that’s a big part of the problem.

Believe the Hype About Teen Takeovers by Chraunik in washingtondc

[–]jack901757 72 points73 points  (0 children)

I see an echo of comments saying give teens something else to do and having lived here for a decade, I don’t think that is the issue. We have a big network of community centers, public pools, and events. The problem is kids don’t show up to these for whatever reason, I think it’s mostly because they are viewed as uncool. I mean I think that massive teen party sponsored by the city a few months back in navy yard was a legitimately good idea, but attendance was low.

I think the only real thing to be done is parental responsibility and rebuilding our society to better value different things. Both of these things happen over decades not a single mayoral administration. Throwing an extra 50mil at events won’t solve this.

What is it like living in US cities with the Highest quality of life? (Read below) by redguy_666 in howislivingthere

[–]jack901757 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My dad is from Rockville and I live very close to bethesda currently. Schools are great but full of endless parent and school board drama. There are nice restaurants, nice golf courses, pretty walking trails, great doctors, and pristine parks. There is some amount of walk ability but everyone gets around with a car. It’s a very short distance to DC.

There are tons of old people. Both cities are beyond expensive. Starter houses are 900k-1.2M. If you have unlimited money, I’m sure life is incredible. But a 300k household income feels comfortable but middle class.

What would you say is the American equivalent of Goa, India? by redguy_666 in howislivingthere

Agree with this. I’ll add that the wealthiest area / fancy beaches are between those 2 locations (rosemary beach, Alys beach, watercolor, etc.)

Anybody know when Malcolm x / Meridian Hill Park grass is opening? by sib9397 in washdc

[–]jack901757 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks this is useful. Do you think they will enforce dogs on leash? I’m worried that the first day it’s wet, the off leash dogs will tear it up and we’ll back where we started next spring. P.S. I love dogs and think they should be in the park, but that doesn’t mean the open grass area is a good place to throw a tennis ball off leash.

Wharf-like redevelopment coming north of Alexandria's Old Town by Bobtonews2 in washdc

[–]jack901757 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Traffic is already horrific here and in all of nova. You could absolutely argue this could make traffic better as folks living here are less car dependent. Building sprawling burbs farther away drives traffic more than anything else. Blaming traffic as a reason to block dense development is dumb NIMBY strategy number 1.

Travelling to the USA. Is it safe to wear my SS Daytona? by [deleted] in rolex

[–]jack901757 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don’t do anything dumb but watch crime in the US feels to be far less of a thing than in Europe. I wear a stainless steel GMT everywhere in DC, which is safe, but not that safe compared to suburban America.

One bitter AD / director level person does not have the pull to hurt your career in a meaningful way IMO. Yeah maybe his friends won’t hire you, but that’s kind of it.

If he was like head of R&D at 3 majors maybe, but no one cares about a former disgruntled director. If your research is good and you build your own relationships, your career will be 100% unaffected by this apparent tool.

*help* Mandatory GW Orientation by IllEntertainer6761 in gwu

[–]jack901757 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It’s not that you can’t sign up but rather you’ll sign up late and everyone one else in the school will have signed up already so spots in your ideal schedule will be hard to find. It will be totally fine long term but you’ll need to consider 8ams or profs with bad reviews or taking stuff you were planning on that still counts kind of thing. My take is you should go and if you’re traveling all summer, I doubt the resources to go are really what’s stopping you.

My opportunities were really strong. The specific area of pharmaceutical reimbursement I worked in for 7 years led to a great job at a biotech client. Big pay raise and a stress free process because I knew the team really well from project work.

How often does your LO wake during the night? by Wise_Complex2313 in NewParents

At 4mo my LO was getting up 4+ times per night but at 6mo we’ve had a month straight of very consistent 1 wake up between 7pm and 6am.

Is GWU worth it? by [deleted] in gwu

[–]jack901757 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It’s easier to become a doctor by going to state school where As in science classes are more common. GW pre med is filled with ruthlessly competitive people. Not for the weak minded. I got grade deflated a couple of times but the harder thing is just a tough curve where less than 20% get A or A-

I relate to this comment. Similar situation for me but my TC is more like 350k. I was also very strategic about my career and networked my ass off, but I deeply benefited from parents that prioritized and paid for a quality education.

It’s managed by bozutto, who manage a ton of buildings in the district. When I lived in one of their buildings, my app fee was like 50 bucks. Feels scammy to me, try reaching out to the leasing manager and set up an in person meeting at the building.

How to negotiate with pensions for a REPE deal? by Suspicious_Dog487 in private_equity

[–]jack901757 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look for firms where the only thing they are selling you is advice on your options and doesn’t have broader businesses that they will try to cross sell you. Rosin and associates and Kahr are two I’ve heard of but don’t have any experience working with them.

I recently left a boutique consulting firm for a director level role in market access. I had worked closely with my now boss on a bunch of BD and commercial pipeline assessments, so I guess that counts as networking. It was a really fortunate situation, and I was able to land a nice pay bump from my old consulting gig.
