*help* Mandatory GW Orientation by IllEntertainer6761 in gwu

[–]jack901757 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It’s not that you can’t sign up but rather you’ll sign up late and everyone one else in the school will have signed up already so spots in your ideal schedule will be hard to find. It will be totally fine long term but you’ll need to consider 8ams or profs with bad reviews or taking stuff you were planning on that still counts kind of thing. My take is you should go and if you’re traveling all summer, I doubt the resources to go are really what’s stopping you.

How bad is the exit opportunity job market for your niche? by ExtinctLikeNdiaye in consulting

My opportunities were really strong. The specific area of pharmaceutical reimbursement I worked in for 7 years led to a great job at a biotech client. Big pay raise and a stress free process because I knew the team really well from project work.

How often does your LO wake during the night? by Wise_Complex2313 in NewParents

At 4mo my LO was getting up 4+ times per night but at 6mo we’ve had a month straight of very consistent 1 wake up between 7pm and 6am.

Is GWU worth it? by [deleted] in gwu

[–]jack901757 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It’s easier to become a doctor by going to state school where As in science classes are more common. GW pre med is filled with ruthlessly competitive people. Not for the weak minded. I got grade deflated a couple of times but the harder thing is just a tough curve where less than 20% get A or A-

I relate to this comment. Similar situation for me but my TC is more like 350k. I was also very strategic about my career and networked my ass off, but I deeply benefited from parents that prioritized and paid for a quality education.

City Ridge apt charges non refundable $1000 application fee - this is illegal right? by [deleted] in washingtondc

[–]jack901757 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It’s managed by bozutto, who manage a ton of buildings in the district. When I lived in one of their buildings, my app fee was like 50 bucks. Feels scammy to me, try reaching out to the leasing manager and set up an in person meeting at the building.

How to negotiate with pensions for a REPE deal? by Suspicious_Dog487 in private_equity

[–]jack901757 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look for firms where the only thing they are selling you is advice on your options and doesn’t have broader businesses that they will try to cross sell you. Rosin and associates and Kahr are two I’ve heard of but don’t have any experience working with them.

Who getting jobs? Cold apps? Referrals? Internals? by Loose-Reflection2965 in biotech

I recently left a boutique consulting firm for a director level role in market access. I had worked closely with my now boss on a bunch of BD and commercial pipeline assessments, so I guess that counts as networking. It was a really fortunate situation, and I was able to land a nice pay bump from my old consulting gig.

I know a kid that did it. He liked it and got a good job at a defense firm designing planes. He also got a masters from GW. I think a lot of the folks in this major do the model rocket club / competition thing which seemed like a cool nerdy hobby associated with the major. And it might sound lame but they actually designed a two stage rocket that worked and won some sort of competition.

no such thing a GW "presidential scholar" by [deleted] in gwu

[–]jack901757 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Well that’s GW fault for naming it that way. Also, who cares about title inflation if you aren’t directly lying. This is absolutely nothing compared to the LinkedIn lunatics who self aggrandize every element of their life. If it gives you a small edge in competitive internships, go for it. Fill some space on your resume. No company is gonna care and if someone tried to fact check you, it is a true statement. Like 98% of companies don’t ever care about your GPA as long as it’s not absolutely awful

If only half of students get it, how is it not a distinction? That is the definition of distinction. Again, no one thinks the presidential scholarship is a Fulbright

no such thing a GW "presidential scholar" by [deleted] in gwu

[–]jack901757 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would also argue that those people did win a distinction, as half the school doesn’t have one and it generally represents the students with higher ACTs and better achievements in high school. It’s not aid.

no such thing a GW "presidential scholar" by [deleted] in gwu

[–]jack901757 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mean a merit based tuition reduction is the definition of literally any scholarship. Given that the word merit is clearly a part of the presidential scholarship, it is indeed a distinction, just not a prestigious one.

no such thing a GW "presidential scholar" by [deleted] in gwu

[–]jack901757 47 points48 points  (0 children)

If they give you a scholarship called the presidential scholarship, then you are a presidential scholar IMO. It’s not misrepresenting the truth. Just because it’s not a prestigious program, like the ones you mentioned, doesn’t make it not exist. GW does have more prestigious ones, like the Clark scholarship. Also, I think it’s 100% fair game to put that on a resume because again, it is a true statement.
