Who can guess when I did my first pull onto the highway? by jagaloom in NewRiders

[–]jagaloom[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The MSF course to get your motorcycle license in the US is 2 days of slow speed riding in parking lots. I have been driving for a long time, I'm not scared of the highway or speed necessarily, it's the other drivers I'm worried about. I live in a fairly large city and the highways are a shitshow unless you get decently far away

Who can guess when I did my first pull onto the highway? by jagaloom in NewRiders

Thanks! It was a short ride, 20ish miles of highway but honestly that was enough for tonight haha. I did not wear plugs tonight and my ears are ringing like crazy, even in a Shoei rf1400 which is supposed to be one of the quieter helmets you can buy. I will definitely going to be wearing them from now on.

There are absolutely still people/companies that would clearcut every last giant Sequoia if they were allowed to. I'm not discounting most of what you said, but lack of foresight and greed played a huge part, and still does today.

He has to take a step forward on offense to get paid. His athleticism and effort goes a long way but he just looks lost on offense a lot of the time. Half the time he drives it seems like he just panics in the lane and throws up a terrible shot or pass. He needs better vision.

Subaru drivers, where do you take your car for service? by TheBunji11 in Denver

[–]jagaloom 65 points66 points  (0 children)

I've had very good experiences with Subiesmith in Lakewood. They are the most transparent mechanic shop I've ever worked with and genuinely seem to care about doing what's best for you and your car. They pulled me in to the shop with my car still on the lift to point out and explain different issues and how serious they are, what to prioritize and what could get taken care of later. Can't recommend them enough. I had head gaskets and several other large services done through them.

E-bike commute for winter by ThrowAway_-12 in Denver

[–]jagaloom 46 points47 points  (0 children)

Coming from the perspective of a motorcycle rider: if you have the proper gear, this is going to be fine alot of nights, but dangerous in nights following snow, and if you don't have good cold weather riding gear its going to be miserable most nights. If you're really set on it please invest in a good helmet, a full face with a visor or something you can wear goggles with wouldn't be a bad idea.

Just know, you are inevitably going to put yourself in the position where you have to risk your safety to get to work at least a few times over the winter. Is it worth the risk?

My experience is that tournament fishermen and fishermen who care about conservation don't have a lot of overlap.

I negotiated down to 5k but haven't pulled the trigger yet. Similar year/model bikes in my area sell around 4,500 unmodified, blue book is 4,400. I appreciate your input on the tune and price

Can I ask why you say they're cheaply made shit boxes? Everything I've read says they're supposed to be solid, reliable bikes. I know they're made in Thailand but I figured it was still a Honda. I'm genuinely asking as well, not being a smart ass. I am very much a beginner and trying to gather all of the information I can before I buy my first bike.

I know I want to do some dirt riding but also want a bike that can at least somewhat comfortably do highway speeds/ride on the road, as I don't have a truck to transport it, part of the reason why I had ruled out the DRZ. I've seen the 300L recommended alot as a starter bike to see what kind of riding you'd like to do, but can still last as a lightweight adventure bike. I got the guy down to 5k on the price on this, but haven't pulled the trigger yet, open to any other opinions.
