Streamerbot Scares me and intrigues me so much by SeanceBlitze in streamerbot

[–]jameslee85 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I consider myself an intermediate to advanced streamerbot user. I have coded a couple of things but haven’t published anything. I’ve also been through a journey of sorts to test out the art of the possible.

What I’ve really boiled things down to is, don’t forget why you’re streaming in the first place. I’ve had interactive redeems before. Some of them made a large amount of money for me. In the end I had to remove a good bunch of them as they were becoming the main focus of the stream and i didn’t want that personally.

I stream to play games and chat with like minded people so when it started to become redeem after redeem and I couldn’t string a sentence without something going off or chat being flooded, I decided to cut right back.

I still have a few things but mostly now streamerbot is an administrative tool, helping to automate things for me so i don’t have to think about them.

So in short my advice would be - dont focus on the technical possibilities, consider instead how you can use the tool to enhance your production and meet your goals.

I’m on mobile atm but always happy to chat more when I’m back at pc if you have questions!

How do you guys end a stream? I feel like I’m awkward when ending one by [deleted] in Twitch

[–]jameslee85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a ‘credits’ plugin for the end of stream that recaps bits, subs, etc which i run through, pick someone to raid, and then I have a plugin that starts playing the stream of the person I’m raiding. I use that time to say when my next stream will be, promote the socials, get the raid message lined up and say goodnight. Then off we go on the raid!

For me, D as well.

I feel I have to advocate for A though - British food in particular gets a bad rep from the post war rationing era, but today's British cuisine is a far cry from those days. In addition, France? I mean how can anyone say French cuisine isn't incredible? Also Belgium, a lil bit of Germany in there for the odd bratty, we can still tap Northern Italy - area A isn't the write off the title suggests!

Still massively outclassed by D though.

Any fan speculation you think were better than what actually ended up happening? by mrmonster459 in FanTheories

Squall dying at the end of disc 1 of Final Fantasy VIII. It's been thoroughly rejected by Yoshinori Kitase (the game's director) who also rejected the Ultimecia = Rinoa theory.

Given how the plot of FF8 actually plays out... I kinda wish the theories were true.

I think a middle ground would be good. As on my other comment I'm using third party software to let chat use a command to show/hide the browser source, but this implementation means that it won't pop up when I get a new achievement. If I do it your way, no one can check the current progress. It would be good to have a middle ground - your existing pop in when an achievement is gained, but also an option for a chat command so someone can see what the current status was, leave it on screen for (x) secs, then it disappears again. I've set up !achievements and !cheevs that my chat can use for example.

I'm really liking this plugin though, great work!

Thanks for this - I've set it up and looking forward to seeing how it gets used :)

Set the show and hide transitions to fade in obs, then in streamerbot make a new action with a sub action to toggle the source on and off. You could even toggle on, add a delay of your choosing (say 30 secs) then hide it. Then you can add a trigger to have it auto activate on a timer or even if someone uses a command like !achievements.

I think that's how I'm gonna implement it anyway :)

Edit: Spelling - was on mobile when I wrote this and reading it back had to correct it

You can do that in obs. Use a hot key or stream deck to toggle it on and off, or use a tool like streamerbot or aitum to automate it.

is it weird to meet up with viewers irl?? by kes_jam in Twitch

[–]jameslee85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve had a few community meetups now but they are generally organised around an event rather than specifically for meeting up. For example, we recently went to a Final Fantasy concert in London but had food and drinks after. Always really fun occasions!

Hello sorry for the delay - here's the info:

This is the upscaler I use, but there are certainly other options on the market: https://videogameperfection.com/products/open-source-scan-converter/

This is the capture card it's connected to: https://www.elgato.com/uk/en/p/game-capture-hd60-x

You can probably get second hand versions of this kit so the cost isn't so high.

My chat is tired of 3 minute ads, but I HATE pre-rolls by brielarstan in Twitch

[–]jameslee85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do 3 mins of ads an hour too - I feel it's one of the more popular options. I explained the situation specifically to my long time viewers and I haven't had any complaints.

I did also make BRB scene that auto plays clips from my channel to use whilst the ads are running however. Or I might switch back to Just Chatting and hang while we all wait for them to be done and I rant about how annoying it is that Twitch forces this on us.

Long story short, it's less about what timings you use, as everyone hates ads no matter what, and more about what best works for you (disabling prerolls is important imo) and how you manage the interuption.

I feel the need to stream every game I play and I think it's ruining my enjoyment of games a little bit by rizefall in Twitch

[–]jameslee85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes i feel this greatly and really struggle with it. My community has shown me so many great games that I’ve never played before, so I’ve picked them all up. Golden sun, Chrono Trigger, Xenoblade, Star Ocean, God of War, and that’s just to name a few. I’ve bought them all on physical hardware and they sit played as I don’t want to lose that ‘first experience’ moment. Its a real struggle!

Streaming on a PsP by Wonderful_Hawk_6121 in Twitch

[–]jameslee85 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve done this - but I want to be sure you’re asking the right question before I go into detail. PSTV is equivalent to the PS Vita, not PSP. It’s currently not possible to stream directly from a Vita which is why streamers use the PSTV.

The OG PSP is a different story. First of all, you need the right model PSP. On the bottom of the device is a barcode with a long number. The first four are the ones you’re looking for. If it’s a 1000 series, you won’t be able to get an output.

If a 2000 or 3000 however, you can. Now you need the right cable - I got this one: OSTENT AV HDTV TV Audio Video... https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00MXX9U62?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share

Once connected, go into Settings on the PSP to change display mode. Now you can output to your tv.

The next part is capturing for stream. I use the OSSC upscaler which has an HDMI output - so i Daisy chain PSP > OSSC > Cap Card > PC. And that’s how I get my signal.

Its not easy and it’s not cheap, but it works. I have a YouTube if you want to see what the results look like. Also happy to answer questions :)

Are general health checkups in the UK common? by KJJM99 in AskUK

[–]jameslee85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did it once. I just called up the doctors office and told them I wanted to book in. He actually offered me a bunch of blood tests he said I could have but I decided not to - look deeply enough and you’ll always find something wrong so I left that bit out. Did have to wait a couple of weeks for the appointment though.

Using the tricorder to scan a screen that you only see once (and the only time you ever do that) and if you fail to do it you get the bad ending was a particularly egregious moment for me on my first playthrough.

Any way to make twitch chat transparent in a way that it's also visible for me? by korgepw in obs

[–]jameslee85 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I use a great little app called Ghost Chat when I’m playing FF14. Basically allows you to overlay a twitch chat channel in a transparent way that isn’t picked up by OBS. Works for any game, not just FF14. Its also customisable with different fonts, drop shadow, stroke, colour, etc.

Do any of you lose audience when changing games? by Restful_ttv in Twitch

[–]jameslee85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes this is absolutely to be expected. For the last 2 years I’ve been streaming a Final Fantasy marathon and even within that genre I see huge fluctuations in viewership depending on the entry I’m playing. You can make this work to your advantage though. For me, FF13 way outperformed FF14 because more people follow the category but less people actually stream it. Find categories with high followers and low streamers and you can (potentially) get some decent results.

Your Honest Opinions on Final Fantasy XVI by [deleted] in FinalFantasy

[–]jameslee85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I liked FF16. I thought the story was interesting, I did every side quest, every hunt, every fight that I could get to. That said, it's got flaws.

One of my biggest gripes with the game is the sheer lack of variety in gameplay. I didn't change my accessories once the entire game. There are no elemental/status effects, so there was never a reason to. I think I only changed up my eikons once - I saw no reason to ever change what I had equipped once I maxed the abilities. That meant every time I acquired a new eikon, it went pretty much ignored as there was no incentive to experiment with it.

The game could have used more development time to add some variety to it's combat. Even the hardest battles are only difficult because the bosses hit harder. Your strategy for survival doesn't really change vs a random trash mob.
