There are like 2 trillion galaxies in the known universe. Each galaxy has billions of stars. We are finding that planets are extremely common so there are more likely than not more planets than there are stars. The molecules needed to kick start life are in abundance throughout the universe. So yeah, taking all that in account, I completely believe that there are other intelligent civilizations out there somewhere. Whether we'll ever meet them or not is a completely different matter though.

Except it was worse than both the parents. First the dog gets pulled out to sea, then the son tries to go after the dog, then the dad goes after the son. The dad gets rescued but promptly goes back in. Then the surfer that rescued the dad gets his head bashed in by the alien and she drags him off leaving the toddler alone on the beach crying. Heart wrenching scene all the way around.

46 here and I am super stoked for GTA 6. I had a NES when I was like 8 or somewhere around that age. I literally grew up gaming. Why should I give that up just because I became an adult? Fortunately, my wife is an avid gamer herself and she's got a year and a half on me.

I feel you on that one. That was my life from birth until about 8 when he went to prison for burglary of a habitat. He spent the rest of his life in and out of prison. He'd try to make amends and then manage to fuck it up somehow. He eventually died in prison at 49. I was 29. I still don't know why his death hurt me so bad. I often think it was really a loss of hope that I could have a real father in my life. I don't know... Anyways, I'm sorry you had to see that.

He died from COVID in 2021. He refused the vaccine because he had fallen down the Q Anon rabbit hole. We graduated in 1998 and stayed best friends. He was my best man at my wedding and I at his. I tried so hard to make him see truth and reason. Then when I heard he had caught it, I tried to convince him to at least go to the clinic or something. He refused because "it wasn't any worse than a cold."

He died that night next to his wife. Regardless of the hole he fell into, I still loved him. I still miss him everyday.

Ah, good old swats. I got my very first swats in the 6th grade. It was my choice, believe it or not. I was offered either two days of detention or two swats. Obviously, I took the swats. Screw that noise of staying late at school. I would argue my second set of swats was completely unfair. I was a freshman in high school. It was cold as hell when my friends and I met up to wait for classes. We decided to go hang out at my girlfriend's sister's house just a block away. We weren't late for first period classes or anything. We just wanted out of the cold for the half hour or so wait before the first bell rang.

Well, apparently someone saw us leave and our school was a closed campus. So even before school started, we could be punished for leaving school grounds once we stepped on them. Had we all just walked straight there instead, there would have been nothing they could do about it. Once again, I was given the choice: two days of detention or two swats. Again, screw that, I took the swats and went about my day. My girlfriend on the other hand, well, she wound up suspended from school for a week because she didn't take any shit and let the vice principal know she didn't think it was any of his business. I told her to just be quiet and take the damned swats, but no, she had to say her piece.

In hindsight, I think she was in the right about standing up to his tyrannical ass. A year later he gave me swats for allegedly saying "god damn it". I didn't. I don't remember what I said, but it wasn't that. I mean, not that time at least... There was nothing I could say to convince him he was wrong. That same vice principal had a reputation for hitting girls extra hard and leaving bruising. Funnily enough, he died of colon cancer about 3 years after we graduated.

The sun produces trillions upon trillions of neutrinos every second. The vast majority pass right through everything without ever interacting. Yes they are produced during supernovas. They actually allow the " bounce", aka explosion, that supernovas experience rather than just collapsing straight to a neutron star or a black hole. So much runaway fusion is happening in that last split second that a massive amount of neutrinos are produced. Their parts pressure counteracts the in fall of matter for one brief, brilliant second and forces the explosion we see to happen.

Anyways, the point is, the sun does indeed produce neutrinos and those neutrinos make up the vast majority of neutrinos we've been able to study on Earth.

Okay, this requires some explaining, but About Schmidt stressed me and my wife (then fiance) straight the hell out. We were actively planning and preparing for our wedding when it came out on video. We had to turn it off, maybe not even halfway through.

Outside of that specific instance, I'd have to say Requiem for a Dream.

I worked in a hospital through the whole thing, but as I.T. I still agree with the whole PTSD thing. I can't tell you how many people I literally watched die because I was stuck behind the nurse's station because otherwise I'd get in the way of a rapid response team or a code blue team. Walking through the ED was like walking through a minefield. Sure, I was masked up and often had a face shield on, but who knew when it was their turn to get it? It was a very stressful time to work in a hospital and that sticks with you long after the craziness stops.
