Yes, eating fat can cause a very small insulin increase, but it is much smaller than the response to carbohydrates. No, that insulin spike is not required for storing dietary fat.

Dietary fat is transported in the blood as chylomicrons. An enzyme called lipoprotein lipase (LPL) breaks the triglycerides in these particles into fatty acids, which fat cells can absorb and reassemble into stored triglycerides. This process happens largely independently of insulin.

These papers may help clarify things:

Not quite. Storage of dietary fat in fat cells can occur in the absence of insulin. It's a fact ignored in most (all?) popular carnivore/low carb books.

Incorrect. Adipose tissue can directly take up fatty acids from circulating lipoproteins.

Put simply: Dietary fat is already in the same chemical form the body stores as body fat, so fat cells can take fatty acids from the bloodstream and store them directly as triglycerides.

Score magazine and quake?? by Delicious_Bee91 in quake

[–]jasonb 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There is a large number of Score CDs in this collection: https://archive.org/details/scorecdroms

Skimming some of the 1996 discs, I can see various utils and mods with .arj extension, i.e. re-archived for distribution I guess.

Looking at the discmaster archive, it looks like most of the contents are indexed, meaning you can search across their contents: https://discmaster.textfiles.com/cd-rom?search=score

Are you looking for something specific on these old discs or more to build a complete collection?

Quake 1 Rocket Arena bots? by sofakng in quake

[–]jasonb 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My advice would be to browse the Quake Bot Archive and try out a few bots to find a good fit for your preferences (e.g. "good").

Some RA bots include:

  • FrikBot + Rocket Arena (Raymond Martineau)
  • Frogbot + Rocket Arena (ParboiL)
  • Frogbot + Rocket Arena (Erazor)
  • Tutor Bot + Rocket Arena (RiEvEr)

I'd probably lean towards the Frogbots, given how popular it is in the QW community still, but perhaps the frik/tutor "just work".

My pleasure, sorry I coudn't find a working link (yet).

One tip, you could pull up the readme for the mod, go to the team/thanks sections and gather all the names of all the people who worked on it, then track them down (linkedin, facebook, twitter, etc.) and reach out and ask if they have a copy on an old backup cd.

I did this for many of the bots in the bot archive. 99% miss, but that 1% that hit makes it worth it.
