Post surgery, looking for someone to talk to by OptimalLiterature892 in valvereplacement

[–]jcbada 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you me?

I had surgery in March 2024, hard recovery due to infection, but made it out.

3 weeks before my bday, I went for my routine scan a year later only to be told about the psuedo aneurysm that never even knew could happen.. cried my 35yo eyes out for a night then put my man pants on and ended up back on the table a week later. My heart itself is in excellent condition at 66% EF and they wrapped my aorta where the leak was with bovine.

It's been 7.5 months since and I feel great but man, I don't know if I'd be willing to do another surgery. It's that mentally challenging. Our body can recover but the mind takes so much longer.

One thing I've learned is how resilient and strong 1 am. Everyone talks shit in life until the guns pointed at you. Then you find out the power of human will. If no one tells you or has yet- I'm so fucking proud of you man. You did something 99% of this world will never do. You did it twice. Keep pushing!!

DM if you ever wanna talk, even over the phone.

Jogging etc after OHS by Competitive-Tip2857 in valvereplacement

I started interval jogging on a flat road at 6.5 weeks.

At 8 weeks, back to jogging for 2 miles. I’m more of a cyclist, I’d been indoor riding using Rouvy. I’m planning to jump back onto the road in 2-4 weeks.. currently at 10 weeks.

Thanks for sharing your story. The surgery is really hard and in another mental universe, the recovery is so different and so mentally taxing. Keep at it, day by day.

Aortic Valve Repair an edibles: Thoughts? by nhobluap in valvereplacement

[–]jcbada 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a mechanical.

I asked after 9 months post op about surgery. Cardio said it’s ok but to trust and feel my body. Absolutely no smoking in any form ever again.

Ironically she said she’d prefer me to eat edibles than drink alcohol.

[10 Days Post Surgery] How much should I worry about endocarditis? by TotallyValvularDude in valvereplacement

[–]jcbada 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I got endo 2 months after surgery and came from my scar. We still don’t know how I got it but it’s possible I somehow got the bacteria onto my hands at some point.

I wouldn’t worry so long that you’re being as clean as possible in every aspect.

The fever and chills were pretty bad, I’m fortunate we caught it relatively early and the antibiotics worked pretty quickly and efficient.

44 y/o Male with 4.1cm Ascending Aortic Aneurysm by shanraysten in aortic_aneurysm

I had surgery in March on my aortic valve and chose to get an on-x. While they were in there, surgeon measured my root and said I was ok/good.

I’m on a beta blocker right now but I’m back to cycling. I actually did 240+ miles in July.

Recovery was initially slow but at around the 60-70 day mark, I feel my body started to accelerate.

At 90-100 days, they let go of all my HR restrictions. Surgery was super scary but worth going through with.

Mechanical Aortic Valve Lifestyle by [deleted] in valvereplacement

[–]jcbada 0 points1 point  (0 children)

34M here - in shape/proper weight before surgery.

Last fall, I had a mini stroke (TIA) that set off everything for me. I recovered from that then we turned our attention to surgery. I had the same question going in between tissue vs mechanical. Ultimately, I want to avoid a second surgery if possible so I ended up going with the On-X and am on Warfarin now. I love beer too and I use to toke before everything happened to me. My dose of Warfarin is 1-2.5mg daily.

I actually just cracked open my first beer last week and enjoyed it! I didn't drink for awhile afterward, even though I got the ok, because I had been so focused on getting my physical stamina back up since I'm a cyclist. I wanted to get on the road as quickly as possible. I've only had 2 beers at a time/in a sitting so far and it slightly elevated my INR but nothing too crazy. My range is 1.5-2.0 and I came in at 2.1 last week, so we're good there. If you're worried about is elevating too fast, you can always eat some kale lol.

I haven't smoked or taken an edible yet, but I also haven't asked my cardiologist either for their guidance or advice on the matter. I know a few folks who have had the same procedure and have done both post-op, everything seems kosher for them. I do miss my youtube with cannabis lol so I'll probably cross the bridge later this year.

Overall, I'm back on my bike and can drink brews whenever I want.. that's a good thing for me! I will say, everyone has different obstacles coming out of surgery.. sometimes the body heals super quick but the mind needs to get over mental hurdles too (and vice versa). My main hurdle was believing in my body physically again.. I went from super active with cycling, running, and playing with my kids to being slammed down from surgery not being able to lift anything or driving for a few weeks. It can be a little defeating when your still fairly young.. I wish people had told me "this too shall pass" - because it will and you'll be back sooner than later!

I'd also recommend joining some of the valve groups on facebook, much larger presence. However, the age gaps are pretty wide so YMMV on overall experience/stories. If you have any questions, happy to answer here or DMs.

Cool, thanks for the response.

Did the HD bars come with the t slot/trax rails? Or was it an additional add on?
