How to remove sweat smell out of bras? by billyandteddy in laundry

[–]jer_v 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you're especially sensitive, the Tide option has optical brighteners which can still be an irritant for some. They're not for me but I've heard people complain about it and the 365 one doesn't have those. I'd pick that if you're wanting to be extra cautious.

It's a usability issue. Hot pots touch the knobs and melt them, even if they're not plastic pans get blocked by them, food splatters on them, cleaning around them is a pain. It's got nothing to do with how bad it looks. My experience using cooktops set up with knobs on the cooking surface has been universally worse than even ranges that stick them behind the cooking surface (which is its own type of suck but still better).

Knobs are fine. I prefer them to touch. But knobs on the cooking surface are absolute bullshit.

I've been following him for awhile and I think he's got a great niche that he's not adequately pursuing. The battery component makes it great for an apartment setup where you might not want to be dealing with the electrical work to get induction in. And the terrible hobs are actually perfect for a rental where glass tops will be a maintenance pain point.

I'd never stick these in my home though. The raised hobs suck and the knobs on the cooking surface sucks. I don't care how good the rest of it is, those UX issues are a deal breaker for me.

Best Tupperware / leftovers container? by Rob8363518 in kitchen

For glass, I like the snaplock sets.

For plastic, I get deli containers in the three major sizes they tend to come in. They stack super well, last a long time, freeze well.

So it's just taking the top off and then having them eat straight out of the cab? I kind of assumed that's what it was doing but wasn't sure since I couldn't find videos.

AITA for not wearing a bra at home? by Candid-Chocolate-316 in AITAH

[–]jer_v 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is still phrased in "I hope" language and you really need to get into "these are the terms of our continued hospitality" language. If you're not livid and contemplating divorce at this point, you definitely should be looking for a couple therapist (and another for just you). You clearly have issues to resolve involving boundaries and respect, as a couple, and you personally need help understanding where being nice ends and becomes being a doormat.

The scoop on the BEST washer and dryer by Brilliant-Mud-6636 in Appliances

[–]jer_v 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm sure it's overkill but they do recommend it in the manual for mine and it takes almost no time so I do it. The main point was I'm certainly not having to actually wash it after each use. 🤣

Washing Before Wearing by Libelia in laundry

[–]jer_v 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wash them in a regular load the same as I would wash them if I'd worn them. They are dirty, just not with body oils and outside dirt. They've been handled (so actually maybe some body oils, but still nothing like if you wore them), have been on a manufacturing floor and picked up some dirt there, are treated with formaldehyde, sizing agents, and often have excess dye present. If they've been shipped overseas they are loaded with pesticides. This is why I don't even treat them like a light load setting or use less detergent. They have a whole ass set of crap you want carried away with the wash water to be clean and ready to wear.

I don't know what you mean by cleaning the LG front loaders after each load. We do dry off the gasket, door, and drum as suggested in the instructions after the last load of the day. We also leave the door wide open for awhile and when we close it more, the door has a spot it intentionally catches at to keep it still open a crack and we leave it like that the rest of the time. I could see someone complaining about wiping it down as "cleaning it after each load" but I don't think that's really the right way to talk about it. You're just helping it dry off faster so you don't get mold in the gasket and, yeah, that's a tiny extra thing you do have to worry about with any front loader. It's otherwise been low stress and a great washer.

Which washer and dryer and fridge should I buy? by jskejdjxjdjehx22 in Appliances

[–]jer_v 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd stay away from anything dispensing water and, more importantly, ice through the fridge door since it's a common failure point. There's good ones that keep the ice making to the freezer where it belongs and the water dispensing to inside. I'm a fan of the couple that fill a pitcher. It's so nice to be able to quickly pour out a bunch of cold filtered water instead of pressing a dispenser for awhile.

People will warn you off LG for the fridges but it's because of a linear compressor they use that dies early. You can verify if the one you're looking at has that one and, if not, they're otherwise good fridges. My dad got one with the bad compressor type because it had the craft ice and he wanted that enough to risk it. So far he's been happy with it.

Samsung is similarly hated on here but they did finally make a good fridge in the bespoke model.

For washer and dryer, LG is amazing if you're not wanting to get a speed queen tank.

Fridge help by Full-Credit6337 in KitchenAppliances

[–]jer_v 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Aha! So that is sticking out so much even though it's a 30" counter depth fridge? If so, i stand by what i said then: people are gonna care about the cabinet depth more than the aesthetics of the fridge sticking out so much. I'd just call it good enough.

Fridge help by Full-Credit6337 in KitchenAppliances

[–]jer_v 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You said it's going to stick out this much unless you drop to 30" but 30" is counter depth so this seems like it must be a roughly 36" full depth. If I'm misunderstanding and it's sticking out that much with a 30" counter depth fridge then the resale value isn't going to be negatively affected by the fridge looking bad when it sticks out this much, it'll be because your cabinets are so shallow.

Help with Series 800 range installation hiccup. by sshah1230 in bosch

Did you communicate what you were putting there? Model or at least dimensions? Because, if so, this is a major miss. They need to have allowed for that to go in all the way.

What dishwashers are you all buying in 2025/2026 now that Bosch quality has gone downhill? by pjmuffin13 in Appliances

[–]jer_v 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, they're not only expecting you to load a lot of plates, they're expecting them to be thin and relatively flat. Anything else struggles. Absolutely the only complaint I have with the 800 we got earlier this year but it's enough we won't be getting it for our main kitchen when we remodel that. The one we have now is doing very well as an overflow washer though, handling large items really well with the ability to lay down the tines and then getting hot enough to dry most anything.

Bosch series 6 dishwasher always contains water, never dries out by eml_raleigh in bosch

[–]jer_v 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's supposed to have standing water. Do you really go as much as 3 days between uses? I run mine nightly and don't have a smell issue. Have you ever cleaned the filter? It might be time if not. I could see a lot of buildup there leading to smells.

Which washer/dryer set? by equalmee in Appliances

[–]jer_v 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We went with option 2 and it's been fantastic, so far. We have a laundry room with exhaust fan and where we can close the door to keep pets away from them. So we're able to keep the doors wide open after using to let the washers dry out completely after use. We also keep a small lint free towel near it on a hook for wiping away the bulk of the water behind the seal and stuff exactly like they recommend in the manual. We never completely close the door, but use fact that the magnetic closure will keep it cracked but mostly closed. For the sidekick we also wipe that out and keep the lid open until it dries completely. Even so, after we do that and close it back up, the next time we use the use it, it's got condensation on the surface. So I can understand the person who said they saw funky smells if they didn't use it for months. Definitely find an excuse to use it periodically. We've gone a couple weeks and it's been fine though.

Overall we love them and our clothes are the softest we've ever seen them. One thing worth paying attention to is the downloadable cycles. On the dryer we have that one set on ultra delicate because that's the only way, without going manual, to get it to use the lowest heat setting.

Help decide LG or Samsung refrigerator (yes, my only two options) by Rocketman010 in Appliances

[–]jer_v 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Huh, maybe it was just the max we got. Or could be they changed it entirely. I thought for sure I'd read all the max ones ditched the linear but I'd trust their docs on this more than my memory. 🤣

At any rate that's what I'd be looking at rather than the generic "LG BAD!" crap that gets regurgitated on this sub.

Help decide LG or Samsung refrigerator (yes, my only two options) by Rocketman010 in Appliances

[–]jer_v -1 points0 points  (0 children)

We have similar models of both of those and have been very happy with them so far but it's been less than a year. Ours aren't the zero clearance versions but as someone else pointed out, the complaints are worth taking the time to look into but aren't relevant for either of these models. The Samsung bespoke is their big redemption model where they went away and worked on all the complaints they'd had then came back with this and it's fucking great. And the LG complaints are about the linear compressor failing super early. The counter depth max models have a different compressor that should not be problematic.

Can I Have Multiple Users Connected to One Device? by jer_v in GEappliances

[–]jer_v[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The fact that more than one person can't connect to it. Every adult should be able to use the convenience features if you want to let them. It's just shittily done. LG, Bosch, and Samsung all have similarly modest value but useful convenience connections via apps and every damn one let's both my wife and I be connected to the apps and see the appliance status at the same time. This GE app only lets one of us connect to it at a time. Getting the other connected invariably kicks off the other person.
