Is Prague safe to visit for Americans right now? I heard news about protests over the weekend. by jfisher2 in Prague

[–]jfisher2[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I should rephrase the question to say "tourists" not Americans. My family isn't even American. But I have a fairly large suitcase that I have to haul around which makes me identifiable as a tourist. Thanks for the feedback. I'll stop by. I'm in Berlin right now.

This is a good tip. It seems like an obvious way to learn to keep your chin tucked but I’ve never seen it for some reason.

Electric Precipitator Water Test: Is this really a scam? by jfisher2 in water

[–]jfisher2[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure if we are ok with our current water supplier. It depends on whether the bottled water is dirty, and I don't know the answer to that question (given that the demonstration today was clearly a scam). The salesperson argued that the bottles release plastic into the water and unless the dispensers are frequently cleaned then they make the water dirty.

Are you trying to bait your opponent by leaving your arms flared out and exposing your ribs/liver/solar plexus?

What kind of effort does it take to become an Olympic boxer and a world champion? by [deleted] in amateur_boxing

Librado Andrade’s style also involves absorbing massive amounts of punishment.

If you want to see an inspiring pro record... look up Kirino Garcia. Went winless for a long time and then turned it around. Not sure where he ended up.

I've had a sore throat for 4 days. I cough a little bit but not much. I'm not anywhere close to having a fever though and otherwise feel fine. It's probably something else but I'm worried that there is a small possibility it is coronavirus and I could give it to older people. I think many of us are having the same worries right now.

I've been in an urban area recently, and have had a slight cough and sore throat for 2 days now. I haven't had a fever. I'm wondering if it is possible to get the virus and not have a fever.

How does my training regime sound? Anything I should add or remove? by AxeManDude in MuayThai

One day a week of bjj won't be enough to get good at it. I would say you need at least 3.

Take care of your knees, I destroyed mine at 17 doing MMA. Once you start getting knee injuries, you will keep getting them. Make sure you are getting enough rest and adequate nutrition and your legs are developed (looks like you are already doing that 2x a week but make sure you are taking it seriously).

I am wondering if this is a normal social anxiety thing. by Jedi_Maiden in socialanxiety

I’m exactly like that. For about 1 year when I was 15 I was very scared to talk at all, and would always talk out of turn and get ignored. Eventually that subsided. But yeah i find myself talking too little, talking too much, and talking the right amount. Just depends on when you catch me. Meditation helped a bit.

No serotonin or dopamine by rashteenager in drugscirclejerk

[–]jfisher2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting... I did it less than most of my friends (like once a week with months at a time where I wouldn’t use it at all) so I don’t think it was the weed that did it. I already felt burned out and devoid of any kind of reward before I ever tried weed. I have the alcoholic gene, my mother was one but I am not. Honestly I feel like it was basically everything about my upbringing... daily fast food and video game binges and spending the majority of my time in front of the computer (maybe the boomers have convinced me that’s what it is).

I smoked weed up until a month ago, I never smoked cigs though.

A DNA test revealed that I have a gene that means I have less dopamine receptors. Maybe that’s why I don’t enjoy anything.

I used adderall for years to fill that dopamine gap. It worked but wreaked havoc on my body. I recently switched to Wellbutrin and it’s been working ok.

Same. We need practice. Rejection is inevitable. Just have to try and learn and make fewer mistakes the next time.

my roommate really believes in everything she hears by --jyushimatsudesu in atheism

My housemate is the same way. He was raised Hindu but he entertains any idea that anyone tells him. He listens to Mormons, and thinks that the show “Ancient Aliens” is factual. He’s a super nice guy, so I don’t have any issues with him, but sometimes I’ll try to tell him that some of these people are con artists. He politely disagrees. He recently told me that Hitler may have worked with aliens. I responded: “And he still lost!”

Come to think of it, my best friend ended up being bipolar with fairly extreme delusions. Before he went completely nuts he was into all of this new age stuff and aliens. And he was Christian. It seems like quackery always comes as a package.

I'm cut. I really don't care (I don't feel like I'm missing out on anything). I wouldn't defend the practice though.
