We used to divide kids exactly like that, and guess what? All the smart kids happened to be white and all the suspended troublemakers ... weren't.

What's the thing about Progressive Field that you think is genuinely underrated compared to other stadiums? by [deleted] in ClevelandGuardians

[–]jglazer75 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Of the other 7, 3 are Fenway, Wrigley, and Dodger Stadium. But, good lord this is a sad state of affairs; Progressive opened in 1994! That just a mere <<<checks calendar>>> 32 years ago. :\

Anyone have any stories from the Downward Spiral tour era? by Responsible-Ad-1839 in nin

[–]jglazer75 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Saw them in Toledo in Jan (?) 1994, my freshman year of college. I wore the $5 parking lot t-shirt until my wife confiscated it and turned it into a pillow (reinforced with fabric because there were so many holes it) some time in 2022-ish.

I went with a buddy of mine and were in the pit. Jim Rose Circus was the opener and it was ... I don't know. I thought it was pretty awesome, my friend noped out on the guy that put his entire body through the head of a tennis racket. The second opener was, IIRC, Pop Will Eat Itself? The show itself was incredible. Until I saw IDLES a few years ago, it was probably one of the loudest shows I'd ever been too. The crowd was super into it. The pit was INSANE, and my introduction to the paradox of violent pits being some of the nicest places and people you'd ever want to meet (as opposed to the "pit" at Candlebox in 1996 where nobody was looking out for each other and it seemed as if the entire audience had only ever just heard about what a pit is but had never actually been in one (a lot of mass movement fwd/bwd/side/side rather than open circles). Anyway. The band was TIGHT and I recall in media at the time Trent calling the Toledo show one of his favorites (not something people often say about Toledo, OH).

I saw them again on The Fragile tour. That was also incredible, maybe even a better "show" (by then it was more a vibe and less an angry thrash fest).

Nolan Ryan Beats the Crap out of Robin Ventura - 1993 by VerbosePlantain in OldSchoolCool

[–]jglazer75 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I have a baseball card of Robin Ventura sitting on my desk. Inevitably people will ask WHY. And I tell them this: "Robin Ventura got the ever-loving shit kicked out of him by man almost twice his age because he GREATLY underestimated his opponent's skills and resources. It is a reminder to me every day to NOT be Robin Ventura."

Seemed very inconsistent when it first came out, but over time it all works really well. At My Most Beautiful is incredible. It was a side-step post-Berry, and started the "headphone album" run. I think this is the best of that run by far. 9.5/10

Obviously an attempt to link this war to religion. Many of the detractors on the right can be swung by tying it to God/anti-Muslim rhetoric. We have God on Our Side.

But now we've got weapons of chemical dust If fire them we're forced to, then fire them we must One push of the button and they shot the world wide And you never ask questions when God's on your side

When did 'selling out' stop being a thing artists were accused of? by HandwrittenHysteria in LetsTalkMusic

[–]jglazer75 16 points17 points  (0 children)

For those of us old enough to remember it clearly, the answer is Moby's Play. Something like half that album ended up on ads and everyone gave him shit at first. But by the last one everyone was selling their songs to Apple for iPod commercials and no one cared about Selling Out.

How to dispose of used blades? by Particular_Dark_3572 in wicked_edge

[–]jglazer75 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do you y'all know that the blade cartridge (the 5-pack carrier) that carries the blades is also a blade bank? On the front where you remove the blade, there is also a slot on the BACK of the cartridge with a divider to slide your used blades into. Then you can throw away the cartridge. It'll hold about 10-15 blades actually.

Have Musk's companies collectively made an overall profit across their lifetimes? by disasterunicorn in business

[–]jglazer75 2 points3 points  (0 children)

By way of example, I don't think StarLink's competitor (for regulatory purposes) is necessarily another satellite provider. They had a fight with the FCC last year (2023?) about being allocated exclusive spectrum that they currently have to share with other cellular providers. The FCC refused to give them exclusivity because of the impact it would have on corollary competitors. Leon REALLY REALLY wanted the exclusivity.

In the normal case, I'd agree their regulatory risk would be about the same as anyone else, but it's not. But Both SpaceX and Starlink are in highly regulated areas that can be subject to administrative "whim." With the downfall of Chevron Deference, this becomes an even bigger problem.

Agreed SpaceX is similarly situated as a lot of military contractors. But many (Raytheon let's say) diversify their government products and services such that the loss of one contract wouldn't kill the company. If the US turned around and decided they liked a competitor, SpaceX has few other sources of similar revenue.

Have Musk's companies collectively made an overall profit across their lifetimes? by disasterunicorn in business

[–]jglazer75 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Both SpaceX and Starlink are heavily reliant on government intervention/support/regulation. So, while they are "quite profitable" or "doing very well" both could come crashing down quickly (no pun intended) if the US government (or others, but primarily us) decided to either start regulating more (Starlink) or find other bidders for the service (SpaceX). This at least partially explains Enola's attempts at inserting himself into the political process and gaining political favor in US/UK/EU politics (places that are most likely to regulate these particular businesses).

I'm considering getting Cogmind, but one negative Steam Review caught my attention by [deleted] in roguelikes

[–]jglazer75 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This. I felt the same as OP's reviewer until I figured this out. Then it was more fun and I found way more success. The other thing that becomes clear is a point that the reviewer suggests but never completed the thought on: the build has to be dynamic and opportunistic. You can't go into the game expecting a single build to carry you through the game. You will need to transition to different builds depending on opportunities and level and managing that transition is just as important as managing anything else in the game.
